When Dawn the Minimal Mom asked me to join her in her January series of decluttering and organizing, I jumped up with excitement! This week we were tackling clothes and I knew in my heart that I could Declutter a lot more than my previous KonMari Method videos! I also explain how I have to Declutter as a recover hoarder! We must make emotional decisions to let go of things because it is an emotional attachment. Logical decision making does not work with emotional issues. By doing that over & over, we have strengthen our decluttering muscles to let go of bigger piles of clothes!

I dread going through my stuff more than anything on earth. And I desperately need to do it. I’ve never, ever had a house that wasn’t dysfunctional and cluttered...let alone a nice comfy space that was actually decorated and I wasn’t too embarrassed to have guests. I’ll be 50 next year and I want to not hate my house for the first time in my life. I have hoarding tendencies and I barely manage to keep my stuff from overtaking the house. I’m pretty sure I have adult ADD or at least focus issues, and that doesn’t help. I can’t wait to watch all your videos, I feel like it will help me to finally get started! Thank you

I watched this with my mom today. I think it gave her the motivation to start her clothing declutter. She is a hoarder however she’s working hard to over come the disorder. I think seeing that I’m able to declutter so easily is helping as well. She said thank you for giving her the motivation she needs to start.

Me too. It’s encouraging to see an actual hoarder work through their disorder. I was raised in a hoarders house, and I’ve learned a lot of that behavior. Sometimes the other decluttering channels don’t really help because I look at my house compared to theirs, and I fell hopeless. It’s nice to see someone in a similar situation make progress

Pulling out your winter clothes in January? Ha, you're a woman after my own heart! I used to live in MI and struggle with item overload and I would do that too. Then I was always sad that I couldn't wear them for that long, as I was emotionally attached to them. I grew up with a mom who ended up being an actual hoarder. Our house was always a mess growing up. I watch the Minimal Mom and you all the time. Between seeing Dawn's clear surfaces all the time and you explaining my thought process - to me!! - I'm finally making progress in my home after many decades on this earth. Dawn said something recently that was very powerful for me. She asked, "Do you want options or do you want freedom?" I walked right over to my coat closet pulled out 2 coats to donate. And you've taught me to start with what's easy to let go. Thanks for making a channel and sharing.

I think from the bottom of my hearth that your are inspirational and you can help a lot of people. I'm so proud of you for your progress. You decluttered so much this time!!!! Clearly, your recovery is doing good, even if you don't force yourself. It's so hopeful for all the ones who are at the same state you were two years ago. It's clearly a long process, but you show that is possible. Thank you so much!! Congratulation again!!! this was huge!! I love how you talk about strengthening your decluttering muscles, and I think you've also strengthened your perspective about what brings you the MOST joy. You're really able to look at an item now and separate the feeling of, it's pretty but I don't really want it, versus oh my gosh this is so sentimental and precious to me. You really know yourself and are so fast at telling which items are your favorites and should be kept. this is also a perfect example of how decluttering for anyone is not "one and done" you can always benefit from going back to a category again and again because you get more in tune with yourself and your emotions over time. great job!

I found you through the Clutter Free January series. I'm not a hoarder, but my grandma was and my partner might be. I wanted to tell you that I was rooting for you throughout the whole video. You really had quite a project and the fact that you went through all of that and shared it publicly is really impressive. I'm sure your channel is helping so many others with hoarding disorder, you should be very proud of yourself! I appreciate your explanation that it is an emotional attachment and so the decision needs to be made from the heart. I really liked how you kept emphasizing "my heart says it's ok to let this go." I also watched your paper declutter video and was equally impressed that you went through all those papers! Thanks for your authenticity. Even though this is one disorder I don't have, your willingness to be honest and vulnerable is very moving and gave me a lot to ponder.

I have a feeling you’re going to help a huge amount of people with this video. It did take me 2 days to click on this video as I’d been glancing at the thumbnail photo and thinking “that’s a ridiculous amount of clothes” THEN saw your channel name and knew there was a lot more to the photo. I’m immensely proud of your progress, and the fact that you shared your skills in HOW you declutter the pile, going easier on the items with more attachment so as to avoid triggering your hoarding tendencies. That strategy may go a long way to help others with their own struggles. I also appreciated that when returning items to bins, they were placed back in neatly and labeled. You’re now creating better systems going forward and your channel is showing others that the same can be done in their home. It IS doable and not as overwhelming as we think it can be - IF we can get into the right headspace. You’re going to help others do that. I’ve been watching Dawn from The Minimal Mom, Cass from Clutterbug & Sarah from Small Changes (Australia) for a long time now and these ladies have really helped me with motivation and strategies to get things done. Originally I did a 30 day house challenge but I think that might not be enough time for someone with hoarding tendencies to mentally get through their space. That’s why your channel may be a much better option. 🙏🏼☀️😊

I was EXACTLY like this with my wardrobe, I had almost 200 graphic tees and I brought that number down to 80 over the past 4 yrs. I made 3 large t-shirt quilts of the shirts that I didnt want to get rid of and then was able to remove the rest as I found what didnt fit, what didnt feel good having anymore and what was trashed and not wearable anymore. Once your home is more recovered you could do a series helping other people, like Living with Cambria RU-vid channel does. I really think you can understand since it’s something you struggle with too.

That is absolutely awesome. I went through a traumatic change in my life where I got out of the military and then had to leave my abusive husband with nothing but what me and my 2 kids were wearing and your right people gave me clothes left and right and I ended up filling a bedroom full of clothes for me and my kids and when I moved into my own home it was hard to let go because it reminded me of all that I had made it through and I was also afraid of never getting more clothes. It was crazy but when I let things go I felt more free. Now I have a 1 in and 1 out system that I follow and my kids when they get things that are to big they go in a bin for them to wear when they can fit in them and I only buy a couple new things a year for them just so they know how it feels to have new things as well as accepting hand me downs. It took me 5 years to get to this point but I'm so glad I did and soooooooo proud of the progress you have made

I'm soooo proud of you!!! This video ~ and the one today on paper clutter (which is my first time coming across your channel!) ~ are very inspirational to me! I do not have hoarding disorder, but have *always* struggled with feeling I needed to keep my footprint small, in any living situation I've ever been in. So... it's like I've had a foot in both worlds ~ wanting to keep my memorabilia & books & special clothing (& some of my Mama's, who has gone to Heaven) & craft supplies (a definite "heartstrings attached" pile!!) & yet feeling I had to downsize, downsize, downsize & keep myself small! I've gotten rid of many things over the years, some which I still remember and wish I still had! Your videos ~ the ones I've viewed so far ~ have taught me that I'm okay! It's okay to hold onto things I'm not ready to get rid of. *And* I need to decide EMOTIONALLY rather than cognitively. I *love* that! Thank you so very much for being so open with us with your truth! I look forward to seeing more of your videos! P.S. I adore how kind you were being to yourself, talking kindly to yourself, and giving yourself permission to let go, or to hold onto, if even just a little longer! This is such an amazing concept!

Thank you. I've learned a lot from all the ladies here. But you... You were an inspiration. I'm 66 and have always been a natural hoarder. Of everything. I can usually find something I'm looking for in my Piles, but was just telling my husband that I am so very tired of stepping around things. I also have health issues that hinder decluttering a lot at once. However, I'm going to start right now on my t-shirts. I too have a million... so thanks again!

I have watched several of your videos over the past month or so and as someone who only lately has been releasing the extent of my attachment to things and struggle with others who don't understand, your videos help me put words to what I feel and help validate what I feel. Please keep sharing! I'm sure there are others who also need to hear it's okay to feel attached and not let go right now❤️❤️❤️

It’s beautiful how you are sharing your healing journey to help others. You held such gentle and loving space for yourself and I am so proud of you. While I don’t have hoarding disorder, I definitely have too much stuff and some unreasonable emotional attachments and guilt about some of it and I have been on my own decluttering and organizing journey. I am proud of myself too, for the progress i have made recently. Thank you for sharing.

honest and raw look at letting things go. I'm very sentimental about a lot of my clothes, about half of my closet were given to me by friends and family. Thanks!

Ms. Heart, wonderful accomplishment! I started on my sweaters and sweatshirts two days ago and was able to let go of about a third of them. I love me some sweaters! That was difficult but I plan on going through my other clothing to see what I can let go of. I can't do the Konmari all at once method, so I do one drawer or shelf at a time. You have come so far from your first clothing video. I'm so happy that you've allowed us to join you on your journey. I think you are great motivation to everyone!

Well done So proud ...You must feel amazing When my mother past I kept a bag of clothing to make a quilt BUT two years later the bag still sat taking up space and I decided a quilt would only remind me of my loss So I donated the whole lot and a weight lifted from my mind .I have my memories and plenty of photos of my mother.... I don’t need anything else She lives in my heart ❣

Well done. But remember to remove the donation quickly. Maybe you should try the hanger trick. Hang with the hanger placed backwards. Once it’s worn hang normally. End of season what’s still backwards gets donated. It really makes the decision easy.

I did this 1/1/2020 and even though I ended up working from home a large portion of the year and didn’t need to be dressed up all the time, I found many items that could go. If feels so freeing!

You can be so incredibly proud of yourself! I'm binging all your videos right now and you've really made incredible progress! I'm more of a minimalist, but maybe my advice will help you anyway, if it's not suitable for a hoarder, just forget it: Try to imagine how all those t-shirts feel when they're just lying in the basement. It's like they're in a coma. They can neither bring joy and benefit to someone else, nor can they "die". If you don't want to lose the memory, you could take a photo of each piece and create a photo album, maybe even with a little text for each memory.
