HO Scale Mt-4 4-8-2 Southern Pacific Daylight Athearn Genesis Product Review 

Very impressive and well detailed Southern Pacific mt 4 class locomotive model, I really hope that Athearn Genesis produces a new release of this mt4 class locomotive in the future, the daylight paint scheme on the tender presents an interesting appearance as they were used in passenger service operations.

One of my favorite steam locomotive models, runs well with excellent detail.

Excellent Review! Just purchased mine after seeing this, 4352 is the cover picture for my SP San Joaquin Valley Line book that I've had forever.

I just ordered one of these for myself, one thing I thought was cool which I don't think you mention here is that you can actually run the sound equipped models on DC track and the locomotive will still play a limited selection of sounds(whistle, bell, and coupler slack) in addition to chuffing using an included remote control. - I found all this information on Athearn's site, unfortunately it doesn't seem like there are any videos on RU-vid explaining or demonstrating this feature at all. This is really nice for me, because I'm actually mainly an N Scaler, and I don't even have a DCC controller yet, so it's nice that I can still run this with sound on some snap track without having to get a 200$ controller and learning a whole new method of control.

Does any one notice the big phillips screw head on the side of the 1st big leading driver wheel ?

I might have to see if I can find one of these, I just bought a set of eight sp passenger cars for $80, at the hobby store I go to & need and engine for them.

Excellent review! I've been wanting one of Athearn's new MT-4s. Trying to save up for one and a few passenger cars for it. The price kills me though.

Good review of a nice engine. Just to be Mr. Picky: the coupled drivers are cast wheels, the main driver is a fabricated "Boxpok" item (pronounced "box-spoke") I notice a few comments regarding the price... For about $100 more you get into MTH or BLI Big Boy territory. Not much use to the die-hard S.P. Fan such as yourself though Dan!

So you said that it picks up on all drivers... Does this mean that they got rid of the traction tire that the first run engines had? I hope so, as I've never liked traction tires. Thanks, NOM

Since there is no Gs4 SP Daylight, this can be a good subsitute for this BLI/MTH Southern Pacific lines passenger cars. lolI want to get this locomotive because it has that "unique" look. Is this a good locomotive, is there anything I should know about? But why did you give this one a high score compare to other Mt-4 4349?

I dont know why they call couplers on this locomotive scale they are no where close to scale unless your talking about Sergent couplers those are scale couplers
