the loss of Rees Mogg effectively ended any path forward for the Tories who honestly need to become much like the Co-Op party to labour, to reform unknown to the public and much larger than people realize but entirely bound to another party. and I'm not talking about a merger the tories remain separate just entirely subjugated to Farage and Reform future leaders, ideally that means the Tories only stand 121 candidates next election with the over 519 UK seats being represented by Reform who under such a system would likely return at least a minority reform government.

As a Brit who has been pushing for electoral reform for decades, the fact that there was a centralised, well organised campaign to use our flawed First Past The Post system to unseat formerly 'safe' Conservatives seats, has been brilliant. Ok, Labour only got 33% of the vote, which the Tories have attracted many times and still formed a government, but that was still a mainly progressive parties win, with Greens and the Libdems getting more seats than ever. It was the successful tactical voting employed by many voters to get the next best party from the previous election data into a viable position to win the seat. The electorate working together to bring about change has been so good, and shows what can be done with progressive thinking rather than the tribalism, which usually gives us the broken and corrupt status quo. France has just tried the same with their PR system, to thwart the right wing. It's such a sea change in working together for a better overall outcome. It is now very interesting to see the once entrenched Conservative Party and some of the nay sayers elsewhere, suddenly calling for a Proportional Representation system. Odd that! 😅😂😅

I'm generally satisfied personally with the action taken by the Lords. I did say "personally" however, and I think any action taken or not taken to reform the House of Lords will probably be politically motivated. I'm admitting I'm biased here, because I feel the Lords generally works as I want it, and the big parties probably feel the same, especially since they like stuffing it with all their corrupt buddies in a practise that seriously needs to be stopped for the good of all.

Simplified for our none UK observers. That's 412 seats out of 650 total in parliament. 412 seats held by one party and the remaining 238 are varyingly shared between 8+ other parties. It's officially called a "landslide majority".

@rifledpatriot Different areas have different populations. For example... a area in London still only gets one seat if they elect a MP, even though there maybe vastly more people in that area compared to other places. Stops large populated areas having more say than smaller populated areas. + There are also 10+ parties being voted for across the UK.
@babalonkie
@babalonkie 28 дней назад
@rifledpatriot Only one party can lead (unless there is no majority), The clearly Most voted party wins top job. All elected MP's however of ANY PARTY votes on behalf of their area and for/against the nations bills and policies. Every area has a elected MP, they vote for who it is but it can only be one (by majority voting). It's actually not that different from USA or the EU... but in USA only two parties ever have a vote on bills and policies... here it's multiple parties.

Surely that would've made the 400+ seats for Labour inconceiveable. But I suppose it doesn't matter if they're all fighting over the same voters when the big 2 tend to have more consistent followers. I couldn’t believe that is how it works in the UK when I saw CGP Grey s “Why the UK election results are the worst in history” clip (which I suppose is due for an upgrade now), it is so bad. The only thing FPTP works for is picking a single winner election (mayor/president) if you use a second round and even then people might vote in the first round with a less acceptable candidate if they think he has a better shot at making the second round than their preferred candidate, it fails completely at proportional representation though

What the system is literally doing is ignoring the voters of everyone except the winner in a constituency, which can lead to 70%-80% of the voters in a constituency being completely ignored, it is such a massive hindrance to smaller parties that I am amazed you guys still have them, would have expected you to go down the USA route of two party rule after using FPTP for so long. Haven’t you guys had a vote to switch to Alternative Vote but it was rejected due to misinformation a while ago? That would have been much better, even if still not the same as a straight proportional method. Sounds like Labour has the UK to themselves for the next 5 years, if this channel has taught me anything Starmer seems like a guy that can’t be trusted with literally anything as he constantly contradicts himself too but oh well, have fun UK people I guess

Get ready for a tax spree for anyone working full time and pensioners; and benefits being more lucrative than ever before.

We could use some taxes being fed into this economy already! Our services have gone to the dogs under those Tory criminals. I should know. My family’s among the people suffering as a result of it. People need to be investing in their country, especially the rich. It’s just too bad that, so far, Starmer’s too milquetoast to commit to his policies.

@@bodabodapasta1500When you say taxes, you mean you're willing to pay more tax, right? You sure you don't want to spend any of that on say, yourself or friends or relatives?

@@BlueAxeRacerFirst of all, I should give a bit of a disclaimer: I’m still in University, and don’t have a full time job YET. I have a part-time job but I’m nearing the end of my contract, and I still live with my parents and younger sibling for now due to my physical disability. As such I myself am not currently paying taxes, although my parents do, so I admit that I can’t speak from experience of having to pay them myself. I do receive money from the government to support me with the extra costs I face due to my disability, which considerably impacts my mobility. For instance, that money has paid for my motorised wheelchair, which has enabled me to travel around my university campus independently. Other disabled people in the UK can also receive these payments if they are eligible. As such I can vouch for the fact that benefits such as this, which are funded by taxes, have a positive impact, as this has played a significant part in allowing me to go to university at all. I can only assume it would be even more beneficial for those who are entirely wheelchair-bound. I also have an A in A-Level Business, A-Level Sociology, have studied Economics at university, and have been following politics for a couple of years now, for what that’s worth. In the long term, taxes ARE supposed to benefit you and the people you care about. Properly invested, they can ensure services like healthcare, education, or more needs-specific resources such as what disabled people like me may receive, are easily affordable and accessible for them. As previously alluded to, in the case of income tax, ideally those with the highest incomes would be paying the most taxes, but if the idea here is for tax to be proportional to income, the sacrifice should be minimal, especially since the money would allow the public sector to better provide for you, your family and friends. My family is relatively well off financially, but we’ve still had to deal with pretty poor service from the NHS and elsewhere as of late. Having discussed the issue of taxes in the past with my parents, we can at least agree that they are an important source of funding for the public sector and other social projects. On a local level, they may pay for repairs to a road, for instance. I will grant that politicians can make empty promises about how they will invest taxes if they do raise them. Heck, Starmer seems to like going back on his promises at the moment, but I would still prefer that those who can afford it pay more taxes, so that the money is at least available for the government to spend on the things they SAY they’re going to. I feel that still makes it more LIKELY they’ll follow through on a promise that requires funding to fulfill, than if they reduce taxes and thus reduce a useful source of finance for these projects. Again, I don’t yet know what it’s like to pay taxes, but my family and I recognise that public services haven’t performed well under the Tories, and I am relying on money from the government to support me with my daily living and mobility needs presented by my disability. If I was paying taxes, and the taxes I paid were invested wisely, I WOULD be willing to pay more, as it would make life easier for me and my family, and that’s not even getting into those in the working class who likely need more affordable and accessible services even more than we do. Edit: Oh, wow, sorry. I just saw my finished reply. I didn’t mean for this to turn into an essay.

@@BlueAxeRacer I am so confused. I’m not even saying anything aggressive or offensive and my replies get deleted each time I make one. I’m sorry about this. I tried to respond to your question but I guess RU-vid has a weird comment filter.
