HIV is a virus, and AIDS is an umbrella of diseases caused by immune system deficiencies. If you kill the virus, one MIGHT be able to restore their immune system. However, most people die when they develop AIDS because they have so many complications to battle.

I can’t begin to understand her pain from being born with HIV. She needs to be fully educated though. You can NOT get rid of HIV.. you can become undetectable , where the virus is undetected in the blood, yet you are and will always (until there’s a cure*) be HIV positive. Also, she better start disclosing her status to people she has sex with. If not, she is going to find herself locked up , whether she is undetectable or not. If I ever run into her, I’d report her if she is out here lying about her status and sleeps with someone without telling them. I don’t play that. I worked for the health department for many years. I have friends who have died horrible deaths from AIDS and no one deserves it.

Not true. I was an HIV/AIDS Case Manager for over 2 years. You can absolutely take medicine for both and have an undetectable status. There's no cure, but it's treatable for sure! We've came a long way with this!

Ma'am, tell that to the many of people wo have slept with someone without disclosing or even knowing their medical history and vice versa. This literally can happen to anyone. Unfortunately, she was born with it. She didn't have a choice. But your comment about people with it needing to only be with people alike, is very insensitive and ignorant. You need to educate yourself a little better. People who take their medication daily and are undetectable cannot sexually transmit to anyone. That's for one. For two, if you are taking care of your health, you are not harming anyone. Being honest about about your status is important as well. And it is up to that person if they want to continue. At that point, you are not of any harm. Actually, people who know their status and if positive, takes their medication, are more safer than the person you meet and doesn't even know If they have anything because they haven't felt the need to go to the doctor.

HIV status is not a reason to force any woman to have an abortion. Once the woman takes her medication very well and her viral load is very low/undetectable, the baby will be born free of HIV by CSection.

She's hella courageous for doing this interview. She's wise and getting wiser. More and more people are aware of the differences between hiv and aids so it's not as stigmatized like it was back in the day. Stay healthy, you still have so much life ahead. I'm 43 no kids, or significant other but I'm still enjoying the ride of life thru its ups and downs. Get your career started with whatever training you need to do. Learn to teach yourself when taking all those classes by reading and asking questions. Talk to a counselor or therapist. Stay away from hard drugs like crack, ice, heroin, etc. Yes, they are temporary escapes, but they cause a whole lotta other problems (i've tried 'em and I'm battling after 4 years). She didn't say she used any, but in the street life the opportunity will present itself eventually. Y'all are in my prayers. Its gonna be a rough ride, but shes a strong one. 💯
