Nice welder. I am an apprentice. I clicked on the video because I saw the HOBART welder. I am looking for an easy to use welder, good price and a name I can trust. Good review, thanks a bunch.👍👍

I build airframes for a living, I weld mostly 16ga/18ga mild tube. I have a 5yr old MillerMatic 140 (115V), which I use everyday. I started buying .023 solid wire early on, the low volt welder is a lot happier pushing the skinny wire. Now I never switch out the wire, even for heavier gauge jobs..I just dial up the knobs and go to work. I totally recommend .023 for low volt welders, be sure to reverse your wire drive wheel and pick up some small tips.

For those that don't know, Hobart is a sister company of Miller. For a while, many of the Hobart units were shipped out with mig guns stamped "Miller". The Hobart 140 is a very nice machine for a 110V unit.

I almost bought a Hobart. They are good welders. I eventually bought an everlast and have been happy with it. I needed something that could run dual voltage for more power.

Rarely will i need to do 1/4" but happy it will do it in a few passes if needed

Great video. I had either this model or a slight variation of it about a dozen years ago. It was my first welder I purchased, I had borrowed and learned on a buddies model that was a step down, and decided it was something I could do, sold a client that I could build the wrought iron fence she wanted and bought my own. Eventually sold off a lot of my gear years later because I wasn't using it, but I've got to build some wrought iron pieces on my own new home.....and was thinking what model to get, and your video helped make my decision. Great video and I'll be getting my own.... dang I wished I didn't make it a package deal and sold all my welding gear to one of my buddies when I moved. LOL, now I"ll have to break in a new machine and gloves and everything. Keep at it!!!!!

I bought this machine a few years ago to use for a metal art business. I ended up using .030 solid core wire with 90/10 Arg/CO2. Gas. Many welders use 75/25 gas. But 90/10 gas runs a little hotter. So for a smaller machine like this one. It works better for heavier uses.

I love this lil welder myself.. for a 115v machine its a beast, I have seen it weld some very heavy steel, I could not believe my eyes. For flux core a flux core tip is recommended, no build up & you can see so much more. was thinking you had your polarity wrong from the beginning when you said you had problems. Only issue I run into is wire tension settings, I find, mine feeds very well on low tension settings, higher settings result in feed issues. This is a very well made, well working welder, will serve me well for years to come.

I'm no expert either but was thinking the same thing, also beveling the edge to give the puddle a place to go on a multi-pass weld helps too to keep from having a tight weld

This is embarrassing to admit. I've had my 140 for several years now and just realized why I was getting SOOO much spatter when I welded. Polarity was set just like said for flux core and not solid wire. I'm gonna see how much of a difference i get now.

if you clean and preheat 3/16-1/4" material youre golden. my handler 140 has no problem and puts em in there with a single pass if done right! we have a little millermatic 140 at work and this thing blows it away as far as arc force and quality goes. Essentially the only difference between the two machines is that miller has the autoset feature, which is crap and hardly ever works as advertised.

Newer welder here. Why is my wire just blowing off. I can get a weld started but it gets so damn bright so quick my chance to react is a little slow but by the time I do my wire just blows right off and I gotta get it fed back out. Also my wire doesn’t wanna feed everytime I hit the trigger. What’s that about? Any tips would be appreciated! Thanks!

Are you now questioning the durability of your welds on the bumper you just did ? . I would do some passes over the existing welds on that bumper with the corrected polarity just to make sure that wheel doesn't come flying off anytime soon. I my self have a hobart 125ez, but a hobart 140 is in my future. I want the ability to adjust heat and wire speed independently rather than this 125ez where you set your metal thickness and it's automatic... not good to play around with. Also would like the ability to use shielding gas rather than flux cored wire. Good videos, I do enjoy the new welding series and hope to see many more coming. Thanks Matt and Tim

I have a Hobart handler 140, if your doing more than just tack welding or very small projects I would suggest another machine. I built a small bumper pit for my truck, the Hobart 140 couldn't handle it. The pit was 14"D pipe x 24L" X 1/4 steel, I almost didn't finish. But otherwise the welder burns a nice bead just not for very long. 20% duty cycle doesn't get you very far. Small tack welding projects is all I would recommend. I like the machine it works well, just don't expect much weld time. Look for a bigger machine, Hobart makes a good quality machine and is not to pricey.

Do you use a automatic tint mask? My father has this welder and the basic mask doesn't allow me to see anything, also the fluxcore wire with no gas never creates a good weld, it's always popped and bad. Hoping with gas and new wire will make a huge difference.
