Pripyat, Ukraine was known as one of the worst hit locations from the Chernobyl disaster in 1986 which is why Pripyat is abandoned. Pripyat was affected by the shockwave that took place when Reactor 4 meltdown occurred just a few miles away. Most people in Pripyat at that time died from the shockwave, intense heat, &/or long term effects (blindness, cancer, radiation poisoning, schizophrenia) My mom developed schizophrenia when they lived in Kyiv, an affected city, as well as my great grandmother lived in Pripyat, and she died from radiation poisoning, as well as my grandfather has been part of the cleanup team in May 1986. Also it’s likely that Pripyat was part of Chernobyl, a possible suburb or neighborhood in Chernobyl, especially because Chernobyl & Pripyat is around the same place. I also already knew that Pripyat map was part of the Pripyat-Chernobyl area because I have been in Ukraine for 2 years, plus my family is Ukrainian meaning I’m Ukrainian too. Chernobyl and Pripyat is about 2-3 miles away from each other however it could likely be closer as Pripyat used to have 50,000 people and the area of Pripyat was larger then now where all the buildings in Pripyat left came to the Pripyat map.
