These units are miniscule compared to alot of the lost storage units in America. I really enjoy listening to the experts evaluating items. The owners stories are also interesting. The auctions are exciting.

The problem with most hoarders is that in a way they indeed need help and sometimes some ''though love'' ... but you also have to be really carefull because if you push to hard you it can have an oposite effect.

I just figured out what you mean by SKIP I thought it meant to pass by..to skip it...I thought it was strange. In Canada 🇨🇦 we call it a dumpster ( for garbage) lol
@jess1987
@jess1987 3 года назад
Here in Australia, we call them 'skips,' or skip bin as well. An open-top container, which gets loaded onto a lorry.

Ross is so unsympathetic to the obvious distress his wife is feeling in having to deal with the emotions this task is causing. 'Nicky has a storage problem of her own' says the man, who seems to own a room full of guitars and other instruments!! Yet he thinks the stuff in the storage unit is just HER problem. The poor girl has recently lost her mum, and had to care for an elderly aunt - and I bet she got no support from her husband. What a selfish oaf!
@johannas.l.brushane2518
@johannas.l.brushane2518 4 года назад
Or maybe that is supportive, sort of forcing her to deal with it, as compared to keep it un sed in storage that cost money you could do something worthwhile for yourself and family? I don't think that many of the deceased would be offended if they let the stuff go to someone who needsit or want it instead?

I'm sort of perplexed that more than a few in these series store up stuff from deceased familymembers. You typically have a check of it when clearing out their houses so it's not difficult take photos and some sentimental items and then it's easiest to get rid of it there and then. My parents would be grumpy if I kept things just for storage instead of shipping it to some of these second hand stores who often but up whole estates so it could be used by somone needing it or wanting it.
@Peter-pv8xx

For a true hoarder it's not that simple, my best friend is a hoarder and still hasn't delt with his wife's belongings, she committed suicide in 2007, he still has a lot of things from his father and now his mother's, she passed away three years ago, he's paying taxes and utilities on two properties now and what makes it worse his son wants a lot of what his grandmother had so they moved it to my friends house in which every room is filled to the brim as it is, and it's a very big house, the problem is, his son lives in California but his father lives in NJ and he doesn't have his own place so all that stuff will likely sit in his house until dies.
@E.C.Animation
@E.C.Animation 2 года назад
I would think that keeping the deceased person's stuff is easier than getting rid of it for some people because then they have to completely face the fact that person will never be coming back. Ignoring it seems easier to some. Not everyone can just throw out things that once belonged and mattered to that person. I've never had to deal with all the things left after family passed, but I never felt a need to keep anything they had either. Just the stuff they gave me directly before they died since they are heirlooms.

It is unethical for an appraiser to purchase items based on their own appraisal!

If you pay for a storage unit,, doesn’t matter how full it is, it’s still going to cost the same at the end of the day,,,, so might as well make use of it!! 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

Been binge watching a bit. What I notice is that nobody ever mentions WHAT charity things go to, or how much money that charity seems to get, say per episode. Personally, I am rather curious as to that. And I think more people would love to know such details.
@geraldmcmullon2465
@geraldmcmullon2465 4 года назад
A large amount of items taken to charity shops gets taken straight out the back to the skip. If they don't understand what it is, or if they believe there is no market for their typical customers it is dumped. The skip costs a lot of money. Their view on "worth selling" and yours may differ. The best thing to do is advertise it on Facebook Market place, Gumtree and if worth the listing costs eBay. Anything that might have gone to charity you can donate the cash.
@FacelessJanus
@FacelessJanus 4 года назад
@@geraldmcmullon2465 I am not talking about me. I am talking about the show. Definitions tend to differ by any person. What is charity for instance ?? My point is, we do not hear which charity or charities are choosen, nor if they make/made any money due to the show and of so, how much. I would love to hear/see that, and I think many people watching the show would love that as well.
@geraldmcmullon2465

@@FacelessJanus I guess it does not make interesting filming. The auction is the thing and sometimes a car boot sale if you have a character who is somewhat a showman. Real level of decluttering, how much is dumped how much here and there and the cost to do it all does not make for showing on film even as a summary chart at the end.
@johannas.l.brushane2518
@johannas.l.brushane2518 4 года назад
@@FacelessJanus I would guesstimate that they can chose which charity they donate to. Traditionally in Sweden for instance a lot of chairities have their fundings partially trough second hand shops, be it The Red Cross, some of the churches or animal shelters. It's quite popular to shop in them, not only for youngsters just moved to their first housing but also for people looking for vintage stuff from a specific time period.
@Lili-ls7um
@Lili-ls7um 3 года назад
My guess is whatever charity shop is closest. And I don’t think most charities have the man power to keep track of which items sold comes from who. They would have just sorted it depending on types etc, mixed in with the stuff they received from other people.

I know she had a very impressive lot didn’t she! And a lot of money’s worth too! It’s because some was from her mum passing, her dad passing and also she said she had stuff from a great aunt and uncle too, i don’t know about u but when I lose family all I get is lots of grief and bills to pay 😂 it’s nice that her family had nice things and great memories to leave her behind, I had some really nice jewellery myself a fair few years ago but sadly I ended up having to pawn it for money because my kids was all small and I was so skint we needed the money to feed the kids and also to put gas and electricity on our meter too, I used to have that thick type of jewellery not anything like this lovely young lady had, my favourite type of jewellery is what we call gypsy gold over here in the uk, which is thick sold gold (like something a man would wear) but it’s expensive, thankfully none of it had any sentimental value to it as it was just mine that I’d bought when I was younger, BUT although I was sad to see it go for sale, at the end of the day it meant more to me knowing that my kids eating, keeping warm and having electricity on in our home meant a lot more to me to be honest, material things can be replaced, our children are everything to me, they are my reason for living, my whole world, my everything, 😊 ANYWAY 😂 I’m super happy that both couples got quite a big amount of money and I’m sure the money they got will help them out a lot, and the older couple or maybe both couples will have a nice, well deserved holiday some time soon! 😊 sad to let go of the past, especially memories of loved ones, I know this only too well, but thanks god, we all have our memories in our heads and our hearts too, holding on to items because they hold a memory isn’t good for a person especially if it’s a big item! It’s like a constant reminder of the past, and it’s like having a big weight around your neck trying to drown u while u r trying to swim, it’s impossible, I just hope that now they are rid of most of the items that was creating debts for them, due to items being in the storage units and the fact that both couples have made some extra cash has helped them to realise that they don’t need to hold on to items to be able to have the fond memories that they hold in their hearts 💕 xxx God bless to u, Kate 🇬🇧 xxxx
