This is exactly what I mean. Knowing the trajectory makes it " easier" to hit. With a lot of practice you will hit the ball. This is because you know or get used to the trajectory and speed of the ball. A machine shoots almost 100% of the times the ball at (in) the same spot. This is because the machine is NOT throwing harder, but the distance, there is a less of a distance for the ball to move out of the trajectory of the bath area. (The square inch of the barrel of the bath will be through the air at that distance). If he stand at a normal distance and give the ball chance to move (even if it is a machine throwing straight ball) at those real speeds he will not be able to hit it. Because the trajectory will NOT be the same each time. And to test this , let the machine at normal distance throw a 200 mph slider, heck even a 100 mph slider or a curve, his idea of how good he is might be changes. This is why Knuckle balls are so difficult to hit. IT IS NOT ABOUT THE speed but about the trajectory of the ball, if it chances in anyway or have no "simple" trajectory, it will be difficult to hit. Even at low speed.

You are right to an extent, the ball has a maximum velocity so that 250 isn't necessarily going to go 2.5x further, and since his swing is just a chop at it, it would probably go to the outfielders. If he extended his swing a bit (physically impossible with the ball's speed), then it would probably clear the fence.

It's very impressive that he is making CONTACT with the ball, but I find a swing like Rafael Devers's home run off Aroldis Chapman throwing 103 to be more impressive. This man's swing is essentially an extended bunt, impressive anyways, but let's not act like he's the best hitter to ever exist.

Donny Waltkins Strictly speaking, the ball is traveling at 80 mph or whatever the machine is set at. It is however, an equivalent reaction time to a ball thrown 250 mph from 60.5 ft.

It is absolutely not the same thing, extrapolated from that short distance, the ball could be anywhere in the zone, increasing the chance for a miss. That also does not account for the fact that different parts of the zone are inherently more difficult to hot from (depending on the hitter, obviously). A ball either thrown or launched from 60 feet will have an extremely high rotational velocity, and even with BP balls, there can be some unusual movement due to the magnus effect and depending on the angle of the rotation. That said, the impressive part here is the consistency rather than the actual feat itself. He has clearly learned the timing of the machine, but he must have exceptional hand-eye coordination in order to hit a ball that consistently under those conditions. It is physically impossible for a human to react that quickly, if we assume he is reacting to the "release point" of the machine. The only way this is possible is to learn the timing from an earlier point and he also shortens his swing in order to compensate. I am frankly offended that someone named Baseball forever would be this dismissive over something like this. The 3 dimensional movement of the ball is an enormous part of the difficulty of hitting a ball, and I would argue that hitting a wiffle ball from a professional level (yes it's a thing) wiffle ball pitcher might be more a more difficult combination of speed, reaction time, movement, and randomness. So, long story short, no they are absolutely not the same thing. That notwithstanding, he seems like a genuinely cool guy, especially having read some of the kind comments about him.

Additionally, the human eye is incapable of tracking an object moving at greater than roughly 17.5 mph across his/her vision (with several caveats). A ball moving at 250 mph would likely be LITERALLY impossible to see and track, which is not the case here.
