Commander British Forces has said he is proud to have HMS Diamond at the Naval Base.
Commodore Tom Guy has described it as a great demonstration of the utility of Gibraltar.
HMS Diamond has just returned from the Middle East where she has been part of an operation to secure commercial shipping in the Red Sea, following attacks by Houthi Rebels in Yemen.
The ship was visited by the Chief Minister today, who said the ship's presence was an example of how important Gibraltar can be in such a volatile world.

✌️🇬🇮✌️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧❤️ My father enjoyed your hospitality many times on precious shore leave from the Royal Navy during the Second World War when serving on Malta convoys and those to South Africa and Britain. Semper Fidelis. 👍🏻🇬🇧

Thanks for that. It looked warm there. Very comfortable weather. I am gritting my teeth with jealousy . Gibraltar - beautiful British name.

It is clearly not cost effective to continue to use Sea Viper to shoot down drones, but to some degree it might be good practice.

The anti air soft ware for the 4.5 gun was not updatesd as the politicians did not see a need.

There should be at least 15 type 45s instead of 6. Also using million pound missiles to shoot down cheap drones is insane.

Yep its insane, but its better than them getting through. Tech will emerge in no time to counter drones, people aren't ignoring this now.

First time any royal navy ship has fired in anger in 30 years. We simply have not needed a large number of ships for a very long time.

Why not re-arm in Bahrain ...... or Cyprus perhaps? Finding a place to re-load vertical stack missiles is a constraint on the activities of these vessels.

the royal navy wants to make sure the missiles are stored safely, and they'd rather trust their own territories than elsewhere

Security. Lots of unfriendly and some friendly states would like a chance to get a close up view of her missiles.

Storage.Only The Rock has secure storage facilities dating back to WW2. There bomb proof and are still solid today.

So if the RN is gearing up to patrol the South China Sea, not the best system if you can't replenish at sea. Essentially the strike group could only stay ini theatre whilst the escorts have missiles and then any war would be over ahahah

Lol sea vipers to knock down drones! Ridiculous! Unaffordable! The UK does not have a proportionate defence mechanism against these sorts of drones, I mean we are not talking reaper type drones here we’re talking about $50k bits of kit.

They are trying to remedy this with sea ceptor cells. Far cheaper.
@drjojo4624
@drjojo4624 4 месяца назад
That’s why there is a type 22 with Sea Ceptor out there now. They’re a fraction of the cost of sea vipers.
