What do you guys think of the Abadie loading gate system?
@genericpersonx333
@genericpersonx333 3 года назад
12:30 Couple of reasons why you might want the gate to be steel instead of iron if it is actually steel: 1.) When working on small metal parts, a "stiffer" metal may be easier to machine because it won't flex so much when tools are interacting with it, too much flexing potentially causing warping or work-hardening or other effects that might compromise the integrity of the piece. The money spent making the steel is made up for by the reduced costs machining the steel because it doesn't have to be handled with the same care as iron might. 2.) Often overlooked when machining metal on an industrial scale, but you often have wastage from another part's fabrication that may just be the right size for a different part. A chunk of steel left over from something else could have been found to be convenient for the gate, and so they just used that instead of specifically creating iron stock. Not unlike cutting a smaller cookie of a different shape out of the dough left behind after you cut out a big cookie. Not saying these were the reasons, but they are possibilities that would fit with the limitations of the tooling and workers of the time.

These revolvers really make the ejector rod on the colt peacemaker seem like the most ingenious revolver design pre cylinder extractor
@Momo_Kawashima
@Momo_Kawashima 2 года назад
It's exactly the same thing, except instead of having a dumb rod on the side of the barrel all the time it's elegantly tucked in the middle of the cylinder
@taitonaito
@taitonaito Год назад
@@Momo_Kawashima idk really, having a dumb rod on the side of the barrel keeps the ejection ready to rock and roll instead of having to pull out an ejector rod from under the barrel. at least it sounds quicker to reach.
@Momo_Kawashima
@Momo_Kawashima Год назад
@@taitonaito having it hidden tho is less of a burden, with the thing tumoring on one side you can get it tangled in anything tangleable. Spending half an extra second to pivot it out won't make your reloading faster, if anything the fact that you can rotate the cylinder with each pull of the trigger is gonna make it faster than reloading an SAA

I picked up a 1913 version of this about a month ago. Not knowing anything about it, I fell back on my knowledge of contemporary revolvers on condition. The pawn shop had it priced at 500, I got it out the door for 350. As I researched it, I realized how much I liked it. This video has cemented that. Thank you for great research. Now I need to get the other versions.

Pistols were so militarily important to Italy that they survived 80 years and are still functional using Iron in the construction. I think they were more a feel good measure like bayonets in the modern era. It's cool to see that basic of a design that is reliable. Nice video.

Revolver actions are an interesting study. One thing that I have noticed is that it seems some ideas seem to pop up in different countries at or around the same time. One thing we do have to remember is arms were shown at the world's fair, where ideas were shown and shared. I think some people did what you are suggesting and either traveled around to different countries or spent time at the world's fair to get ideas to patten in a country where their wasn't a patten for that idea, then either updated it or just copied it and sold it as their idea. Also, rebounding hammers have been in long guns for awhile, wanting in in a hand gun to prevent primer drag is something they would want for sure.

Posting a way to fix a Bodeo revolver here, because I found a really weird problem they can run into that I managed to fix on mine. And there is nowhere else to post this. Bodeo revolvers have a rubber spacer in the hammer that pushes against the hammer nose. It can dry up and degrade over time. Just cut a piece off the sole of an old boot in about the same shape and put it in the hammer, it'll fix almost all jamming and trigger pull issues.

This gun in Italy is also well known for its appearance in the comic book Dylan Dog as the protagonist's gun... In London. Not even Dylan Dog can explain how it got there (he found it in a cave), but considering it still works well even when he has to have the ammo custom-made, it was a good choice.

I sorta wish that the patreon plug you put in the beginning was professionally animated... It's just such a lower quality graphic than the rest of those you use in the series. I love watching these, and honestly the bell icon irks me. Other than that this is top notch. (PS) I actually preferred the 2d animations of yore. Although they gave a less detailed idea of how the guns work, they really visually fit the series better.
