Got back to metal detect the yard of the 1950's hoarder house and more of the same. All kinds of oddball relics and I was on the trail of dropped silver coins from this old hoarder, including an amazing spill all in one hole that I was able to salvage a live dig out of, although a little shaky.
I originally tracked down this property because of a church next door. All the original land from the church is now covered in asphalt, but there is this nice plot of land next to it that' I'm detecting on. This plot was owned by a real hoarder somewhere around the 1940's - 1970's era. The church bought his land when he died and covered up all his "stuff" with dirt that littered the yard. Now I am the first one in almost 50 years to let some of the hoarder's treasures see the light of day again. Let's see what comes out this time.....

Watching you dig up that big piece, round metal , reminded me how my love for detecting started. Many years ago, mom and dad had a detector and would bring it to an old Indian Mill in Ohio where us kids would swim and we would picnic on a blanket. One weekend dad “hit” on something in an old dry creek bed. It was a strong signal. He started digging and digging, the circumference of the hole was almost 4 ft square. He just knew he had found a trunk! As us kids got excited, he kept digging, 3 ft down, a group of people gathered. Men offered to jump in the hole and help. They would take turns. Everyone wanted to be a part in bringing up the treasure chest. Finally someone hit something solid and metal. Dad made everyone get out and he jumped in. After all, it was “his treasure” and he wanted to pull it free. What started out as a family of 7 on a picnic, turned into a crowd of almost 20 people, all talking, laughing and encouraging dad to “be careful “ as to not damage this treasure, but to “dig faster” After what seemed like forever, but was most likely about 15 minutes, he was able to get his hands on the “handle” and started pulling with all his strength. As It finally came free, dad flew backwards with his treasure landing in his lap. An old rusty BBQ GRATE! 🤣🤣 we all had a great laugh, and from then on, I vowed to “one day find dads treasure for him” He is gone now, but I will not give up looking for “his treasure”

Great hunt. There's nothing better than pulling silver out of a hole and then getting more signals. Congrats!!

It is the hobby of champions. Well, ok that might be overstating it a bit, but it is fun to see what interesting and sometimes valuable objects are below your feet. Don't know if you still have your detector or not but give it a shot on a free day and see what happens. Warning though, it gets addicting fast! Best of luck out there.

Thanks Dave. The landowner is gonna have to start paying me for all this trash removal I'm doing! Lol. The silver coins are really starting to show up though. Got 6 this week out of this yard, all 40's and 50's. Not that I'm complaining but I miss my 1800's items so I'm gonna move on to another site for now. I'll save this place for a rainy day or when a friend wants to find interesting stuff. Take care buddy

You sure got a mix of finds that time! That item that resembled a putter reminds me of the old wing window opener from an old car. It would make sense as you have so many other small car parts as well. A putter wouldn't be open on the top. The piece you thought was a little bell may be a ball button. Loved that coin spill at the start of the video! The bowling pin charm was very random! You never know! Enjoyed the video. Take care!
@QuarterHoarder
@QuarterHoarder 8 лет назад
You are right about the car handle. When it was fresh out of the ground and all dirty I thought it might be a putter but once it was cleaned it seemed more car handle to me too. The coin spill was a great one for me and the bowling pin charm, well, that was just weird! Lol. You just never know what's gonna come out of the ground I guess. Take care Robyn and thanks for stopping by.

Very cool Silver Coin spill. Nice Merc, Rosies and Silver Washington. I believe you got a ball button...very cool. I got a nice complete one. The single blade razor part is very cool. I'm old enough to remember using those. You twist the stem of the razor and it opens up to put in a razor blade with two edges. Great hunt Jason. Enjoyed the video as always. Happy Hunting My Friend

Thanks Johnny. I did research that razor and I understand how it works now. Believe me, I'm no young buck but for some reason I guess I just never had one of those. Thanks for the tip on the ball button too. I've had a few people say the same thing so I guess that's what it is. I thought it was more like a cat's collar bell but I've been wrong plenty of times before. Lol. Thanks again for watching and take care my friend.

Nice sliver haul! Well worth the effort. I hope you have more than that little hand tool for digging. Worth every cent. Keep up the good work.

Thanks buddy. Yes I do have a large Predator Piranha shovel that I use in the woods and farm lands a lot. It can be intimidating though to private land owners when they see that monster. I've found that it makes people more at ease that I'm not gonna destroy the place when they only see the small Lesche. My knees are still doing ok so I don't mind digging it all with the little guy for now. Ask me again in a few years and I might be singing a different tune! Lol. Take care man.

Congrats on the silvers, that was a sweet coin spill. The handle looks like the latch off of a vent window from a car from the 50's or 60's. The razor is like one that I learned to shave with. The handle would unscrew and the top piece would lift off and then a flat double sided razor blade would be fitted between them and the handle replaced. Enjoyed the video Jason.
@QuarterHoarder
@QuarterHoarder 8 лет назад
Thanks Jerry. The razor was really cool. I had to Google how it actually worked but now I get it. When you first start, remember there are no bad sounds. Dig as many of the sounds as you can and you'll start to mentally make a list of what things sound like what. To me it looks like you dug up the remaining items left over from someone's washroom renovation. The big iron plate looks like a sewer pipe cover- the item you called a putter looks like a toilet flush lever and the old razor is what's left of a safety razor- the bottom piece on the handle would unscrew opening the razor up and you'd put a flat bendable razor blade in it. It was a lot safer shaving with it than a straight razor was- although still very dangerous (I know from past experience as I took off many chunks of skin with them).

what you call the "lug nut" and "piece of brass from the leg of a chair" kinda looks like moonshine still parts. Also the "razor" is the end piece of a razor that uses replaceable blades. I might be wrong but I think you"ll think its worth looking into

I don't know if I've dug anything in this yard deeper than 5-6". Really odd since the church that now owns the land said that covered the old hoarder's yard with a layer of dirt when they bought the property in the early 1970's. Normally I would pass on those 2" targets but for some reason everything is really shallow and I can't explain why. Thanks for stopping by and take care buddy.

The big round iron thing is a hot plate from an old cast iron stove.....the holes are where you would take a metal tool and life and move it to put more wood into the stove part then cover it back over and put your pot or pan back on there and start cooking...

the lug nut isn't that, it's a compression fitting for gas pipe or some other plumbing use. Old type brass Compression fittings work the same for water lines, car gas lines and house gas

That bracket looking thing with 3 holes in it is actually half of an old hinge.I found one almost identical to it last year..The ring at the top with the nut looking thing on it looks like it might be from a car gas tank or maybe one or those old jerry cans.

Thanks Digs for the ID help. This yard is so cluttered with items it's a relic hunters dream, if you are a relic hunter from the 40's-50''s. I dug half a car there already so I wouldn't be surprised if that ring is from the gas tank. Appreciate you stopping by and take care my friend.

Last year one of the hustlers on that History Channel pawn shop show tried to sell those double edge razors as an 'improvement' over modern ones. He bragged that they were made in the USA which means they're probably 40+ y.o. (He must have bought a warehouse lot or something) I assumed that everyone else who learned to shave with one laughed like I did because they suck. They were quickly supplanted in the marketplace* by numerous disposables because the plastic holds the blade much more securely. The razor blades in those vibrate when you use them and give a much rougher shave. *First was Wilkinson Sword, then Trac II, then dozens more.
@QuarterHoarder
@QuarterHoarder 6 лет назад
They actually still make them. I bought one a few months ago to try it but it was really rough on my face so I won't be using it again. I did feel nostalgic though as it was cutting my face all up! Lol.
