This video compares the censorship made to Hitman 2: Silent Assassin in the v1.02 update (e.g. GameCube, Steam, HD Triogy and some other releases).

The removal all instances of the word "gurdwara" from dialogue.

As a Sikh, when my brother and I played this game as young kids (6yrs or so), we were just really excited our people were finally in a game LMAO. We'd repeat the phrases the Punjabi people said in the game, good times.

I notice a lot of Indian let's players on RU-vid play the game and they use the uncensored version. Here in United States no one really knows what a Sikh is so it's unlikely the fictional depictions would've incited any kind of real hatred. I played it when I was 11 on PS2 and all I thought about is how BS hard the game is (in the Punjab missions a lot of stuff is randomly placed each time you retry)

I thought that Smith's odd line "..these..these..trying to kill me!" was a result of his intoxication making him unable to speak properly. It makes sense now, I see that they edited the dialogue without having the voice actors come back and re-do their lines.

I have the Steam version. Just get the original files and drop them in the game folder. Problem solved/censors subverted.

Favourite part of this game after doing the stealthy approach was playing as straight shooter. I loved holding down the fire button on the M60 & then immediately switching to binoculars. It turned the M60 into a machine-gun-sniper rifle. Such a great game!

this game is probably my favourite third person shooter, on top of being one of my favourite stealth games - these guns are just so pleasnt to use, only Contracts did it in a simmilar way, later games sucked at shooting.

I mean you can kinda understand their concern. Although to be fair Christian cults are often used in gaming and no one cares. You also forgot to mention that in the holy temple Sikhs were massacred in 1984, causing them anger.

@penois E balls I agree with you and disagree respectfully with the comment above. I understand that Christianity is depicted in violent games and as a Sikh man I think it shouldn’t be. It’s not about Sikhism or Christianity it’s about the fact that the “Gurdwara” or “church” or any other place of worship is being depicted in a violent and disrespectful setting. It is a place of peace, love and devotion not violence.

I just find it a little annoying that game developers think that they can take a holy shrine and just depict it in violence, death and bloodshed... 1984 was a terrible year (genocide attempt) and to see this is an insult. Hey it’s just one of those dude, we can agree to disagree. I feel like you’re an atheist or agnostic... am I right?

@@luckys1227 Yeah I'm a atheist and I honestly think the developers weren't trying to intentionally reference that massacre to be completely honest as that was many years before the game came out and also while you can massacre everyone in game that is not the actual way to play the game as you are supposed to be a silent assassin in-game not a mass murderer.

The game doesn't come anywhere close to imitating the Golden Temple... And Sikh cults do exist but mainstream Sikhs often declare them as non-Sikhs.

You can uncensor the Steam version though by copying over the GOG files to the Steam version and voila, the Steam version is now uncensored... This link explains it in better detail: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1663221359

@@yashdubey1080 I'm not defending it. It just more or less seems to be a product of the time. ignorance is most likely the reason. I don't think people from Denmark really have much exposure to Hindu or Sikh especially in 2002. Nintendo has done something similar with Ocarina of Time with putting Islamic prayer in a music track.

I just got a copy of the Australian "Atari Heroes" budget release of Hitman 2 from 2003. Is that the uncensored version? The readme on the disc tells me it's v1.0. Update: Checked the files on the Atari Heroes reissue and they're identical to the ones on Steam (same file modified dates). Guess I'll have to get it off GOG then.

So I just read about Dalits. I know what Skihs are but didnt know that Dalits are basically the worst caste when I understand that right? Basically people that are historically discriminated etc. Why is that alright but not a videogame with a fictional story where real people are actually not hurt? ;) Of course you could make the temple more different from the real version but thats about it imo.

You forgot the most important difference. Female cult members were removed from the level Temple City Ambush, and as far as I know they weren't even replaced with male counterparts, which makes this change the only one that has a direct impact on gameplay, as there are fewer guards patrolling the level as a result.

All versions have blood. The only thing missing are the bloody gunshot wounds and flying bits of flesh from _Hitman: Codename 47._ But they never made it into the second part.
