Panihati is a place located in the state of West Bengal, on the banks of Ganges. At this place, one of the great devotee, Sri Raghunatha Dasa Gosvami was blessed by Lord Nityananda Prabhu (incarnation of Lord Balarama) and ordered him to organize a feast of Chipped Rice mixed with yogurt (curd), condensed milk, mangoes, bananas etc and hence there was a big feast organized for the pleasure of Lord & His devotees. The Chida-dahi Mahotsava is celebrated every year in commemoration of this wonderful pastime. This festival is also known as Danda Mahotsava (the Festival of Punishment).
Hare Krishna Movement-Hyderabad celebrates this festival every year by organizing a pilgrimage yatra to a holy place. This time, the festival was celebrated at Sri Rukmini Panduranga Swamy Temple, an ancient temple located at Kandi, Near Sangareddy Dist.
More than 500 devotees from across the city travelled to Sri Panduranga Swamy Temple along with Their Lordships Sri Sri Nitai-Gauranga. Though the devotees travelled in the hot summer, as soon as they had the darshan of Lotus feet of Sri Nityananda Prabhu, which are as cool as trillions of moons, all the fatigue was forgotten and everyone joined the melodious harinama sankirtana in glorifying Their Lordships!
Later, a grand abhishekam ceremony was performed with milk, curd, ghee, honey, jaggery water and exotic fruit juices. The Deities also took a dip in the temple pond and varieties of flowers were offered as part of the abhisheka. The abhisheka is followed by a grand maha mangalarati, after which the Deities were taken in a pallaki procession around the temple, while the devotees chant, sing & dance to the melodious tunes of the holy names of the Lord in ecstasy. Varieties of preparations are made by mixing chipped rice with condensed milk, yogurt, sugar, bananas, mangoes, just like Raghunatha Dasa prepared for the devotees. These were then offered to the deities of Nitai-Gauranga and distributed to the devotees as prasadam.
Then, delicious dinner prasadam feast along with special delicacies of chida-dahi maha-prasadam of different flavors were distributed to all the devotees. More than 500 devotees participated in this divine festival and received the blessings of Sri Sri Nitai-Gauranga.
All Glories to Sri Nityananda Prabhu!
All Glories to Sri Raghunatha Dasa Gosvami!
All Glories to Srila Prabhupada!
