Good video, well made though I did miss spotting some changes from not being a local. Maybe highlight the area around a change so it is easier to spot? like, slightly different shade of white? Idea for a new video: Splitting the Northern line! Why has it been talked about on and off, what would be the point of doing so, what obstacles are there?
The main obstacle for splitting the Northern Line has been projected extreme overcrowding at Camden Town. www.londonreconnections.com/2015/second-time-lucky-rebuilding-camden-town-station/
Your a bit generous giving Silverlink the orange standard 😂 Only the North London from Richmond to North Woolwich featured on the tube map at the time as a plain white colour. The orange lines came in 2006 / 2007
Maybe in the next 10-20 years as the London tube map extends. As what I am thinking of. *Elizabeth Line from Shenfield and Abbey Wood to Heathrow Airport T4 & T5 and to Reading with some terminating at Gidea Park, Slough and/or Maidenhead *Northern Line extended to Battersea Power Station (and future extension to Clapham Junction) *Docklands Light Railway could extend to from Gallows Reach to Dagenham Dock and Barking Riverside (if that is possible) *Crossrail 2 to be built (including the Eastern branch to Leytonstone and Epping) *London Overground could take over the West Ealing-Greenford branch line and a new West London orbital to Neasden or West Hampstead Thameslink. And possible London Overground extension to East Croydon. Plus add New Bermondsey (Millwall) to the tube map and bring back Primrose Hill. With a new London Overground Stratford-Watford Junction service via Primrose Hill (and terminating at Willesden Junction or Harrow and Wealdstone) *Bakerloo Line to be extended from Elephant and Castle to Lewisham, Hayes via Catford Bridge and South Bromley or North Bromley *Future expansion of the Victoria Line from Brixton to Dulwich and Beckenham (if it goes to plan) *Add Thameslink to the tube map including Cambridge, Peterborough, Brighton, Gatwick Airport, Horsham, Littlehampton, Rainham, Gravesend and Dartford. Or the Central part of Thameslink between West Hampstead Thameslink/Alexandra Palace-East Croydon and Wimbledon/Sutton loop via St. Pancras International, Blackfriars and London Bridge
Also you missed out on Broad Street which is now office blocks that there used to be trains running from Broad Street station. Perhaps if the East London Line extension did include reopening the section to Broad Street with a triangle junction to the north of Broad Street. Then you catch a London Overground train from Broad Street to West Croydon, New Cross, Crystal Palace, Clapham Junction, Dalston Junction and Highbury & Islington much easier. As Broad Street was close to Liverpool Street and Moorgate within walking distance.
@@Andrewjg_89 Given the alignment of the tracks in the area, wouldn't it just be far more efficient (*cough* and cheaper *cough*) to just route your proposed East London Line modification into an expanded Liverpool Street Station?
I personally prefer the Victoria line going o Croydon via Herne hill , Dulwich, forest hill Cystal palace and Croydon. going to Beckenham will be a bit overslerserved and part of my extension is that you can change for the train to Beckenham from crystal palace
Brilliant series. Thanks Ashley! It really puts it all into context. The latest map seems very complicated. I think I'll just use an app to tell me the best way to get from point A to point B!
Your 3 videos are very nice, the best of other similar ones out there. Did you forget to put Imperial Wharf station and in Northen a little the Alexandra Palace line and the damaged line between the stations Mill Hill east - Edgware.
How about a history of the thameslink services. I remember the snow hill tunnel being reopened to passenger services in 1988 with the new service running on 3rd rail to farringdon where the power would be transferred to overhead - there would be a distinctive clunk and buzzing as the overhead power was connected. This would fit in with a crossrail video as it is an effective north-south crossrail link? (Should it be known as crossrail 0 as it precedes the Elizabeth line (crossrail 1) in joining services across London?)
