Eyes are the bane of my existence. I've been painting for 10+ years now and still often struggle, keep at it and practice practice practice. Clean up on the eyes gets easier and you'll find it less a chore, and more part of the process.

Hi Dana, I love your videos and this particular series is incredible. I wanted to give you some feedback on it because I think I might not be the only one struggling with this. I really hope in the future you try to come out with series videos with smaller gaps. I was really enjoying working on my Stormcast but kind of lost momentum because it's often months between videos in the series and I have other miniature projects I have moved onto and don't really feel the draw to go back to it with my limited hobby time. I hope I am not coming off as one of those mean idiot youtube commenters but I really do think there would be value to these coming out as more of a series in a shorter period of time.

I agree. I bought all of the stuff in the first class but I've been waiting to start until all of the videos have been uploaded. I think 103B completes the initial purchases so I can probably safely start on this one. Then I'll wait until the next figures in 104 are completely painted before starting that class. I too wish they came out quicker, but I'm thankful she is doing them at all!!! Thanks, Dana! Keep up the good work.

Once again Dana lays out the steps in a simple, easy to follow format. Next class provides excuse to go get some Nighthaunt once local lockdown is over . . . While nothing in the series is 'new' to those of us who've been painting for a while, sometimes it's really good to just go back to the basics again.

I’m a new painter and discovered your videos after an intense and prolonged search for someone I could stand listening to. Your Hobby basics playlist was an absolute joy to find! ( still waiting on 104! 😄) I absolutely appreciate everything that you teach, however my main focus is the game Gaslands by Osprey Games. Would you consider doing a video on how to achieve both rust effects and that new car shine on the large flat surfaces inherent in these models?

Oh wow - I painted one of these a few months ago and HATED painting the eyes. Between the fairly narrow sculpted eyes and the hair over the face they have to have been the hardest eyes I've tried to put paint on in my life. I wouldn't have uploaded footage of me trying either! ;-)

Nice vid, Dana. Kudos for leaving the small error in. "She stoops to conquer!" Given the mix of glazed and unglazed areas have a range of specularities, do you ever use matt/semi gloss laquer to unify areas and take down the glossiness? Which laquers do you recommend, and would you brush/airbrush/rattlecan to apply? Not a miniature painter myself, but learning a host of new techniques from you. Many thanks.

I'm painting my nighthuant army in a dia de los muertos theme. I started with lady olynder and I'm still deciding on a color scheme for the rest of the army to match or compliment her. She's painted up like la muerte from the book of life movie. Nighthuants are fun and easy to paint (if you stop overthinking). Great for beginners.

Thank you for creating these videos, it's really helping me improve my painting skills! One problem I have with shading is that all of the Citadel washes leave my models look very shiny. Could you recommend another brand that has more matte washes? Or maybe I should look into another technique to achieve similar results?
@sarainy9775
@sarainy9775 3 года назад
I have the same problem. A technique which prevents the shiny look is to make your own shades by mixing a normal layer paint with Acrylic Matte Medium (GW calls this Lahmian Medium I think - but it's much cheaper to get Hobby Craft brand Acrylic Matte Medium).

Haha, that intro though. Also why is that stormcast mini the best ever? I have her lying around in pieces right now, since I want to try convert her to a 40K Inquisitor. The Easy-to-build ironically makes this harder-to-convert.

When I apply a wash on my Vallejo Dull Aluminium, all the metal flakes start lifting off and flowing around in the wash, even if I wait to let it dry overnight. That's not normal, right? My Dull Aluminium also came without a mixer ball, so maybe it's a dud pot. I love these videos, though, thanks for making them!
@grombatmole
@grombatmole 3 года назад
Update: I think it must have just been a really old pot that sat on the shelf at my local store for way too long. I've replaced it with a pot of Vallejo Metal Color Chrome (with shaker ball) and it works perfectly.
