Was hitting irons good, driver really bad and watched your video on that. You fixed my driver. Then the irons went bad, then came to this video. Irons look good again! Thank you!!
This is because you are trying to hammer your driver so this locks your arms and wrists. Some days you get lucky and hit it well so the next time you go out you think you've got it and hit even harder so now you lose the driver too. Focus on the the concept and a few things. Do the work and you will have it for life. This is me. The other day I shot an 82....ten bogeys and eight pars. My gameplan is hit a good drive and then get my iron somewhere around the green and maybe get up and down for a par. Don't get me wrong I do hit a good iron now and again but I'm very inconsistent. The irons I have the most confidence in are my eight and six irons...the least is my pitching wedge and I have altogether given up hitting full shots with my sand wedge. I don't try to hit down on the ball but I am going to try to stand taller to these shots and see what happens. My next option will be to install driver shafts on all my clubs.
Thanks Paul i needed that! this past week i had a couple rounds where this exact thing happened, was killing my driver and hitting fairways then chunking irons and even had a couple shanks directly right with wedges .. YES i am sure i was doing what you just showed, bending over too much and swing too up/down instead of around
I tried this and it didnt work. The volume button is broken on my laptop so I couldnt hear you but it seemed that you were saying to twirl around a driver cover a few times and then whack away with an iron. Then it looked like you were saying to do some touch your toes type of drills so I did that and it did kind of help my wedge game, but actually made my other irons even worse. The guys that got paired with me werent very happy with my tee box routine either.
Man this has been me lately. Missed one fairway last round and still only shot in the mid 80’s.. I have zero confidence in my irons right now but I will be trying this on the range tomorrow! Thanks Coach 😊
that awesome...Its so hard to get the amazing feeling of greatness..i lost all confidence in my irons...i seen what im doing my health so bad i am flinching at impact..i could bump say a wall an the pain shoots through me like i put finger in electric socket..my friend watching me said you look like you drawing up at impact causing me pull the ball..the pull hook is my shot cost me great rounds
Thanks Paul. I will think of this tomorrow when I practice. The thing is that I feel a big difference between the 6i and the 7i. 6i is “round” and 7i is vertical… there is like a step between this two irons, which I think is not logical, but…
I found this video extremely informative and useful as I hit my driver very well but struggle with irons. Ive always been curious though, what's the benefit of using single length irons?
Glad you found this one. Single length irons allow you to do one iron swing with all clubs. I have 2 sets. I do like them but it is tricky to hit the longer irons.
Wow Paul, this is great. I think this is what I've been looking for. Sitting in the living room right now, frustrated with my game. Driver has always been wonderful. irons have been awful, especially the last decade or so. Can't wait to get out and try this. I think you have described my problem perfectly!. Thanks!
Yes tons or people do this cause they are being told to hit down. You need to never think that way. Think around and around know that you are on a tilt so the club will hit down.
Thanks for video. This is exactly my problem. Will try out the tips. My question is how do you make up for the shorter club? Bend at knees, or hands closer to body? I don’t see how just rotating allows better contact w a shorter club. Thanks
Glad you see it. Take an athletic position. Change the angle in your wrists. You need to watch these: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EDlwfq_ZBvE.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_ji_zykZlY8.html Listen carefully to what I am saying in these 2 tips.
Thanks Paul, years ago I was taught a vertical swing and I played it for years. With you info I’ve managed to play with no pain and a much smoother swing and im still improving. 😊
Obviously ? 2: min 53 seconds, how is an upright golf swing plane "obviously" causing mishits? If anything a more uprite swingplane results in a lighter club dynamically which gives more control. Also higher lofts in th shorter clubs equals more control of th direction of ball flite. Read ur 'Fundamentals of Golf' book again please b4 posting these errorneous non supported "Obviously" videos. Or take more time to explain 'YOUR' Conclusions. U r definitely off th mark / incorrect.
Yeah obviously. The person is picking the club up and hitting down on the ball with their arms. You don't think in my 34 years of teaching I haven't seen thousands of people just whacking away it with their arms. This is easy 90% of everyone I've taught. Quit thinking in terms of reality. Think in terms of the student and what you can say to them to get them doing it. Like my other tips this one has helped tons of people start hitting their irons great again. Read the comments. I get unreal results and have gotten unreal results for 34 years. If you think you can do better than me then start your own channel. If not, understand what I am saying. Maybe you will actually learn something. I don't mind the conversation but as I said in the other answer, if your going to bash me then go away. I don't have time to argue with people who think they know everything about the swing and teaching it to people.
Not trying to start an argument. Im saying it is not obvious that hitting a longer shafted club requiring a flatter swingplane is easier for more people to hit than a shorter club with an uprite swing. I am saying th opposite because I was taught that gripping down gives more control: which is even more uprite of a swingplane, and that taking th less lofted longer clubs out of th bag for that very reason benifits th most golfers. Such as removing th Driver and th 2,3, & 4 irons will lower our scores. Th PGA Teaching Manual says: Para 2 page 143 "Th flatter swing may hav a better chance of staying 'connected' than one in which th arms try to reach high in th backswing. Staying 'connected' makes it easier to time th swing. A more uprite swing however, wanders less from th aim line, & if timed correctly allows a good chance to hit th ball straight." As well as page 192 para 2. says "1. Shorten down on th grip for greater control" ... This is why it is not obvious to me. Socrates Posted May 10, 2020 "It's not the loft. It's the length of the shaft that makes it easier to hit. The shorter a shaft, the easier to control." A further look is a google search of " aren't shorter clubs more accurate? " Any bashing was unintentional, my intention is to seek th truth. Th truth is not obvious in ur presentation for th above reasons.
This is where people are thinking inside the box. Imagine a 30 foot long driver. If so, the only way you could even swing it is flatter. If you went up the club would be all over the place. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wKkJmtCa6Dw.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-x5K9S9vZiN0.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5vq92sBQyU4.html Gripping down can give you more control but you need a decent swing in the first place to see the effect. If you took a poorer golfer and had them grip down they would bend over way too much and take it back way too vertically. Keep in mind I don't want a flat swing. I want a swing that is not sideways and too vertical. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-b3UKoIkUJ4g.html Watch that. I want you coiling and lifting to se the top. Forget the PGA teaching manual. See how big it is? Waste of time. It should be 1 page. This is how simple the swing is. Until people see that they will always make it more complicated. This keep people coming back for more and more lessons. The problem with that is 90% of all golfers don't practice. Watch me fix this guy in just over 3 mins. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-q5RojTx5sHI.html
I didn't miss one fairway today with the driver after watching you for a couple months and they were 20 yards longer and then I couldn't hit my irons. Thanks for your help man
Finally the thought process that I needed to hear! I've had round where I've crushed irons and it felt easy and in one motion next round a little thin so I would try to hit down on them and yes lose the line and add spin so lose the distance too. Driver a consistant 275-280 carry (UK conditions) yet 7 iron struggling to go more than 140 on a normal day and I couldn't for the life of me think why. Might actually get that yardage I would expect for my swing speed now whilst maintaining that control!
Glad you found this one. Too many people trying to change their swing for different clubs. Game is tough enough already never mind having to do all different swings. Just follow this one and in no time you will be playing great given your driver distances. I would say 7 iron easy 170. You've got this.
I have to thank you once again, I gained about 30 yards of my driver, 10 plus of my irons, and pretty darn straight too, most of them. If my clubs were custom fit i wonder how much more better it would be? I’ll be playing a round today with a buddy, I’ll be telling him about this great channel. All the struggles I had are starting do fade away. I’m well pleased with the proper direction I’m headed. Thank you for helping me with those great tips. I just turned 60, never ever to late to have fun with this wonderful sport. One happy subscriber!
Thanks for the promo. I appreciate it. Well, it is important you go to a professional clubfitter and have your clubs checked. Before doing so make sure you know for a fact you are doing the right set up. If you change that after getting fitted you will need to get fitted again. Yes, you are doing well. Big things for you next year.
I have a bunch of tips on topping it. Topping is you hitting hard with the arms. Turn them off completely. I am not hitting anything. I am doing a movement and the ball is hit: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wQgWZMLgC1Y.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vZ4jKpIscJU.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-X_pF7x-OCXU.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jUA5giMywEg.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iWJIHx6cj3g.html
Well, you're watching this tip so you need help with driver. Do it as I said in the tip and you will be hitting driver amazing in 10 mins. What's a vertical line swing? Mid boggling how many terms they are trying to come up with for no reason.
i’m new to golf i’ve only had my clubs a couple months, played my first round the other day. i hit my drivers and my hybrid okay. but i couldn’t swing an iron to save my life. this helped tremendously. i was topping balls or hitting the dirt until i stopped bending over so much.
This is me. Beautiful drive right down the middle 260 yards. Hit the fairway 13 out of 14 holes last week. Ball is sitting up on that manicured fairway mocking me as it knows I am about to &^$#$& it all up. Shot a 95. How it that even possible? Driving me insane!!!!! Also I have never taken a divot in my life.
You are trying to hit. I am not. You need to watch this and understand why a divot is taken. Get this and you are on your way:[ ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_ji_zykZlY8.html
Paul, This is exactly what I needed. I love your tips! My driver has been working great thanks to your tips and I couldn't understand why my irons are so far off when I would think they would be easier to hit. Thanks so much!! JJ
First time ever that the Iron swing has been explained as around instead of up and down. I instantly looked like a professional. 82 years swinging the wrong way. 😄😚
I really appreciate your help. I was finally starting to hit the hybrids and woods well, fresh learned and then …when I came back to the irons….pafffffff… couldn’t do it anymore. The problem was exactly what you described. I pulled my iPhone on the driving range ( I was alone hahaha ) and watched your video carefully. Results: IMEDIATE SUCESS… I went home afterwards with a big smile and a heart full of gratitude for you!!! Thank you so much ❤
So glad you found this. Common problem for most people. Never hit down. Watch t his one too: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EDlwfq_ZBvE.html
One quick thought Paul. With the short iron like pitching ,9,8 Iron make a circular swing and stand upright. Correct. When you say circular so if I am addressing the ball which is 6 o’clock. On my right is 3 o’clock. So my swing goes around my body 5 o’clock to 8 o’clock. After hitting 40 balls nothing happening then started rotating l that first one hit solid. I was bending down too much. Then I saw your video over and over. So I hover the club may be an inch to stay upright.it worked excellent and hit another 30 balls. Solid. Is this good or bad. Do the same with driver and 3 wood. Sorry for the long explanation. Thanks again.
You are going to 3 o'clock then you are hinging the club up to the top. Don't get too flat. The club has to go up at some point. Just don't reach up too high. At the top the lead arm should only be slightly higher than the shoulder plane. Not way up there too vertical. Think coil and a little lift until it goes up there on its own.
Paul, I’ve always heard you want the top of the club to fall an inch or 2 above your knee at address. It looks like in your photo with the SW and 7i that the top of your club would hit up around your thigh. Is that okay if you’re standing taller?
Never heard that before. I certainly don't want you bent over too much. Think athletic. Think short stop. Think ready position. That is the setup. You start tilting too much and you will have serious issues as well as a sore back.
Paul.....would it make sense to play single length irons as a way to help stand taller? Of course they are still shorter than woods. I have a set(Cobra f9s) and they are 37.5" in length(I'm 6ft tall) but they do help me stand taller. And I hit them ok. I also have a set of Callaway Apex cf16's at standard length. And I hit them ok too....but do fine myself hunching over a little more with them. Anyway.....just wondered if you thought the one length's might help the average person in overcoming the problem as you described.
I played single length for a bit then I switch to PXG. just can't beat PXG irons but I do like the single length too. Actually I have 2 sets of them now that I think about it. Get them at 7 iron length thought not 8 iron.
Played golf yesterday, killing the driver no problem. Couldn’t hit a beach ball with my irons 🤔🤦♂️. finding it harder to slow down the arms with the irons. I’ll try this tip hitting the range today.
That great that you got driver. This is the hardest club for most people. I would think you were hitting down or too tilted. Glad you found this tip. Keep it in mind next time out and see how you do.
Brilliant!!!!😄😄😄😄. So happy you made this video. I bombed my driver all morning and hit 1 in every 5 iron shots decent (not even good). Now I see what I was doing. Thank You.
I look forward to trying this. I practice, daily; irons only. I’ve taken lessons. I hit my driver a consistent 275, straight as an arrow. Swing my irons as if I’ve never picked up a club. It’s a pretty good looking swing, but both contact and distance are horrible.
Yes, this tip should help. Too many people try to purposely hit down with irons. Watch that one plus this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EDlwfq_ZBvE.html
Thanks, Paul. Another great explanation and something to be aware of. Reminds me of the problem where after you hit a great drive and then blow the approach. I noticed toward the end of a round, or when tired I start leaning over more, causing the fat shot. This is a very good reminder to stand taller!
This session addresses my perennial problem since i was 6 years old. Thanks Paul, you seem to have the most comprehensive knowledge of the golf swing and it's mechanics of all the instructors I have watched. You also have a great way of explaining not only the problem but also the cure; your drills zero right in on the new feeling one needs to emulate.
Thanks so much. Glad you found this one. A lot of people do this but it makes sense because the clubs are shorter. So you need to tell yourself to not do it. I see a lot of this young pros doing this now. Their backs are going to be killing them in the next few years. Keep getting used to this into the future and you will take your game to a whole new level.
Funny but I caught myself all bent over yesterday and corrected it without even understanding what you have shared. I simply felt too bent over and tried to be more vertical. Can't even explain why - like you have here - but it worked!! I feel that I need to invest FAR more time in practice Paul - often without a ball - to correct the severely ingrained issues I have. Too often I feel like, "Yup...I got what Paul is showing me! I'm ready to shave 20 strokes!!" Of course, I DO see improvements but 2 things happen. The first is I discover other items needing work and/or I default back to bad habits but realize it only after I've made a series of horrific shots! I love this sport. Why does it hate me? :)
Cause you are not seeing it clearly. Keep it simple. You have the arm unit. The wrists hinge and re-hinge. The hinge is loose. If you have it mastered you rarely ever put slice spin on it. So stick with that first. Do daily practice swings working on these tips: Wrist release drills: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-p4vASmOzkPg.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-N-nGM6yN790.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-M868QsTlGt4.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jQZLp8bF-Ww.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5_O0H2QNFo0.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Xk7t9yHCO-I.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sZ2-dqOausU.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7olBqwXF3Ik.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jEWe9Gaoqxo.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6ZeTqcz2pmE.html This is half. And now I watched this one. This video combined with your How to Hit 250 yards+ driver by changing your mindset, got me from 85 to 78! I broke 80!!! For the first time!!! Now I'm scouring all your other videos and sharing with friends! Now I need to practice putting.
Now that's what I'm talking about. That is an exciting one to break. Tells you that you can do it. Don't expect it every time just yet. It will happen though. Stick to the plan.
Hi Paul, thank you so much for this vid. For years I have struggled to hit irons. I dont know where i’ve lost it. Driver i can hit it solid (eventhough sometimes went left) but my iron shots were VERY VERY, inconsistent, sometimes chunking it, sometimes thin it. And when i hit it reasonably well, there’s no distance whatsoever. I watch golf pump drill video in youtube, and combined with this video, i realized that i stand too far from the golf ball and i always bend my body low (not standing tall). And now i can hit it pure more often than ever before. For years my avg round score was around 95-97. But after watching this video, i scored 85-91-89 at three different courses. Thats an 8-12 strokes improvement!! And even one of the course is a new course for me that i havent played before. Wow, im speechless. This is an AHA moment for me. Now i can enjoy playing golf again. Thank you so much!
Glad you found this one. This is big. You need to hit all clubs well. A lot of people tilt too much with driver. This is big trouble if you do that. Stay focused and change it. Once you do your whole game will change.
Interesting. While teaching around & around , you still produce an upright backswing. A good thing. Can’t get over that forehead cam you used. You really take the club head straight back for a long distance on your takeaway.
Yes, for those too flat I sometimes need them to lift it up manually until it goes up there on its own. Might be the camera angle but I don't really take it straight back. I just want it following the arc.
You need to follow this tip and get used to the new angle of rotation of you body. Fat: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UwynwFBldv4.html Shank: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-m9kj0548rYw.html Thin: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-X_pF7x-OCXU.html
Absolutely simple but brilliant observation explained. Exactly my problem. Bought Paul's body swing series sometime ago and my driver distance/fairway woods improved 30 yards within a month. I can highly recommend it for improving club head speed effortlessly. You do have to commit to practice but without commitment real change is not possible. Thank you for this video as was not noticing same improvement with my irons. I am now hopeful I have a road to further improvement.
Glad you liked it. Thanks. A lot of people are way too tilted. This will never work. Thank you for your support. Glad you have improved. Yes, you need to put in the work. For me and my technique you can literally learn it at home without hitting any balls. Just need to do some practice swings at home. Get the swing ... you get the ball.
Iv been in a slump with irons for almost a month. Been a great iron striker all year until all of a sudden. It’s shank city out there. Or if I’m not shanking it I’m hitting it thin or a bad pull. My driver, woods, & hybrids are all solid right down the middle. It’s frustrating. I’ve been a 6 handicap for the last 2 years. Idk what to do.
Do you think this problem is partly because many golf instructors hilight pointing the left shoulder-right hander- at the ball during the backswing and this can result in bending the torso down too much? Thank you for your work to help us improve at this vexing game.
Maybe. Totally wrong thing to tell people. That happens due to firing the hips not because you are trying to do it. Lots of bad info out there. Need to get to the root of the problem. This causes that. They try to fix "that" which never fixes anything. And they never tell you why. Some good ones out there too. Not to bash.
My kid got frustrated with driver and had no confidence with hybrids. So he took a five iron to tee off, and hit something a 30 year old Nicklaus would hit. So the 5-uron was the driver all day.
Yeah, I was so bad with driver growing up I used to tee off with 3 irons. Turns out this was all grip related. Strong grip = no loft on your driver = huge low hooks. It all starts with the grip.
Hi Paul, During your setup, it appears that you keep your head quite vertical and are not staring directly at the ball. Is this the proper position of the head in order for it to move when you coil? Best regards, Phillip
Just trying to get the shoulder under the chin. I am bending over a little more recently. Should be on a 30 degree forward tilt. Make sure your chin isn't down so much you can't coil the shoulders.
This tip resurrected my iron game, which used to be goid then went bad. Same with the iron good driver bad. Shot 85 yesterday, 10 stroke improvement. Thanks
I hit driver good one day, irons the next and then back to driver bad and irons ok. Still having issues with getting my arms out of the swing I guess. And trying to get the hip rotation at the same time. Man this seems like it should be simple, but it’s really not that simple when you’ve been hitting with your arms for so long and not rotating properly.
This is what I deal with on a daily basis. You are not alone. Focus on getting the arm unit working. This is half of the swing. It is working when you are not putting slice spin on the ball. Once you get this you half half. Then you work on the body which is the other half.
I crush my driver 320 - 330 and can shape it as I please, but my irons and wedge game is hugely inconsistent. Thank you for the tip. I find a lot of the times I am too far away from the ball with my irons but when I bring it closer I start chunking fat shots. Thank you for the tips i will try to stand up a little taller and see if that helps.
Came back to this after having some issues with my 8 iron and up. Either chunked them or hit them barely far at all. This got me back on track. Shot an 82 this morning. Thanks Paul!
This is me struggle with irons no trouble with tee shots. I believe I finally cracked the code with your tip. Just using the weight of the club and swinging toward the target with letting the ball get in the way. I was always trying to hit the ball that was causing the problem. I cant believe how far the ball goes with such little effort. My irons go 10 yrds further and I’m barely swinging. Thanks
Glad you figured it out. You need to go back and start watching my other tips. Not hitting with the arms is what I am all about. Here are all of my tips: ru-vid.comvideos
I am going to give this a try. Around like I do with driver now and hope that stops me hitting ball so high and can get more distance like 15-20yrds or more. You really have helped me with my driver. I am much straighter and farther then ever
Yes, too many people are too vertical with irons. You get a more rotational swing and it's so much easier to hit great shots. Watch: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PZkBP21bPJU.html
Get a lot of people telling me this. I know they are trying to hit down with is totally unnecessary. Watch these tips too: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EDlwfq_ZBvE.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_ji_zykZlY8.html
im the opposite, have watched alot of the pure irons video and im hitting thrm really well, but now thw woods and driver is a catastrophe. Maybe im to horisontal with the driver then?
So if they are right the face is open. Why not roll from the top and hook every shot. This way you are doing half right. Get that first then you switch to body for power. Oh yeah, stop hitting down with the irons: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EDlwfq_ZBvE.html
@@paulwilsongolf Thank u I fell from a ladder recovering from injuries several 🙄 but struggling to get back under 100 but I'm watching an trying when able thank u again for your content!!
Glad you are getting back into it. Just swing loose not hard. Power it with your legs not your arms. All of my tips explain it. Do daily practice swings at home. This is the fastest, easiest way to get it.
Guilty as charged. Working on this standing taller at address with irons. It's a tricky thing because when you're so used to bending too much when you stand tall you feel like you can't reach the ball. Lifting my chin up seems to help. Great tip! Will focus on a more level shoulder turn next game.
I had that issue today at the range for some reason. after seeing this I'm certain I was too vertical bc I was even slice some but my driver was dead on.. thanks again coach!!!
I'm quite opposite been hitting my driver non stop on the heel but my irons been spot on. Used to hit the driver great idk what happened trying to figure out what went wrong.
Your trying to hit it from the top with your arms. Watch: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Xk7t9yHCO-I.html and ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KlffJzbskmM.html and ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-m8FxSZSmKEw.html Keep the wrists loose.
Funny after month following your drills my iron games couldn’t be better. Driver not so much they seem go straight but slowly leak right. Not a horrible slice but just enough to live dangerously
So the face is slightly open. This means you are not allowing it to rehinge. In other words with driver you are trying to hit just a little too hard and tightening your wrists. So, loosen them.
Watch these 2 and think about your wrists as a hinge: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Xk7t9yHCO-I.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OFJOLBSXSfQ.html
Thanks Paul! You teach well how to feel the technique. I am 60 and after a year watching your videos, I kind of get there and have the effortless swing you teach. My friends are amazed to see the ball going so far effortlessly. My handicap went down by 8 strokes easy (now 8). When they ask me what I did to get there, I send your videos. One of my friend even visited you last winter... Keep up the good work!
Great to hear! Thanks so much for the promo. I appreciate it. I hope your friend is still doing it. I can show people, explain it but it is up to them to keep doing it.
Nicely explained! I had troubles with my swing, and I stumbled on one of the golflethics vid, Milo said he strikes better with more upright posture , and I tried it and it immediately felt more natural for my body to turn than a steeper pro like swing. Less strain for my back too. And you just confirmed it further. I spent too much effort in designing pro like swing, hurts a lot, and thankfully now, your swing is the one that makes sense. Less effort, virtually no pain, and happier swing.
Milo has some good stuff. I'm not big on the lean left at the top as this is stack and tilt. The baseball type move is good swinging around not up and down too much.
I am thrilled about this explanation! Just broke 80 today whilst producing many GIRs due to the increased distance...all with the help of loosened wrists, bodyswing motion and alignment adjustions, not to forget the basis of all: the neutral grip. But am still struggling with the differences of the woods and now got the explanation right here. Maybe the day of my driver going with me on the course is closer than I thought...so far only W7 came with me and worked as my play club...
Hi Paul, I found this video while looking for help with my setup. This video is great as it illustrates the importance of how to set up with short & long irons and driver . Question, is the club's butt always pointing at the belt buckle? It seems like when watching at 6:28... Tks. Phil
No. There is nothing different. You have one swing. Definitely don't hit down on these clubs. This tip might help: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pjOXHIWU8ps.html
Every time I hit my irons it does not go any distance. I am delisting the club and my 7 iron become 9 iron and looses lot of distance. And no divot at all. Am I bending too much? Need help please. Thanks
So watch the tip and try it. Stand up. Loosen your arms. Feel your legs and hips powering the swing. No divot is telling you that you are hitting it with your arms.
Paul, I bought your program and love your tips. As a result, I have caught myself bending over too much with all the clubs- usually when I get tired walking the back nine. I was hoping you could provide an pointer/video to me (and a lot of others) on how to keep the head down through impact and stop "peeking" that result in topped shots. I understand this usually tends to be when a person swings too hard... and old habits are though to break-- but any advice you could give to focus on the ball would be most helpful :-)
@@paulwilsongolf Paul, thanks for your reply. I totally get what you are saying about tilting the head/swinging hard/early extension ( standing up) . My bad habit as a mid handicapper is to sometimes rotate my head along with my upper body in anticipation of a great shot, but you and other pros are still looking at the tee long after impact. So short of a nose ring tied to a brick on the ground is that something that a person needs to consciously work on or do you have a drill to help that? Thanks so much
The driver Paul was giving me the most distance i've ever had but irons were like a broken compass, shooting balls in every degree and not far either,i was at my wits end but this wonderful demonstration of yours explained why, many thanks Paul, can't wait to try it.
Paul i have improved on your advice, more distance, straight shots, but there is something missing and i can’t fathom it out, possibly you can.It seems the iron, in this case the seven, has trouble with distance because i’m just not hitting in the sweet spot.I’ve tried various things including adjusting the grip, placing the club religiously behind the ball, trying to hover,to no avail.Your thoughts Paul?
It is basically this tip I just posted. What clubs do people shank? Shorter ones right? Shorter clubs are shorter so you bend over more. When you do the body mass overhangs your toe line. So you get to the top and the weight rolls forward so you shank it. Stand taller with shorter clubs. Feel like you are going down not forward. Look up to the sky then look down until you can see the club and ball clearly not your toes (peripheral is fine). If you clearly see your toes you are too low. Fixed.
thanks for the tip Paul! I think I've been way too steep with the irons, going to work on this at the range. It's been so embarrassing to bomb the driver, and chunk or block the approach shot!!
Many reasons. You don't even need to know my name. He's the guy in the red shirt. Saves me time figuring out what to wear. Anytime you see red you will think of my tips. Power color. More but I don't want to tell you. I do everything for a reason(s).
Well, the elements of the swing are the same. You coil you hinge you uncoil you rehinge. The length of the club changes the plane of the swing. Longer club shallower plane. Also, as you are trying for more distance with say driver you put more lower body into it. The more you fire the lower the more your body tilts behind the ball. For me, I try to think it's the same swing and motion. I just allow the club to do its thing based on its length.
@@paulwilsongolf Definitly tightening up. My driver swing doesnt feel natural at all. I tried a stronger grip and it helped a little . Only enough to keep balls in play somtimes. It slices and with so much spin it just goes crazy My irons are way more consistantly with no slice. My friend who doesn't golf came out yesterday . He definitly had an effortless type swing and he played the best of all of us.
So the face is open. This means you are not allowing it to rehinge. In other words with driver you are trying to hit it too hard and tightening your wrists. Once you do that then start adding body to straighten it out. Curing slices is one of my specialties. I can usually cure people in about 5 mins.
