I took a trip to the City of Plymouth to record HMNB Devonport siren test on Monday 17th August 2020, this video was taken in Camels Head just outside the Dockyard boundaries. Amazing to say the least.

Oh my god someone finally got a shot of these up close!! Intresting how the shutters stay open and also intresting that they close a little while after they stop. Do you plan to go back here and if so do you know of the other two locations?

@@BritishLifeSafetySystems Sounds good. The one by the MOD car park is the one I think is high pitched as I've seen a news report where it seems to be going off with the shutters closed. I don't know though.

Yes, it’s a CS8, the same model used by broadmoor until a few years ago and still used by carstairs hospital

I always wondered why dont they do the "escape" tone? And they arent doing the proper "all clear" tone... they are doing a tone that broadmoor escape sirens dont do EDIT: when the siren was running down it didnt close the shutters imidialtly it runned downed a bit and then it closed them unlike the broadmoor sirens wich the shutters close imidialtly.

You replied to this in the time it takes for the rotors to stop, I'm rather surprised I still liked how the Broadmoor system actually used them to do the hi-lo-hi-lo sound instead of just dampening.

I have no clue, plus they ceased production in around 2005, so they can no longer be bought through Klaxon

In my country, you can buy one of them, i remember that the CS8 (with solenoids) i bought was around 12,400,000 ₽ Рублей, Rublej, but it depends in which region, state, Okrug, district, area or Subject, Субъектов, the price of the article changes, except in the Republic of Jakútija, Saha, where sirens cannot be owned.

@@BritishLifeSafetySystems I know i still have a Carter CS8 in my garden, sadly it wasn't used for a long moment, the motor is probably dead and the grass started to grow inside it, but i think the store where i bought it was illegal, it is supposed to have a higher price but in Nikolaevsk, you can find stores like this where prices are lowed down, i bought it for almost 4,000 ₽, Рублей.

@@CycloneJoey518 It most likely has its original controls which have a timer (against) that starts when the siren began to run down and it holds the dampers open for a predetermined time before they shut.

@@someboi7308 all external sirens (Camels Head, Keyham, Bull Point and Torpoint) have cages to stop them being vandalised and to stop them being stolen for example

No, Devonport is an area in Plymouth and Plymouth is in Devon, the base in Hampshire is HMNB Portsmouth

@@BritishLifeSafetySystems but apparently even when the Carstairs ones go off for real they don't do attack, its just either a constant all clear or a repetitive all clear like in the tests. I can't remember exactly which one the guy told me it was but he witnessed them going off for real many years ago.... 🔉

@@BritishLifeSafetySystems I do notice that (the loudness imbalance between the hi and low tones), but what I'm referring to is that the fast warbling that changes with the motor speed. Most noticeable when the siren is at full speed and you can hear it vibrating 50 times a second.
