as a 17 year old myself, you’re completely right about getting everything easy for a lot of people, but there’s still kids out there working hard for what they love! however phones / social media has really made growing up seem boring because of everything that we can see on these magical devices, oh how i would love to have grown up in the 70s or 80s, going to roller rinks, drive ins, cruising broadway. now it just seems like there’s something missing because of how wrapped up everybody is in their phones. i love these videos you make, im from the crown point area, and am fairly new to exploring but there is just something so intriguing about these buildings and the moments that they’ve captured. keep up with the good vids (and stories)!

this rink was in West Hobart on 6 before I-65 came in. Many a weekend and holiday events there. They also had teams with cool leather jackets with colors. A flaming roller skate on the back.
… I also grew up in a skating rink… R-Way… but I did go many times to the Hobart rink… my buddy took a no parking sign from there, I still hav it ☺️☺️☺️…🛼
You are so right about most kids getting everything easy. I made that mistake with my own kid. It's great to see old memories still around. In my little city they are tearing them down. Keep up the great work!
Used to skate there myself. 1 night, I remember they announced that the organ player, would be his last night. And there would tape recordings of the music he played, on reel to reel. After that it was never the same again.
I bought a couple of pairs of Nike basketball shorts from a guy in Hobart on ebay, I'm about 5925km east of you good folks I'm in Glasgow Scotland, Hobart ain't all that different from here. I thought I'd look up folks from where i bought my ebay clothes from. It's amazing how things change locally but how similar things are worlds apart. We never went to the roller rink. We just skated around the neighborhood. Glen Park.. 41st and Tyler. Riding bikes, skating, going to the corner store for candy! It really was the best of times! Kids nowadays are really missing out!!
@@TheSteelCityStorm I lived in GP until I was 22. Many fond memories of the neighborhood. Went to Webster Elementary, played ball at Junedale Little League, rode bikes from Broadway to Ridge to Grant and back to 41st and Tyler… all around that area. I have to admit, your videos kinda make me a little sad sometimes. Remembering the city the way it was versus the decay that’s happening now is really sad. Gary really is a beautiful city.
Yep. That was the old Oak Ridge roller dome. Unfortunately it had to be torn down for 1-65 to be built. When I was very little, I had a chance to go skate there. The Old jackets, were black courdoroy with a skate that had wings,and said Oak Ridge roller dome. I miss the Oak ridge skating rink.
I remember when the old skating rink was on ridge road. went there with some friends when I was a kid... long long time ago. and yes I remember it was torn down because of i-65 coming through.

I remember back in st.petersburg fla we had a old skating rink called goals Roller Rink it was owned by a woman and her son had the old wood floors the big speakers oh yeah used to do the Hokey Pokey the speed racing all that stuff couple skating everything had an arcade room and a little concession saying we can get a slice of pizza hot dogs and sodas remember the old soda cups is made out of Wax. I remember the rental thing how they were junkie States they smelled and had that old smell like peanut oil that they would put down on the floor this would be the late '70s into the '80s unfortunately the building was like a Kwanzaa hut kind of thing a hospital bought it tore it down and made it in the office building yeah I remember the good times back then. Remember one of the couples skate songs was island in the stream by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton.
Wasn't that steady on skates but the two newest ones get torn up boy the kids. We used to dread getting a Friday or Saturday night bus return from there usually three buses stuffed to the gills with screaming teens. The Neighbors and police got them shut down in a few years so Milwaukee only has two left out in the suburbs. It's possible one or two churches may still have one but are rarely used. Never saw a Moose Lodge sign like that a friend wanted me to join but it's 15 MI from my house and the most exciting thing seemed to be bingo and an average age of 60+
I forgot all about that until you mentioned it brother I’m pretty sure I still remember the guy who told me he sold it and we got in a fight like that next weekend. Charles Cox was his name 😅
