The way y’all teaching the apprentice is how it’s supposed to be done. Patient and with respect … no making fun or belittling a guy. The trade needs more of this
I think there could be a good middle ground I mean there’s no need to belittle people, but being razzed is just part of coming up no reason to be nasty while teaching.
Wazzup desertviking ya we do our best always watch where and how far our arms and elbows are when working high-voltage.. hope all is well in AZ and thanks for looking out for us…👍😎
I work for Rhode Island energy I’m in a 18 month lock in my office department but as soon as it’s up I’m going to overhead lines or underground whatever is open can’t wait
That fact that you guys do everything as far as pull cable ug and over head , the connections on both too i give it to u. My company we got different departments for everything
This is badass I applied for apprenticeship where i'm at locally can't wait to do this stuff. By the way what level is the apprentice? Just want to know how long it takes to get to be able to do this stuff as apprentice.
Wazzup dead from here at dwp you have to be at 3rd step in order to work on the primary 4.8kv , where are you at and with what company’s have you applied for the apprenticeship..
how do you know the power won't turn on and shock you? like I'm guessing they turn it off in some way or another but how are you sure you wont cause an arc or anything?
Wazzup Christyler that’s right what you see and we do most of the time work energized 4.8kv at any given time, we hardly ever work with opens unless we really have to for any special reason, that’s how we do our work here , and use rubber goods to protect us while in the primary.. thanks , what company do you work for and what location are you at…?? Thanks
Im at Coned in NYC. I work in the services department. We do everything that involves the secondary; pulling, rigging, troubleshooting, meters, in both 10% overhead and 90% underground applications. My goal is to get into the overhead, even if it's for another company in another state.
@jxblove1235 in Van Nest. I posted for it, waiting to see what happens. Supposedly, there only taking 6 guys for the overhead for the bronx/westchester.
My bad, didn’t see this response. Check PSEG for apprenticeship. It’s open right now, that’s where everyone is headed anyway! I just bounced, not too long ago once I got my HV title.
Man they used to make us wear are sleeves setting poles, even inside an underground transformer hell they made us wear gloves and sleeves setting a meter.
@@reesekramer5669 wazzup reesek I am in sunny California and in the city of Losangeles , and all our primary voltage is delta 4.8kv and stay safe over there ..
@@linemanundergroundworld4854 I've obviously got so much to learn as an apprentice lineman, but I'm on the other side of the country working for a Coop and there's talk of upgradingour primary voltage from 7200 to 19.9 wye due to load demands. I'm actually so confused how LA runs on 4.8kv with that tiny wire- looked like 6 solid copper? Smallest we even go on our system is 6 solid and those are on our oldest circuits that are slated to be rephased #4 ACSR. Maybe you guys just have tons of substations to distribute your load? Can't wrap my head around it lol. All I can say is obviously it works for LA, so obviously I just don't know enough about how all this shit works.
Where I live before the utility was bought out they had several trailer mounted transformers for temporary use such as this or if a back yard can failed they would set one up at the start of the line and feed into the secondary. Cant have that now, tweakers would be trying to steal it and the copper conductor. Now everything gets de energized until repairs are made, if you are out 8..12...16 hours, too bad...
Would be nice if my power company would come and remove their old pole that they left behind in my yard due to a similar issue. Getting ahold of Engineering shouldnt take months.
Wazzup Joe and that’s correct no sleeves But it’s probably coming soon but as of now not yet , what company do you work at that you guys are wearing them ..??
@@Joe-oo3xv Proper cover up and only working on one phase. You should never be reaching past a phase to work on another. In over 30 years never saw a pair of sleeves until storm chasing into the states. Never had an issue or saw an issue.
