I’ve always wondered why the doors on old buildings are so high in some cases, especially in places like Rome when people were meant to be short back in the day.

If you look at country churches, the doorways were short! Grand buildings, large churches, cathedrals had grand doors because entrances to the House of God were special and accommodated Kings and rulers for coronations etc. Also scale.
