Aussie Punks from Melbourne Australia raise money to help build school for Hmong Village children
HMONG Man & His Students Helped by Aussie PUNKS | Now in Lao
We return to the little Hmong Village of Nong Por to visit a Hmong English teacher there who gives up all his free time to teach the Hmong students.
Many Hmong children wish to learn English but just recently he has had to turn some away as he can no longer accommodate them all in his small makeshift classroom at the front of a farm house. My son Julian was inspired by what Tsua is doing for the village children and decided to hold a gig for the Punk community in Melbourne to raise money so Tsua can build a proper classroom to help the children become better educated.

not to ask a totally stupid question, but Why doesn't the village school let him use the public facilities rather than build a new? If resources are scarce, does it make sense to duplicate facilities? Maybe invest in other resources like computers or paying himself and/or a staff? Just my thinking out loud... cheers! ron:)
@NowinLao
@NowinLao Год назад
Hi Ron.. I know what you're saying, but Tsua is not connected to the school at all. He teaches the children just to help improve their chances at a better future. He still farm's through the week and then teaches the village children on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings free of charge. The school has nothing do do with the lessons he provides.
@rfpeace
@rfpeace Год назад
@@NowinLao I hear you mate, and that's really my point. If they have community schools that are not private, especially if his scheduling doesn't conflict, he should be connected? I'm just thinking like an engineer, trying to maximize everything possible. I've personally had a lot of experience dealing with NGO's in Thailand and Cambodia while I was still working in healthcare (RN, ER., PICU.) I've done many volunteering missions/vacations, and one of my immediate observations were the duplications of similar/or same resources. If different agencies/departments/organizations put more effort into organizing and /or collaboration rather than "from the ground up", a new campaign's, many impractical redundancies might stretch resources further (possibly?) I've never traveled to Lao, nor do I KNOW ANYTHING about Laos' education system. Perhaps building a proper classroom would serve his community best? On a totally positive note; I'm super happy to see the higher ratio of girl students (in fact on that day the ladies seemed to be the majority?) That's usually not the case the further rural you go! Suggestions aside, I think it's great what this young man is doing, and your efforts to support him serve us all! cheers mate! ron:)
@NowinLao
@NowinLao Год назад
@@rfpeace you're right, it would make sense to use something that is there already, but can you give me an example of where this happens? Do government schools in the west let private citizens /organisation's use their buildings for free? Is this what they do in Thailand and Cambodia where you have experience? I totally agree with you but if these people aren't on the payroll they're going to have to pay somebody to open up the school ALL weekend EVERY weekend of the year. I'm pretty sure this isn't just a Lao thing, I've never experienced government facilities giving free access to their buildings without a cost or somebody there to let them in 🤔
@rfpeace
@rfpeace Год назад
@@NowinLaoTodd if something I've said rubs you the wrong way, or I've insulted, or belittled Lao Please accept my sincerest apologies. My aim is, and was, never to do anything other than attempt to be helpful! I've honestly never even considered the physical logistics involved in something so simple as using a classroom, and perhaps I'm totally out of touch with what's normal in Lao/the World? Now I'm really getting pretty far from my personal wheelhouse, but (and I'm not entirely sure why this has relevance and/or is productive to the point I have obviously failed to make) "Do government schools in the west let private citizens /organization's use their buildings for free?", Yes. For free, I personally do not know, but other people have told me that there was no charge for their 12-step programs to meet. Apparently, most 12-step programs will frequently use classrooms at both private and public schools, colleges, community centers, and churches. Additionally, I know my old high school allows English as a second language classes to be held during evenings and weekends. I believe these particular classes are sponsored by the county, and thus the instructors are most likely temporary county employees, although some are volunteers (Bilingual college students earning extra credit, I did something very similar during my nursing school)? Now if you were to approach the City, or County for permission as a "not for profit" organization, I'm confident (but I've been very incorrect in the past also) arrangements could be made. Todd, please don't take anything I've said as a condemnation of you, Tsua, or the Lao government/ the Lao people. My only point here is to attempt to suggest a way that might improve resource allocation from redundancies. Maximizing Mr. Tsua's efforts while stretching what ever monetary assets he may be able to generate for the cause. And if this was a completely unheard of practice, I'm simply positing this would be a possibly useful change from the norm? You know, the whole "be the change you seek" thing! As I said before, what do I know? Well one thing I do know because of you and Neenee's efforts is as soon as our world stops being so silly and airfares get back to where they should be, I would love to come see Lao and visit you and your lovely wife. You get to live in a very beautiful place sir. cheers mate! ron:)
