Suggestion made in the desire to help... be selective of who you get your history from. Like this one - if they are leaving important stuff out, they have a desire to tilt your thinking in their direction rather than provide actual information.
Look up American holocaust - residential schools and Indian insane asylums . So disgusting the history of establishing Satan's kingdom has been. Demons
Here we are in the 21st century, never before with such a levels of accumulated wisdom, collective connectivity, command over the elements and more manpower available to harvest new insights as never before ... And our primary concern is how to best not offend those who would rather ignore, rewrite and erase history entirely. Yet still keep all the conveniences and benefits.
Teresa, so are you saying that you do, or you don’t, approve this particular version of early American history? Im sorry but I can’t discern your point and hope you will clarify. The version appears to be accurate, at least as far as we can know 400 years later, and it’s clearly written by 2 rather progressive authors who intentionally omitted certain legends and “American myths.” These were invented over the centuries by people who had religious or political agendas inconsistent with facts. When you castigate people who would “ignore, erase or rewrite history” I’m wondering to whom you are referring. Yes it’s certainly the case that “real” history has been revised and rewritten countless times. That’s why credible, credentialed historians are involved in perpetual research and scholarship, trying to separate the grain from the chaff. It’s tedious work. So do you approve of this cleaner version of American history?. I hope so.
@@Jack-eo5fn it helps to read some things twice.... but to break it down, she's saying these are literally the best times we've ever had in recorded history but instead of utilizing our resources to improve life we pander to a lot of spoiled emotionally retarded brats who appreciate nothing and destroy everything in their path if you offend them, including destroying livelihoods and information they disagree with..... does that help? @Teresa Watson it's sad but this is usually what societies do just before they collapse into a dark age. The generations after WWII have been coddled and ignored, they don't actually know life or death struggle because there is literally a program and handout for every aspect of life - some people fail at all stages. It's awesome to get to study what you want when you've completed your formal education in your major. Studied engineering to make a living. Now I'm studying history and philosophy for enrichment.
Careful though.... Be sure to read more recent authors. Methods for historical research have changed over the 20th century. There's a good reason for that.
Listen ; people can make any material they want. Doesn’t make it true. Only trust in God & his word. Our public education is garbage , all of it. There is the truth always but one must put the time in and educate themselves. Follow God and you will have no problems with with wicked world.
I studied the civil war in my junior year of HS. Still today, 43 years later, my most favorite class. Still remember a great deal of the battles fought.❤️❤️❤️❤️🇺🇸
Thank you to all the volunteers. I really enjoy the different voices and American accents. This book is very interesting. Being English, repeatedly calling Scots Scotch is hilarious.
Finally!! History with substance! I’m so appreciative and thankful for all your dedication and hard work. Thank you so very much for sharing this video!

I'm in my late 70's and also enjoying a refresher course of the beginning of the USA and the struggles our ancestors went through to create this country. Know it is time to respect our country before we lose it.
You are losing it now. Babylon is falling . This is not your country . This is native land. You are probably European and brainwashed. Disgusting. An ongoing holocaust and genocide of the indigenous

Many comments say this puts them to sleep. I thought it was great to listen to while burning wood in my campfire. Watch the flames and ponder days past.
Well I don't whine I appreciate the people who took their time to bring great content and I study history over and over again and read the books don't let anyone bring you down to their level shine shine shine
But if progressive is a good way to learn, it's an even better way to live. Progress got rid of slavery, gave women the vote, took power from monarchs and gave it to the people. Progress ends wars and finds cures for crippling illnesses. Progress teaches children and cares for old folk. Progress brings justice, peace and prosperity.
@@cacambo589, it depends on what you're "progressing" towards. It can be towards good things like those you listed. The way it's used in politics usually means less and less freedom for the individual and more power and centralization of the government. Progressivism in its extreme is the Soviet Union and Mao's China.
@@cacambo589 The problem with that word is that the left has hijacked it. If by "progressive" you mean leftism, hatred for one's country (e.g., the sedition taught in universities by leftist professors like Noam Chomsky), and government getting bigger and bigger to where the individual becomes a "subject" and the government a monarchy, then no, "progressive" is an evil that should be avoided at all costs. It's for this reason that I don't like the word as the left has tried to use it. It has too positive a connotation when there's nothing positive about it at all unless you're part of the oppressive government.
@@LoliPolice-bf7mw do you have reading comprehension? Herstory refers to my minecraft game as being my story ...while listening to history. Leave it to an educated kid to miss a play on words.
Even the history teachers in our school's don't know enough to properly teach the children about are past not that kids really care about the history of the U.S. or the world. It really comes down to the parents. The education system isn't the only problem.
US History is hard to teach because it is so short. Some of the best studies in history are on the rise and fall of Nations/States. There are great stories there. US history before WWII can cover the rise of the US; the Rise & Fall of Slavery; and then it starts getting really subjective on what the focus should be outside of that, made worse by the fact many issues that we might want to teach using American history, can be taught (and maybe better taught) through histories from other countries. Lessons on tolerance, open social acceptance & open finance lessons from the 17c Dutch (and how these lessons allow that tiny state to stand up to the juggernaut of Louis XIV's France); Social responses to urbanization, and social unrest from Britain contrasted with France (one got rich & ruled the world; the other got the French Revolution); Problems & responses to industrialization (AKA: Marx, Liberalism, Romanticism, & child labor laws). Some of that might be found in US history, but I usually think Britain & Germany are good for teaching those lessons. Ok, I'll stop here. If anybody has any suggestions for what lessons should be addressed through Pre-WW2 US history, feel free to make suggestions.
Teach your children how to think not what to think. Our nation will be better for it. We can only regret our past. The future is a different thing. That's what history shows us.... our mistakes. A good education is what is needed. Truth and facts please. Thanks for the video.
Several comments on here about the reading pace. Under settings you can set the video/audio speed to .75.. I found it to be more to my liking, since I am also working while listening.

Yes,thank you for bringing the true constitution that will guide us to greener pastures to minds, and that Christ Jesus must be considered for our true president before any man on earth. ✝👏✝
The opening we hear while the reader is beginning this librivox book on the current style of teaching history is valid and vital information. Those who are claiming it puts them to sleep are not able to see the point. I would normally avoid calling them out, but my mom's voice in my ear saying, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all" compels me. Those complainers are not offering "constructive ctiticism." Their complaint can only be because they cannot think big. Too bad. This is a good style to impart history!
It has nothing to do with the book itself, but the quality of narration that helps us sleep. You are creating an issue that isn't there. We are thanking them for their help!
Thank you to everyone who participated in the narration. Great reference audio book to return to anytime for a refresh. I enjoyed listening while I paint. I hoped the narration would be just one little speed slower. Just one 😉 Many amongst us utilize the right side of the brain more than the left. Narrations overall are best absorbed at a slower pace Nevertheless ... it’s a great reference audio book 👍
Um, I believe you’re misconstruing their intent. Listening to this as we attempt to sleep is not an insult to the book. It’s how many of us who need to listen to things actually sleep. Otherwise our brains are too awake and thinking about shit. Haha I can see why people may think it’s implying the audiobook is boring.
Do they have to be awake for you to watch it? And why must people watch what you think they should? You're sounding like that dude who took over our government.
@@1kmannyyy836 dude, I am so sorry. I never got notifications that anyone liked my comment or commented on it. I actually don’t even remember making this comment LMAO. I was blessed by using history text books written by serious historians who themselves had lived and read read of history written by those who lived it. Being born into a family that believed in strong family ties and family traditions remained strong through generations. Having access to records of those merchants. Somewho had been KingsRepresentatives nd odd today keeping personal and family diaries was common as were saving correspondence with peers and their betters and some authors of poetry and agriculture with politiical thoughts.tual books, those kept family ancestors fresh in their identitus
My ancestor Anne Hutchins was mentioned in the first chapter, I bet there will be more because I know Elizabeth Frances Hutchins was arrested in the witch trials. We were the founders of Haverhill Massachusetts.
I homeschool my kiddo and have been super impressed with the curriculum. Each section now contains, at least a blurb and photo, a section on African American, Native American, and... wait for it... Women's plight or contribution. All missing from my entire experience with American History. I didn't even begin to get a true account of the complexity of the United States until college. I will never forget my Prof throwing in little phrases like "The syphilization of The New World", and "The circumcision of the Globe"... Brilliant! A far cry from making pilgrim buckles for our shoes and headbands with colorful construction paper feathers, to celebrate The First Thanksgiving. My son is now 16 and has 100% in History. So proud!
Rick, the only way to develop a full view of history is to understand historians and to educate ourselves using many many sources by many historians. I don't dismiss Beard's point of view; and as he was one of the most important historians ever, it's a good idea not to. However, history is not, as we would think- it's not a series of irrefutable facts. Events were, as they are now, seen differently through each eye. It behooves us to identify the eyes of the past, and try to understand the many points of view. And Beard was absolutely Progressive politically. It wasn't just a state of mind.
To me, the most fascinating aspect of the argument that the constitution was written by capitalists in response to agriculturalists is that the agriculturalists have now become the capitalists. It's not just Monsanto and that garbage (not to dismiss the whole issue); but that even farmers and big agri have been essentially paid off in order to accept capitalism in it's least restrictive form. The whole notion of corporate personhood becomes glaring when we learn about similar issues with proponents of the constitution when it was written! ESPECIALLY knowing how personal interest drove the writing of the document, not uniting states.
About a year-&-half ago, there was an article you might be interested in The Economist about investment funds that have started to pop up with a primary focus of buying under-utilized farm land in 3rd world countries, and investing their capital resources to bring in better land management, technology, and other efficiency investments (like mechanization) that would otherwise be out of reach of local farmers, and completely alien to other Wall Street bankers/investors.
@@cattycorner8 as a native American I 💯 percent agree with her. The truth is always harder to accept than fiction. after one shakes off the brainwashing that schooling, TV, music, and 'his'tory books did to our mindstate, and respectful thankfulness for the world wide web which gives us the opportunity to learn more from people who weren't allowed to share the real reasons why our forefathers did what they did and who they did it for (freemasonry), one can come to a conclusion that as long as we love life and help one another then we can be content.
The early history of Massachusetts is very interesting. I have some pods on youtube and facebook with much interesting and educational material. They accompany my book, In the Name of the Crown, on two republican generals who had signed the death warrant of King Charles the first of England.
I was surprised to hear that there were two new jerseys or let's just say there was an East Jersey and I West Jersey that actually had separate governors I believe
Romans conquered ‘’from the heathers of Scotland to the sands of Arabia ‘’ - WRONG. the Romans did not conquer Scotland. They tried but ended up building 2 walls ( The Antonine and then Hadrians ) to try to keep the wild ‘’painted people’’ the Picts out of england. The Romans did conquer england.
@@hollyhawk57 nah... Ever since the communists took over the public schools they're more interested in teaching kids how America is evil and racist rather than teaching useless things like readin', writin' and 'rithmetic.
I got a lot of homework but I work full time and animate as well, this will help me a lot while working I. Can listen. Maybe I should animate some of this history.
This preface or prelude speaks to the Greeks and Romans while forgetting about Genghis Khan, The Sumerians, Persians, and so many more to whom we owe our beginning's to everything.
I stopped listening to this audiobook after two minutes of the “preface” when the authors said they would not talk about military battles regarding American history. Also they would not talk about heroic people. Then what the fuck are they going to talk about that might be interesting to us? Thumbs down to this goddamn book and I haven’t even read one word of it. The preface is enough to let you know that this is water down history. Real history is made by important people who stand out or small groups of people who do. Let’s not amalgamate everything here as if it’s an ant colony
Yes to preclude so much and to speak to so little, reminds of the programing nonsense we were taught in compulsory public schools. But then, "History is nothing but lies agreed upon" Napoleon Bonaparte
This book was written in 1921. World history has been taught in the United States from a very Eurocentric perspective from the beginning, as has been geography. Note how Japan, Korea, China... are referred to as 'the Far East' even when geography is taught in California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska, Hawaii.
Hi, where is the full version? This vid begins by describe trading between the colonies and Britian, but I remember very distinctly this vid had an introduction.
You're correct, discovered this glitch with YT on a handful of videos, working to have this fixed and should be corrected within the next few hours, thank you for commenting.
American History starts with the Native Americans. Learn about them and who it was that came to America with African people in bondage. Learn about what the European white colonists did to the Native Americans and drove them to Indian Reservations. Learn about the slavery and forced free labor of the African people. Start there because that's where it all begins. Learn about how the African work force in picking cotton made the elites rich and the plantation owners. It wasn't the white man doing the work. It was the evil institution of slavery that the Europeans created in America and didn't want to stop even when It was abolished. There is so much more that has not been taught or written in the textbooks.
I do appreciate what they have done here. However, the long explanation at the beginning is exactly why many don’t want to hear history. I would like to learn though.
History is about past experiences & events that contain the progression & spread or regression & contraction of Populations, Philosophies, Politics, Religion, Science, Economics, Art, etc. All of this for the purpose of understanding who people are as groups & their dynamic or lack thereof between other groups. Stories are about obtaining an understanding of principles, both moral & logical, that our ancestors either did or did not learn, passing on their knowledge or ignorance for the betterment of detriment of their posterity & subjects. In all honesty....you should just teach people conspiracy theory throughout their lifetimes. That or teach them correct principles & let them govern themselves according to the Linear-Minimalist Standard, recognizing Creator Individuals as desirous to become & encourage others to also be. Everything else is in passing....but it is still important to know history in order to inspire & convict a person into coming up with a solution for the problems we face in the future. History in otherwords, is like a crystal-ball that functions like a puzzle-box, allowing us to see the future, but only if we understand how things work in ourselves, the world, & the universe.
My middle school history teacher use to spend his vacation time scouring county historical records (first hand accounts) of Indiana history. He was formally ask by the state to write a revised Indiana history book for formal education. His reply was "your" history or the truth? He was only willing to speak fact. The state declined.
We Americans don't have a long history like the British and, the European main land... American History stretches back to the 1500's.... The European history stretches back for many thousands of years.... Of course, the Native American people have been on the continent of both north and south America for something like 10 to 15 thousand years... Time flies and waits for no man.... A very pleasing podcast... Thanks for your excellent and professional job with the producers of this site 🌹....🇺🇸
