Dude....everyone really needs to be SUPER careful when buying from GovPlanet! Be VERY leery of buying vehicles with noticeably few pics. Mine literally only had 40 pics and now that it's delivered, I can see why. So much of this vehicle is in amazing condition, but these inspectors purposely take not just few pics, but at angles so you can't see certain things to where you wouldn't bid as high. I go over most all of it in the video. So yeah I'm excited about finally getting it delivered, but that's crushed a bit because of the bad stuff :(

Hang in there. I got a Govplanet Humvee sold as runs and drives. Showed up with broken transmission. I got their lawyers involved. They settled at 30% reimbursement.

I wanna follow this closely. I had the same issue with my 1165. I put a claim and they said if there is no photo showing how it was, it is a failed claim. The fact that you took off the hood shows you modded it. That auto faults the iron clad assurance for any mod. It said steering was good but was missing the idler arm so I added it to pull it up the driveway. They rejected my claim due to that. I had brakes missing, driveshafts missing fuel injectors missing and every photo was taken at the angles like your situation. I put a claim to BBB as well as DLA. DLA stated that it is a contract between govplanet and the usmc. DLA only handles the EUC. I say if the numbers of complaints grow, they may do something. Anyways, keep me posted.

12:50 that's the transmission control module connector so you are missing that as well. I don't mean to sound harsh but it sounds like you don't have much experience buying from Govplanet. They do not sell used cars, they sell old surplus equipment, if something isn't shown, you assume its gone or broken. $10k is a steal for that, another 10k and you'll have a pretty good functional 4 speed hmmwv, lots of guys would think you are quite lucky. Message hmmwv parts anonymous if you need parts, they are the cheapest out of anyone by a longshot. That's a much better starter than a m998, you just need to put some blood, sweat and tears and you'll have a very nice humvee.
@humveeadventures
@humveeadventures 3 года назад
You're correct that I'm fairly new to the GovPlanet game....that's not being harsh at all, that's just an observational fact. I'll reply in the order of your statements: What you said applies if and ONLY if we are allowed to inspect the vehicles in person beforehand, OR they don't do the inspection at all, to where it buying something sight unseen. The fact that they do an inspection is literally the ONLY thing buyers can go off of (otherwise these vehicles would only get the bare minimum bids and I'd guess even lower than what they start at now). So to do a half-ass inspection and purposely not take pictures of certain things literally goes against any reasonable standard of an inspection. Now to be fair to GovPlanet, they do clearly state that these inspections are limited function tests and they aren't dismantling things to see exactly the type of shape they are in. Personally I think that's reasonable. Here's the thing though.....what if you were going to buy a house and the current owner hires an inspector to give a professional opinion on it. Little do you know the inspector is a friend of the owner. You get an inspection report and sure there are a few things that need addressing, and those things get taken care of and re-inspected before you buy it. 1 month into owning the home something happens and the whole foundation is messed up or there's been a plumbing leak in a shower that's easily been going on for years. In either case is abundant clear that the inspector either never inspected under the house at all, or if he did, he left that stuff out because of his relationship with the previous owner. Who do you honestly think is at fault here? 100% of the blame is on the inspector.....period, end of story. If it goes to court, there's zero chance that the fault won't be on the inspector.....I mean that's their job title. He had 1 job....just 1, that's it. So in my case the inspector clearly and purposely didn't take any pics on the transmission hanging down a bit. My transporter said he noticed it right away when walking up to the vehicle, but he doesn't know jack out these and didnt think anything of it, in part because he was going to winch it up onto his flatbed. GovPlanet sells well over 60 HMMWV's a week from 2 locations. Would any reasonable person believe an inspector who sees 20 to 30 vehicles from their location each week, that they didn't know a transmission hanging below the frame a lil bit was maybe something they might want to take a picture of? That in the steering linkage section that they only take 2 pictures and combined, barely show 25% of said linkage? Purposely not taking a pic of the connecting arm that's missing from the sway bar to the lower A arm....When I stands out like a green hat with an orange bill because everything under there is black and the sway bar bolt is silver? The first time I got under the vehicle my eyes went directly to it lol. Then there's the exhaust pieces at the top back of the engine that you can't see are missing because both pics taken were from an angle to where the engine had a black shadow on it and literally can't see the missing pieces. I can continue, but you get my drift
@humveeadventures
@humveeadventures 3 года назад
Yes you are totally correct that 10k for the condition it's in is absolutely a great price given what I knew to be missing from the pics provided. Yes you are correct in that another 10k in parts and I'm good to go. Here's the thing though....I'm going to have to spend an unexpected 4k to 5k on missing parts....the equivalent of a good used older Honda or Toyota in great running shape. It's the "unexpected" part that's the issue here. How many people have that kind of money to throw around....Extra. I barely do. I'm not a wealthy person at all.

On a side note, I was told the trucks from Yermo, CA were much less likely to be mucked with then the Georgia trucks, this is coming from long time MV collectors and such, they owned several HMMWV's so I trust their opinion. I'm coming from the H1 side [owner for about 15+ years] but genreally you hit an important note, don't drive/flat tow these home, get it trailered and always inspect in person, a few hundred spent on airfare can save thousands down the road. That being said that's a great base HMMWV to build on, turbo diesel, 4 wheel trans, etc.
@humveeadventures
@humveeadventures 2 года назад
Yeah....totally always get them flat bed delivered. As far as spending money on airfare to inspect.....nope they don't allow that. Holy cow..... I read descriptions and look closely at pictures. Even though you purchased a parts beater from Georgia (the Georgian units are dirty, corroded, abused and have countless donor units flooding the market), you agreed to purchase as is, knowing parts were missing. I've seen these, and always shy away from them. On the good side, it's an M1165. Turbo charged, heavier GVW and has dash AC. As far as parts missing, you had plenty of time to have the stuff on hand. I myself have three 1165s in paperwork. One has 28 miles, one has 68 and the one I'm keeping has 108, with AC, no doors, no top, no curtain. In the last 3 months I gathered a pair of armored X doors that I'm restoring, have a pair of canvas doors for the other truck, and front/rear canvas doors to convert one to a 4 door. I have a 3rd X door to refirbish, and I'll find another at some point. Luckily the Texas auction lot on occasion receives an X-door here-n-there and the M1102 trailers that I'm gathering. My 3 trucks came from CA. Unused, just time expired. The 2 Schutt trailers I have were never used, never hauled anything. Same exact HUMVEE wheels n tires, still having the titties on the treads. I spent a few $K more and save double that, for purchasing "turn-key" new ones. Just leaves the seats to replace, doors to slide on, top to snake through the track and have a local canvas company make a snap-curtain for the rear. For the automotive fabrication equipment that I have, and the shop I work from.....leaves me to contact an aluminum supplier for 1/4" plate, might even make my own hard top. Turn key, M1165 turbo units, that run, drive, have AC, come with X doors other with canvas doors, hard top and steel rear curtain, all sell right at the $22K/24K range. My 3 new M1165 were an average of $9500 each. Spending about $3K each to outfit and have functioning AC. The 1st one to ship to TX cost $2100, the 2nd one $1k and the 3rd, about $8500. Taxes, fees, commissions..... another chunk.... Though, Selling these complete, with trailers and camping gear....turn key and street legal. Keeping one outfit for myself. I spent 3 decades licensing dirt bikes and motocross/supermoto bikes with street titles n tags...... These won't be any more difficult, so these will be all street legal also. The GovPlanet gals have been spectacular and professional. Their yard "hands" have never been anything less than super-helpful. You should have planned better and not purchased such a beater. Hope it all works out..... but I have to ask >>>>>if it had no steering, no brakes and no turbo hot pipe...then how could you drive it, and to run it through the gears?
@humveeadventures
@humveeadventures 3 года назад
I don't recall ever saying the transmission was trashed. I could I possibly know that answer until everything was put back together and tested? It turns out that they had put in a new rear differential (maybe just because they wanted 1 with a cooler built in 🤷‍♂️). Whatever all transpired in all of that, they installed the wrong rear output bearing. Probably for the 10k shaft, which was smaller. When they when to put things back together, the shaft only went in about 1 inch and then it hit the bearing. I eventually got it all figured out and everything work perfectly now. Engine barely has any blowby at all.

Good luck with making a claim. Generally speaking, unless there is an auction picture showing an item or it is stated in the description as running or having a part, they will not honor it. That "Iron Clad Assurance" is worthless really. It only helps if someone takes parts out of or off the truck and it shows in the photos. Gov Planet is pretty much a used car lot in extreme. By the way, that appears to be a radio command truck and the bed looks great because it had a shelter mounted in it. That would also explain the 400 amp generator.

So from the sound of things, you aren't familiar with how auctions work. The simplest/quickest way to explain the fuckery is that I knew that there were missing parts from the pics GovPlanet took. That was all good and I knew what to expect when/if I won the auction. The issue is that they purposely took pics at angles to where I couldn't see other missing parts. There's zero chance that was an accident, and it has since been resolved with GovPlanet. One of the things that I found that was utter bullshit was that when you go on to these websites that supposedly have shippers bid against each other to get your business, that they can all see each other's bids LOL. In the normal world that does not happen. I've been doing Home Remodeling and Repair since 2005 and I never get to see what somebody else bids when I'm working up my bid on the job

@humveeadventures 3 года назад
Yeah after well over an hour of searching late last night I finally figured it out.....yes transmission control box. Apparently it has to match the particular transmission. Since these transmissions get installed with all different types of engines, it would need a module that's set up for these particular engines since the shift points would be different than say a gasoline engine. I'm no pro, but that's my initial guess

@@humveeadventures You can find used transmission module computers and boxes for the 4L80e on ebay and such. They average around $500 or used to. I had a couple that worked with the standard 6.5L. I wound up getting the box the module mounts in AND the module for only like 125 to 150 because the guy had no way of testing the unit to see if it worked. It does work and the shifting points seem just fine to me. So yeah I got a super score!

The end of June in 2021 it cost $2,700 to get it shipped from Albany Georgia to Boise Idaho. That was the best deal I could find, but I also found that the bidding system that companies use is whack. I do Home Remodeling and I don't get to see what other people are bidding at for a job unless I can talk the homeowner into telling me LOL. Well with this shipping stuff they all get to see what each other bids so all they have to do is just go like $100 less than the other guy and they are the cheapest, instead of just saying a legit price

Oh and remember when this was....July of 2021 which was right in the middle of all the trucking issues. The trucking industry has a massive turn over rate and ALL of the politicians in this country screwed it all up (and much more) with the covid restrictions. The training and licensing facilities were all shut down so no new people were going into the system to replace the all the people who normally quit. Supply and demand flipped and so everyone started jacking up their prices because they could. I think I would have normally paid like max 2k instead of 2.7k if it was prior to covid. Now we have the corporate gouging that's going on with the fuel and everything else.

@@humveeadventures thanks for the reply also to elaborate more on my HMMWV I changed the alternator because the bracket broke I had to have a new fly wheel and starter installed ( trans needed to be dropped for that) I changed the catalac valve new module new thermostater thermostat new half shafts new ball joints tie rod idle arm shocks etc IMPORTANT: the bolts they use on the half shafts suck and they can come loose hence one day I was driving and 2 of the half shafts came loose and destroyed the brake pads and discs they offer better bolts so if I was you I would change all of those out before you drive it anymore. I also bought a new set of tires and I bought the aluminum doors with the "pick up" conversion. Mine has a Helmet roof which I actually like a lot much storage and in the winter time all my tools are dry. I needed to replace my ranch vehicle and I decided on the HMMWV because it will get dirty and stay dirty. I wanted to rip the band aid off on this purchase and just put it behind me hence all the parts I piled into it ( some did not need replaced but if you are tearing it apart and are already into it might as well change the others out while it is taken apart. I have the 6.2 diesel a simple cut and dry engine top speed is around 45 mph that is not pushing it hard but it gets a daily dose of off road use. It has been running really well all year now so I am pretty happy with it you can also look up on internet about how to lightly press the brake while giving it fuel and that will lock the wheels back and forth in order to get out of a pinch it is not fool proof but it is a major help. also a winch is useful for me I have gotten mine stuck twice and it got me home. be careful about the hand brake maybe yours has a actual park mine does not and a couple times it took off rolling and I was lucky enough to jump into it ( doors were off) and get it stopped before it went tumbling into a canyon on the ranch. this ranch is were pickup trucks come to die a slow painful death and as of now the HMMWV is thriving in my region. good luck on your rig good news is they will always have value for resale
