Murphy's law. I enjoyed your video. Just a little safety tip for you though, re 17mins12sec footage. there is no need to turn a gas bottle valve on more than 1/2 a turn unless it is for filling purposes and if ever you have to turn it off in a hurry it can make all the difference.

Fraser is awesome. Did it about 8 years ago or more. Wicked 12 days. 33in muddies at 14psi. 2wd majority of the time no issues, not tearing up the place either. Just steady on the pedal. 😁

Matt I can tell you’re very much down on Elsie and I’ve read in your comments about a newer car being likely to not have any such issues which from an age and fatigue point of view is very true. I feel here like I’m telling you something you already know but that simple fail safe redundancy I.e being able to drive out with no ignition power and a cable tie well those days are gone. I fully understand the frustration of the situation and it being disheartening but Elsie got you out under her own steam. Your progress of preventative maintenance as you go is noticeable and her reliability will improve with each and every step and they’re basics so simple improvements make for big gains. Modern vehicles still have their issues and while they may be less frequent when they happen you almost certainly aren’t driving out, potentially not even getting towed out. More features and tech and the mandatory emissions equipment just means more to go wrong, it’s just percentages weighed against them from the day they are built, so many plugs, connections, sensors, modules and then you throw them in an environment of salt water, moisture, mud, dust, heat and they are a ticking time bomb. I deal with plenty of machines and see modern electronic and mechanical systems in machines at work and mechanical wins hands down for reliability it’s just a matter of getting enough done to reset the age clock with maintenance. Considering the condition you acquired Elsie in and what you have done and where you have been it’s an absolutely credit to you, Holly and Elsie! I will you guys all the best for your future adventures and smooth running 👍
@OverlandTravellers
@OverlandTravellers 2 года назад
I agree with you on all that, but it’s not just a hobby car anymore, it’s a work vehicle…. Not like a farm work vehicle but remote camera car. We love it and will keep her forever…. But it’s a very fatiguing car to drive and with the amount of kms we do, we are starting to consider safety. If we had a crash in that we would be second best. Ive also heard if you roll it they “fold like a house of cards”. Just a bit more to consider than the redundancies it has for starting etc. Anyway that will be a bit down the line and we love the car! We’ve got some of our best memories with it :) appreciate the comment.

@@OverlandTravellers I fully understand, you’ve got to love it for what it is and isn’t. I am extremely impressed with the distances you guys have covered so don’t get me wrong I’m not criticising at all. Big miles are definitely harder and more tiring in old cars (especially when you’re lacking power steering and aircon 😬 😁) and whether it’s old or new there is always a sacrifice and compromise.. I have a newer vehicle for daily usage and appreciate the creature comforts but if someone said I had to pick a vehicle to keep and rely on for the rest of my life it would be my old 75 series Cruiser that faithfully waits in the shed. I’ll be very interested to see what you end up with and why when the time comes and the choices you make to set it up. Have you already got a shortlist? 😁

Another great video, you can really see you guys put in a lot of effort in getting great images, makes me want to jump in the car and drive up there! One thing I noticed (and you are NOT alone in this, almost everyone does this) is the audio. The music is way louder than the spoken parts. And I am way more interested in what you say than the background music. I have to watch the video with the remote in hand constantly adjusting the volume up and down. For the rest, continue what you are doing, great work!

LET YOUR TYRES DOWN... What else is there to say. Today every sales rep has a 4X4. Hey honey lets do Fraser this weekend. Off they go to Fraser. Brisbane is way to close to Fraser. they are in the new Hilux with 18 inch rims and road tyres... no CLUE at all. But it makes good Footage. If you need a 2nd car to revisit Fraser ill ride shot gun for you. Plus get that turbo fitted. No quarter mile records, just a way better performance and way better fuel mileage.
