I remember one time an old white guy pulled me aside and asked if I was Hmong. I told him yes. He said I just want to thank you- your people saved me during the Vietnam War. He said a lot of Hmong soldiers (barely trained) were sent to retrieved lost American soldiers in the jungles. Said Hmong people were one of the best fighters he knew. They were quick and smart and even though they were usually outnumbered, would find a way to will through. So even though our contribution isn't officially recognized by the American Government, just know that the soldiers who fought do know our sacrifices.
The battle in your song is because your country you want to occupy Vietnam, we do territory. The hero in the history of worshiping me is to protect the water, and you are to turn us a slave. For us it is a major war, with you is meaningless
@@sinhgiangseo3187 and helping the communist vietnamese kill your own hmong people didn't get you anywhere. Look at you hmong black/red still poor living out in vietnam's countryside farming, doing hardlabor for cheap money, reading and writting in our hmong green/white dialects that we hmong laos established. You vietnam hmong were the ones who didn't crave freedom.
When I was 6 years old... my uncle always told me... “I’m doing this to protect us” I never really understand what he was talking about because I was 6 at that time. My uncle is always getting beat up and beating up others and hanging out with the wrong people. I still didn’t understand... but now that I have listen to this... I finally understand... when he said to protect us ... he meant to protect our Hmong people... because our block was full of Hmong people (Fresno) Black folks, Mexicans, and Others always bullying the weak (us) trying to take over our block... forcing us to leave... I finally understand... he his now gone due to a drive by, by them black folks.. Fly high Uncle I love you man❤️
To All Asians, especially Hmong people: BLACK PEOPLE ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS! DO NOT WASTE YOUR EFFORT BEFRIENDING THEM OR PROTESTING ALONGSIDE THEM. THEY HATE YOU AND WANT YOU DEAD.
You are a truly Hmong Blood. You bring the smile in our face when we listen to your music bc you really know what you singing about. You know your history and your PRIDE for your people shows. My husband and I are in my forties and every time we listen to any of your songs it is very meaningful to the heart. GOD BLESS YOU for being so intelligent in your lyrics. Continue on with your music because you are very talented at what you do. We will continue to support you. Thanks for your music.
Shong Lee is the most gifted Hmong artist of all time, and in my opinion one of the greatest rappers ever in any language. His lyricism and talent and work and passion are on full display in this masterpiece. Hmong pride til the day we die

LYRIC TRANS: Ever since a long time ago up until this time, us Hmong have always used all our strength to escape war. Because of the fact that 40 years ago the Americans arrived and asked us to use our strength and energy to fight with them in the war. If we did, they would pull us each one by one to lead and become leaders. Because of the fact that us Hmong were poor and wanting, the oldest, the youngest, the smartest, the dumbest carried their own guns. On day 1, [they] went to the fields to practice (test) their guns. Shots, loud [imitating gun sounds]…???...so loud like they’ve never heard before, [their] ears became deaf. [They] learned (practiced) for one weekend and [they] actually became good and could shoot straight. The Americans said, “Wake up early tomorrow and prepare to go fight the enemy.” When [they] reached [returned] home, [their] mothers and fathers had already prepared offerings and chickens to speak blessings and tie hands [with white strings]. They said, “Son, if you disappear because of the ways of war and destruction, please know and remember that your place of sleep and your house [home], it will still remain right here. If [we] don’t see you return, just show up in our dreams and that will suffice (be enough), ok?” The ones that had wife and children, they said, “Dear Mai Paj, please don’t stay and wait for me anymore, ok? Because at this time,…???...about to go with (Leader) General Vang Pao to fight the war. [I] don’t know if in this lifetime [I] will have the luck/fate to return and be with you (by your side). If you stay to wait and don’t see me return, take the children and you all run [away], ok?” In the time of war and destruction, …???...it was in fact (difficult?) ….So many of us Hmong did die but [when] we killed the enemy, we killed the most. Because of the fact that the Americans fought and couldn’t (didn’t) win, they dropped (everything) and flew (away) and just left us Hmong behind for the enemy to kill, [they] almost killed us all. Therefore we took heart (courage) to cross the Mekong River. In Thailand, we followed General Vang Pao so we could reach the land of America. Therefore, we did arrive. Back when we first arrived, [we] did help and love [each other], smiling (laughing) every day and (playing) ball every day. Because of the fact that black people started trouble, us Hmong started a gang to beat up (take vengeance on) blacks, Hispanics, and whites. That gang had a name called Peace MOD. Don’t know why afterwards, it broke up into three groups: so there was Ruthless, so there was AC, so there was MOD [don’t know if I got the names right]. Because of this, [we] began to see child (youth) gangsters …???... fight (vicious hatred on) each other at the tournaments. Back then, [Hmong] mothers and fathers were fobby and followed strict cultural rules/stigmas. [Hmong] daughters wanted to do things but [mothers and fathers] wouldn’t let and they wouldn’t allow. Our daughters, therefore, carried (developed) a (rebellious) mindset; they would jump out the windows when it was night. Mothers and fathers didn’t like this (behavior) so they forced them to marry others’ sons. When you think (reflect) about it (later), lives were broken because of taking flight (rebellion?). Because at that time, we (our brains?) were still young and we (our brains?) were still pure. ????...[we were just kids] just 14, 15, 16, at the most, probably just 17. But at this time, us Hmong have changed a lot. We are not like we were back then. The ones that have completed (becoming) doctors and lawyers, [we] do have. The ones that have money and riches, …???... and have become addicted to drugs and medicine, [we] do have. The ones that don’t do anything, laughing, on (using) SSI all the time, [we] do have. The ones that gangbang until the day they die, jailed up, [we] do have. The ones that work for the American government, [we] do have. Family, brothers, sisters, the poor ways were 40 years ago; don’t despair and don’t cry. Please wipe your tears. My name is Shong. This tale (story) is a tale that is very true about our Hmong people. END _____________________ I attempted English translations. I tried to stay true to each word that was spoken so the lyrics can still keep the original nuanced Hmong language. It's not perfect but let me know what I should change. NOTES: "[ ]" - added information for clarity or enhancing meaning "( )" - additional meaning "???" - I couldn't understand because it was too fast or because I didn't know the word/phrase
I am a black American Woman and I can't stand how my own race act towards their own race, family even other people. I am highly angry about that because that makes me look bad. I love hmong males and I love their voice when they sing about positive stuff. It's very sad to hear and read what hmongs had to go thru and probably still is going thru crap. I always wanted and still would love to be with a hmong male to this day. I would love to know how to speak and write their language. God Bless all hmongs, may The Lord protect you, heal you and lead you all to the right path. I would love to hear a english version of this song.
@@MsVang-xm5et : i care and love all people to but i'm an african american female looking to be with a hmong american male that's single and looking for a serious relationship in the state of minnesota. i am not a racist person but i am against bad things people do, no matter what skin color or nationality.
I don’t know how I haven’t found this song sooner, but I’m proud to say kuv yoj hmoob. And I’m serving this country as a US Marine. Such a great and touching song.
Ey.. David yang u said if its not u den its vuepeter.... No offense bro but SHONG LEE..... Is HMOOB's BEST rapper....... Always giving me chills n goose buumbs wen i listen to Shong Lee's musik.... hilurrz
biggnoogda David And Vue Peter are both jokes I mean some good music but to claim ur the best Hmong rapper ima have to give it to shong little few songs that actually make sense
Shong Lee still hands down the best Hmong rapper. He actually raps about something meaningful and not just girls, money, partying, and haters. Tell a story! There are stories everywhere!!!
hmoobmeeka can’t say the kids now and days can’t speak Hmong, when Hmong people can’t live together. Hmong people can’t even go anywhere without see each other and trying to kill one another. Why don’t you do your part and teach our newer generation, how to speak Hmong. Oh wait you can’t because your just like any older Hmong person, who just talks shit and speaks down on the newer generation, without trying to make a difference.
Thank You Xyoob for reminding me of who I am, I'm currently going through something and this made me realize how important our Hmoob people really are. The Keeb Kwm of peb cov Hmoob neej hab tsev neeg thaum 40 xyoo dlhau lug lawm. Thank You Xyoob Lis I'll never forget this
It's been 20 years since I've listened to Hmong music, and you, young man, have AMAZING talent! So well spoken, so thoughtful and gives us hope that Hmong will never be forgotten. You are crazy good! One of the few that I would pay to see perform LIVE! Keep up the good work!
Wow! Bro...I’m speechless. I’m 38 years old and I’ve been through it all...no hmoob artist has ever made me turn my head so mad props to you bro You got my attention and support. #hmongpride
Honestly tho, do other people really care to know? I would love for people to ask. Even our own young people don’t care to learn about our history. It’s sad.
Damn🔥🔥🔥 Shong Lee tearing it up again. Love it that his music isn’t always about drugs, money, women, and violence. Always a story that anyone young and old can relate to. Keep it going bro. Hard not to support your music.
Hmong Lee rock.. This is the 21th centuries of True Hmong Rap Song!!! We Are Hmong Don't Forget. You're very inspiration to all of us hmong people and keep doing what you do bro.
I got to see him LIVE in MN during the 2019 J4 tourney. I was at the concert on Friday for Dang Thao and friends as well as Saturday for Shong and Sudden Rush. That's like 15+ acts on stage. Dude was hands down the LIVEST PERFORMANCE of them all. His confident intensity and stage presence held the attention of everybody in the venue while he was performing, but I was most impressed by the fact that dude can really rap that fast LIVE while covering the entire stage and anunciate every single word for you to hear. He must run alot. =D Come to NC New Year, bro! We'd love to have you! Much love!
Hands down the best Hmong Rapper out there! I don’t listen to Hmong music out there lightly or at all, but you Shong Lee, I will listen to any day and anytime.
Im so sad of how much these artist speak the realistic of Hmong in their song but it dont seem to teach our Hmong people enough to rethink about their action! Its upsetting to see our Hmong people continue killing their own kind and yet it cant seem to sink into people head that we have struggle long enough. RIP BROTHER XYY LEE
shong lee this song really touch my heart because I never learn of our hmong life in Laos until my teacher teach me about how hard our hmong people went though
Real talk most rappers make songs for the week. You my brother make songs for ALL TIMES. Got all your songs on playlist for all situations. Replay value 11/10! Keep it up!
This song honestly made me SO EMOTIONAL. Thank you for conveying our history so well. I want to translate this for my younger siblings and cousins who can’t understand.
I don't speak the language, but I could tell the passion behind the lyrics and I vibed heavily with it. I really liked the beat and the flow, I just wish I could fully appreciate the song by knowing the lyrics.
Not the full lyrics I've tried to capture the essence of it here: “Since the beginning of time we Hmong have always known war. It’s been 40 years since the Americans came and recruited us to fight in the war. If we did, they promised a better life for us all. Because we Hmong were poor and desparate, the old, the young, the sharp and the ignorant each carried a rifle for the cause. Soon after we became soldiers the Americans said, Wake up early tomorrow and prepare to fight the enemy. Back at home, parents prayed, sent us off and said, Son wherever you go, remember that your bed and home are still here; if we don’t see you return then at least visit us in our dreams and that’ll be enough… Husbands told their wives, Please don’t wait for me; the country is at war; I don’t know if in this lifetime I will be lucky enough to see you again; if you don’t see me return then please take the children and leave… War is hell, so many of us died fighting but we got those bastards too. Then the Americans left, abandoned our people who nearly got wiped out, until we crossed the Mekong to Thailand, following the General to the US. When we first arrived we were a tight knit community, but our children were bullied by the blacks, mexicans and whites, so then we formed a gang to protect each other. They went by the name Peace MOB, but then somehow they splintered into three groups; that’s when you started seeing Hmong fighting each other… Back then our parents were very backwards, they did not give our sisters any freedom; when the girls snuck out at night to hang out with boys, their parents felt disgraced and forced them to marry. But these marriages just ruined the lives of our youth barely 14, 15, 16, at most 17 years old. But now we Hmong have changed much compared to the past. Those with doctorates and who are lawyers, we’ve got them. Those who’ve made a lot of money pushing drugs - we got those too. Those who don't do anything and just live off government assistance - got those. Gangsters who gon’ keep thugging til the day they die in jail - got those too. Those working in the US for the government - got those too. Brothers and sisters, let's leave behind the hard times of the past 40 years. Don’t despair, shed your tears. My name is Shong. This is a true story about us Hmong.”
All I know is there are still good people out there and there are many places and things in this world that are beautiful. Of course not everything is beautiful. Everything has to die. Death is not in our control. If a flower is meant to wither by the start of winter, it will die. But there will be a birth of a new flower in the coming spring. It’s just how Life is. It’s a cycle. It’s a balance. As well as a heaven and a hell.
Hmong Shaman Hmong Christian LOL stfu troll. Quit your preaching. There are times when to be prideful and when not to, Just like anything else. There’s a balance and certain level of pride you should have during certain situations. Not saying to be all arrogant and cocky because we’re Hmong, but to be proud of who we are and where we came from because many young Hmong kids nowadays are losing their identity because of certain social influence to becoming black, Caucasian, or Korean etc. THIS is shong Lee’s message, you’re stretching it to another level of pride similar to that old fobby “Asian pride” music video. And of course stay humble at all times but never sit quiet and get taken advantage of when trouble comes.
this song makes me cry ... im the oldest of my cousins on my mom's side and i can greatly see our culture disappearing and they dont know the history of our hmong people . i have a son and i want to teach him our history and culture especially since our grandparents went through it all
Omg Shong, I love your music, the lyric, the flow, the voice, the delivery, man everything about it! I thank you for this brief and sad but yet inspiring song and history behind it. You sir are very talented and very passionate toward your music. Keep up the good work brother. Hmong always. Wish you the best and you will always have a supporter no matter what! 👍
Almost made me cry. I like the part he said about parents being strict on the grls. Hits hard bc my parents were like that. Hmong pple, please stop with the gender stereotype.
