I've recently purchased 9 Proto UP coaches for my BLI FEF. I dont have 844 (actually a grayhound). They make a gorgeous train. I wasnt looking for exact prototypical accuracy. I got the FEF on crazy special so its mostly for fun and eventually I'll have a full grayhound overland train but those coaches are few and far between. But eh fun of the hobby is also sometime the search. Beautiful collection my friend!

If you are going to hit the brass market for the business cars, I would wait, Broadway limited is doing a run of the Up business cars with different road numbers

You’re absolutely right. I can’t wait for those to be released. I listened to a Podcast this morning with one of the BLI employees and they mentioned that they may have a couple of the power cars in the works. Those would be considered if the business cars do well. So hopefully that will be a thing. Thank you for watching!

Wow that's quite the haul of UP heritage equipment! I got a train show in Lincoln, NE coming up so yeah. Also recently I completed a custom make of UPP 5817 "Pony Express" baggage and it turned out quite nicely, I now have plans to most likely custom built UP sleeper Omaha, Portala and many more!

I was blown away by how much was in the box and also surprised it all came in at once! I didn’t expect the E9s till later this year. That’s cool dude that you built a custom car. I would really like to get into making some custom stuff since everything that is not mass produced in plastic is so expensive. I would like to start off with the Lynn Nystrom. That would be a forgiving model to build. I’d like to see your “Pony Express” model, that would be cool to see! Thank you for watching too!

@@modelrailroadingthesouthwest yup I might make a video on it, I'm not quite sure yet but if you want to get into getting custom UP passenger cars you might want to talk to Harry Haythorne Because he's the one who makes just about every custom UP passenger car that is in the heritage fleet that isn't produced by any manufacturers.

Consider me subscribed following this incredible video! Personally, I've elected to model the 2021 Big Boy excursion consist, and am only three cars away from completing it. I managed to snag a custom built Lynn Nystrom and similar baggage car from eBay, so I can help you out with the spare car, if you like. As far as having trouble with speed-matching the E-Units, after I ran the trio in, I didn't have that problem, so, I'm rather intrigued as to why you had that predicament; perhaps speed-matching with the Athearn Centennial may be a factor, but if the three E-Units did not speed-match with one another, I'm genuinely curious as to how and why! Love seeing the FEF from Broadway; a smidge frustrated that I decided to pass on it, but have been keeping an eye out for one to join my BLI #4014 in April. Look forward to seeing more from your channel!

Thank you I really do appreciate that! That’s cool, I like the 2021 excursion. Nice cars in that one. That was lucky to find that Lynn Nystrom. As for the E9s. I broke them in for a bit. I then tried running them all together and found that the B unit was running much slower than the two A units. One of the A units was running slower than the other A. I started speed matching the fast A unit to the Centennial. That was a little difficult but it worked out. So then I started speed matching the already speed matched A unit with the B unit. That was okay. They were perfect. I then started speed matching the last A unit to the speed matched A and B unit. I then set all the road numbers to the decoder addresses. After I finished speed matching all the units I lashed them all up and something changed with in the time of setting the addresses. I don’t know what occurred but they were all out of sync. I reset them to factory settings because something just did not seem right. I then had to speed match them again. I’ve never had that issue before. It must have been a fluke. I have speed matched a ton of locomotives and never ran across this issue. I’m not blaming the manufacturer or decoder, I think something just went wrong somehow or another. They run great now. No issues. The BLI FEF is great. I hope they do another run. I want to get a regular FEF. Thank you choosing to subscribe to my channel! I hope you enjoy my future content.

@modelrailroadingthesouthwest Thank you for such a fun video! It's great to see people doing what this hobby is all about, and that's having fun with it! It's odd that the units would give you such trouble with speed matching, considering all three are practically the same under the hood, but, it does make for an interesting story to tell! I look forward to all the new things coming from you and your channel as time goes on!

I have the same E-9's ....... what CV values did you use to speed match them together ????
@modelrailroadingthesouthwest
@modelrailroadingthesouthwest 6 месяцев назад
This is what I have. These are set to run with my Athearn Genesis DDA40X. Keep in mind that results may vary due to motor and drive train. You may need to modify some of the CV values. Were your models not in sync with each other? #949 CV2 to value of 7 CV3 to value of 23 CV4 to value of 21 CV6 to value of 141 #963 CV2 to value of 6 CV3 to value of 23 CV4 to value of 21 CV6 to value of 142 #951 CV2 to value of 7 CV3 to value of 23 CV4 to value of 21 CV6 to value of 142

May I ask how you got 8444 speed matched with 844? I have an Athearn Genesis SD70M (tsunami 2) that just won’t pair up with my 4014 or 844 (Paragon4).
@modelrailroadingthesouthwest
@modelrailroadingthesouthwest 5 месяцев назад
Actually speed matched all my BLI locos to my Athearn and ScaleTrains locos. I can give you the CV values to my athearn engines but they vary from new Athearn to old athearn. The same with Scale trains. This is what I have for most Athearn models. CV 3&4 to 26 BLI Big Boy: CV 3 to 70 CV 4 to 118 CV 5 to 250 CV 6 to 122 CV 2 to 0 BLI 844 CV 4 to 30 CV 5 to 250 CV 6 to 129 Results may vary from engine to engine. This could be a starting point. I would set up the diesel to run exactly how you want it to run. Then I would suggest running your steam and diesel together and adjust CV 6 to match the speed of the diesel. Always set CV 5 to the maximum value then set CV 6 to about half and then you can play with CV 6 to match the speed of the diesel. You may need to set CV 3 and CV 4 to adjust acceleration and deceleration. It takes some time so don’t be discouraged. If you have any questions please reach out to me. I’m always happy to help.

@joeycarroll2644
@joeycarroll2644 6 месяцев назад
@@modelrailroadingthesouthwest yeah. i know you got one by mistake. they have one car that walthers closely represents. it last wore the name “western star” i believe before getting the flag. it is a gym and one of their most used cars. the other one is the council bluffs, and is a shorter car more like the lynn nystrom. the spotting feature is the trucks the gym car has the 6 axle trucks and the council bluffs has 4 axle trucks. If you just get replacement trucks for one you will be going above and beyond a lot of people 😂 will also be easier to tell the two apart. the other two could be very useful by getting some new sides online and switching them out. could build the pony express or 2055 power car. also the cabarton sleeper became the willie james in 2009, so those two are also the same not sure if you knew.
@modelrailroadingthesouthwest
@modelrailroadingthesouthwest 6 месяцев назад
@@joeycarroll2644 I see what you mean. So I purposely bought all of those flag graphics cars. One I am going to put the Presidential Seal on it to run a Bush Funeral Train. I want to try to remove two doors and put a casket with a flag draped over it inside the car. I have an MTH O scale version of this and I would like to try to make an HO version. If I can find the MTH HO scale model at a reasonable price, I will buy that one and not ruin this one. The other I want to attempt to cut the doors to represent the open top part of the doors and place some people in them. So that way I can have three different cars for different trains. As for the Willie James and the Cabarton, at the time of preordering I was thinking of building different excursion trains with older and newer equipment depending on the time period that the trains were ran. So I was going to get the Promontory and the Council bluffs without the graphics to simulate and older time periods. I had scrapped the idea and I had thought I had removed them from the order. I ended up receiving the Cabarton and the Council Bluffs without the graphics anyway.
