You need 5mm/s at 80% power on a 100 watt tube to cut 2.8mm plywood? My k40 can do 6mm at that speed, and 11mm/s for 2.8mm plywood. Did you post the wrong settings?
CO2 lasers are not visible. Well the beam isn't. You can see the inert gas in the laser but that is the inert gas turning to Plasma. Any 'beam' you see outside the laser is just the beam vaporising dust or smoke that passes thru it.
