The new Hobbywing 8BL150 G2 ESC and 4274 G2 motors are AMAZING! Castle Creations has a lot of work to do to make a value like this! This is perfect for a Traxxas Sledge, Arrma Outcast Kraton or Mojave!
@user-dv3os8il1b I think people put these style of combos in the 3S infraction. Might be some body clearance issues though with the ESC since it will have to go on top of the receiver box. Maybe try looking up some videos where people have put 6s in the infraction and see what they're using.
Thanks! I don't think you'll be disappointed This thing is an absolute monster. I am genuinely shocked at what you get for the price. Right now the breakers are charging $160 for the previous generation combo. They're going to have to bring that price down :-)
What size Pinion and sour were you running in that big rig? FYI: This video got me to buy 2 of the 6s 2000kv combos! And I’m about to order my 3rd soon for a v1 infraction.
Yeah I'm pretty shocked about the temps. These things must be super efficient. I always run a fan on my stuff because of where I live and I fully expected this thing to overheat especially doing speed runs.
@tyranfarmer1239 That was probably when Hobby Wing had some pretty crazy sales going on for Black Friday or something like that. Right now it's 124 directly from their site which is still a pretty crazy deal for what you get.
@@Scootbreezy23 Yes it will however the terminals are different on them. The stock motor comes with 4 mm banana plugs and the Max 8 and most ESCs of that size come with 6.5 so would need to get adapters. The motor wires are also really short so you'd probably have to extend them anyway and adapters are a good way to do that. Just make sure that they are good quality as there's a lot of junk adapters out there
HW is the king. They just get better and better. I ordered the 8bl combo but it comes with a 4s motor, ill be putting that in the Maxx, im really excited. but i have to wait for backorders!! boo
Yeah the g1 8bl150 is actually The stock ESC in a lot of different OEM RTR vehicles. It's an excellent ESC. This one has a few nice improvements though and is significantly cheaper! Thanks for watching :-)
Yeah you're the second person that said that. I wonder if they started including them after I got mine. I bought mine when they first came out and I'm almost positive it didn't come with one.
Is this a good combo for my big rock 6s I want to get It 60 mph On road versus the 50 and bash with that on stock or should I save and get the Max 6 1650kv combo
@@DoRC Thank you ! I think you saved me money I have my Mojave exb running my big rock electronics maybe I’ll just put them back eventually save for the max 6 if it’s similar I’ll just wait then lol
Wow impressive, i have a kraton v4 with the oldest blx esc it's held up fine but you think this will be a improvement to it. I switch between the stick motor and a1730kv rocket which does give little more punch but that motor does get hot, thanks
@BudgetRcFun I wouldn't be too worried about it. There's always going to be a certain number of failures for any given piece of electronics. In general the hobbywing ESCs are very reliable. It sounds like you just had a little bit of bad luck.
I suppose it depends on who you ask. This is very similar to the firma 150 combo. Some people would say it's more reliable but I don't think you're going to notice a huge difference between the two.
Would this thing handle a 4092 Motor? Also, I'd love a comparison to the old 8bl150 combo, or the old max8 combo in the same car to see how the temps compare
Yes I think it would handle it without too much trouble. It's going to be basically the same as the old Max 8 and fairly similar to the old 8 BL 150 just with the features of the Max 8G1.
Hey Brother, my buddy just got this esc. He asked me what size the bullet connectors were that go in the ESC? I have no idea lol so I figured I’d ask you.
Hey Ken, are you able to program this without a program card? A buddy of mine just got it and is asking me and I’m not sure if it is similar to the G1 series or if you need a program card.
@@DoRC yeah that’s what I was thinking as well from using Google lol. Thank you for letting me know. I’m gonna let him know he hast to order a program card.
If it'll fit it would be an absolute monster and probably immediately destroy all of the drivetrain components. Unless you're trying to do speed runs I'd recommend the 10 BL120 G2 combo for something like that. It'll still be more than enough power and a lot more appropriate. Thanks for watching!
Hey I don't post links because the links often change and I don't want people to think that I'm posting affiliate links and making money off of things cuz I don't. If you go to the hobby wing direct website they have them on there. I don't think they are at other retailers yet and I think at the moment they're out of stock but you can go on their site to check. Thanks for watching :-)
Hello. I am Lajos from Hungary. Question. How satisfied are you with the set? because I want to buy one too. Thank you in advance for your answer. but 2600kv combo with 4s battery
I think it would be good in the car. I'm not sure it'll get you up to 100 miles an hour but with as much more power as it has than the stock system I wouldn't doubt it. Definitely worth a shot.
Hi, two questions, if I put this esc on my Kraton 6s keeping the stock motor, the model goes faster than stock esc spektrum? Which is the difference between this esc and hobbywing max 8 esc? Thank you!
I don't think this would really be any more powerful than the stock ESC. They are very similar and are both made by hobby wing. The max 8 G2 is more powerful has more features and the latest G2S revision of it has the ability to program via Bluetooth.
Great video! I bought the ESC after watching you test it. Still deciding on a motor though. How is the combo holding up? I am thinking of using it for an Arrma Notorious, or possibly a 1/12 Wltoys speed runner. Thanks!
@@grimyentertainment238 oops I guess I didn't see his reply. It depends on what you're putting it in. For a limitless probably not as it's really not that powerful. It's decent for general bashing but if you want to go fast you'll probably want a Max 6 minimum
Thanks for the video. Looking a suitable combo to fit on 1/7 rally chassis. Which one would be the best buy from hobbywing and as a second option from an economic value for money brand. Much appreciated 👌 pls mention the kv which I should be looking for. Not looking for insane speed. Just rally!
@@DoRC thanks a lot. If I have the option between 2000kv and 1650, I presume I should go for the lower 1650 correct? . My local hobby shop just has Hobbywing 38010801 EZRun MAX6 V3 Combo w/4985SL (1650kV) !
@Corolos.Borolos depends on the application. The 1650 KV motor is going to be larger so it will have more power. I think with a 1/7 scale rally car either one would technically work but you'll have more headroom with the larger motor. Just make sure it will actually fit because that's a big motor.
Awesome video Kenny. What were you geared? Maybe gearing up would have over heated it. But comparing to the stock like you said, is just awesome! Can’t believe that didn’t over heat. Almost makes me want to switch from my max6 combos. That thing always over heats lol. And I use 3 rocket fans on that combo.. keep it up bro thank you
16t on the pinion. Fairly conservative but given the ambient temperature and bashing and grass/thrashing it up and down the street like that I feel like it definitely should have gotten hotter. I'm sure I could force it overheat by gearing it way up but it still did admirably well especially since it didn't even have a fan and was in a truck that's kind of too big for it. Thanks for watching!
Question. Can you program the punch settings without a programmer? I'm trying to set the punch but seems like all videos I find say to "press and hold the set button, power on while holding set button, let go when it beeps indicating the parameter you want to change". But that doesn't do anything. I follow instructions and it just keeps beeping with the red led.
Hey buddy does this Esc stack up against the max8 g2? Is there that much performance difference you think? I'm looking to upgrade my fireteam esc and the quickrun is $85 while the max8 is $65 more at $150 and I'm wondering if its worth the extra $65 and love to get your opinion. Thanks man!
The Max 8g2 is definitely a more powerful ESC. That being said it really depends on what motor you're going to use. The stock motor might not be able to take advantage of the extra available power. I haven't ever run the max 8G2 with that motor so I can't comment specifically on it though.
@DoRC I got a hobbystar 4282 2150kv motor I was going to run in the fireteam so a little fatter and little longer than stock. Would you say that the quick run is a upgrade over the stock spectrum 150a?
@@cwatson42785 The Max 8 G2 would probably be more powerful though some of the G2 ESCs have had strange issues with some sensorless motors so that's always something to keep in mind.
You say about the stock esc wonder if that's my issue mines randomly started killing batteries getting hot to the point the car nearly went up in flames lost 3 3s 100c batteries
If you're losing multiple batteries to a single vehicle then yeah there's either something wrong with your electronics or something wrong with your wiring. I would be very careful until you get it figured out because even if a battery didn't blow up in the car it could get damaged and then end up blowing up in your house.
If you mean at 550 size brushless motor It should as the hole patterns Are there. Brushed I'm not sure as I think they have a different hole pattern. It'll be larger in diameter than a standard 550 can motor though so it may not fit diametrically.
I wanted to put outcast 4s v2 a arms, turnbuckles, tie rods, axles and wheels and tires on my v3 senton. Do u think this would power it? I know the 42mm diameter motor will fit.
No. A reluctance motor has no magnets in the rotor and the magnetic field is created dynamically. This has neodymium magnets in it just You would expect they're just contained within a metal sleeve instead of with Kevlar wrapping and epoxy
@@DoRC I believe there are some hybrid motors that can use both permanent magnets for synchronous and reluctance, but honestly that seems way too sophisticated for an RC car when most systems don’t even bother with sensors.
@dylanwhite6539 Yeah I'm not sure how you would classify something like that. Technically the windings always induce some change in magnetic field in the magnets but we've now exceeded my knowledge of motors :-)
When I plug another 8.4v battery to the RX, the esc is smoked and the middle one of three capacitor on esc is popped up. Do you have any idea to replace the cap on esc? Great video by the way, but I did something stupid.
Unfortunately there's no great way to replace those capacitors. The entire circuit board is encased in epoxy for waterproofing and board level repair is kind of beyond the scope of most people's skills. Beyond that it's very likely that more is wrong with the ESC then just that capacitor if it got back fed and smoked.
Not sure. Personally I don't really think they're necessary. It is nice not to lose the pinion if it comes loose but if you follow the right procedure you really won't ever have a problem with that. Clean the threads on the grub screw and the gear with brake cleaner or rubbing alcohol allow it to dry. Apply a little bit of red thread locker on the grub screw Make sure it's lined up properly with the flat on the shaft tighten securely and then most importantly give it a full 24 hours to cure. If you are having problems with pinions coming loose try the tekno ones. They have a bigger grub screw and it allows you to tighten it more securely and it has more purchase on the shaft.
Yeah I've heard that. It's possible they just weren't included in the first batch. I havent purchased any new since they first came out. Thanks for watching!
I'm not sure. It's a standard 6S system so you should be able to look up slash 6s on RU-vid and see what people have been installing. If a standard 6S system like a original Max 8 G1 will fit this will too.
It will probably be fairly similar to the stock system. The slightly larger motor and seemingly higher efficiency of the ESC should make it run cooler with possibly a little bit more power. Thanks for watching and if you aren't already subscribed a sub is appreciated :-)
Yeah I'm guessing they're pretty similar but I believe the capacitors are larger and it definitely feels better tuned to me. I don't remember the Max 8 being able to run that slowly. Has been a little while since I've had one though. Maybe someone else can confirm. Thanks for watching!
I swear by the the Kaiju 8bl150 4268 combo i use a lot in my 6s 1/8 cars. They are rock solid impressive power comparable to spektrum 150 combos. Yea agreed Hobbywing has upped its game and so has spektrum.
Yeah the 8BL150 definitely went in a lot of vehicles and is an awesome ESC. I think that the companies that rip the combos out of those vehicles are going to have to lower the price though because this combo is arguably better than any of those and cheaper than all of them. Thanks for watching!
Specification wise they are essentially the same. The firma 150 is basically a G1 HBL150 but it also has the ability to run 7.4 volt BEC. That being said for some reason the firma 150 ESCs seem to have more of a tendency to fail than the hobbywing branded one so because of that alone I would say this is better. It's also a lot cheaper
@@DoRC ah okay, thanks for the reply. My xmaxx hits about 40mph and I would like it to hit 50 comfortably without over heating. The way that big rig looked in your video started to make me wonder. I’m definitely going to get one of these systems maybe 2. One for my Maxx and maybe one for my rustler 4x4. Thanks again.
@@mikehansen9898 No reason to think they won't be. I know it shows that as being a sale price but all of their stuff is always on sale and whatever they say that sale price is is usually the actual regular price.
Yes. The firma 150 is a G1 8bl150 in a pretty dress. This ESC is very similar to that. I do think that the capacitors have been upgraded and there's better temperature monitoring as well as better low speed performance but for the most part they're very similar. Thanks for watching!
@@DoRC oh I see the difference! I was looking for the 2000KV motor but the one that sells for $125 is a 2600KV. I want it for my Felony so I assumed the 2000KV is better but I'm honestly guessing 🤷
@@Acornejo02 on the hobby wing direct website, at least for me the 2000KV combo is 124.99. You can try to use code nerdthenewcool to even get a few bucks off that but I don't know if it'll work on that particular item as it doesn't work for everything
@DoRC I just dropped this in my Hobao SSTE, I'm excited to see how well it does at the track! Hopefully it holds up! I've never raced 8th scale before, so it should be interesting
@DoRC that's how I feel. I'm just looking to have fun, and not trying to win any races anyway. I do however run sensored in my 10th scale race buggies and short course.
I made that screw mistake with my brand new max6 now it can't make up it's mind if it wants to go forward or backward😢 but nice vid once again that's a really impressive system might get one for my kaiju as i sold the old system
Technically probably but the problem is that they pot the board with epoxy for waterproofing so you'd have to dig it out of there in order to even see what happened and the likelihood of doing that without damaging something else is pretty small. Unfortunately for all intents and purposes it's probably junk.
On some vehicles you can but not all of them as some bulkheads don't allow the differential to be flipped around. That being said it's a lot easier to swap two wires than it is to flip two differentials in most cases
In my experience if it's shaped like a hobby wing ESC and is just missing the brand label it's genuine but that's not something I would want to guarantee. Thanks for watching!
@@six12rcguy75 as far as I know hobby wing offers a 90-day warranty and some of their ESCs come with connectors and some do not. I would just assume that they don't because the chances of them coming with the exact connector set up that you want is pretty small.
@hrivera9357 Typhon definitely. Mojave is a big heavy truck. That being said it is lighter than the MTX so as long as you gear at least reasonably conservatively it should be fine. Let me know how it goes!
@hrivera9357 just depends on what you like to do for bashing. I haven't done a lot of mixing and matching with parts like that so I don't really have a specific combination to recommend. Best thing to do is just to experiment and see what you like.
Hobbywing makes great ESC\Motor combos. I wonder how effed up your mind palace is to assume this is a paid promotion, based on...... paranoia ? Dude, it was just a shiny weather balloon that crashed in the Nevada desert. Those grey things with big eyes are just diseases pygmies, and that large circular metal object is just a large Mexican hat. It's a float for the parade. You read too much Charles Fort.
@dontdoit6403 interesting. They must have either started putting them in there or they are inconsistent as to which ones they put them in. Hopefully it's that they just started putting them back in. It's a really nice thing to have. Thanks for watching!
@DoRC the worst part of Europe is.. we don't get 50 percent of the vehicles 🤣🤣 I even spoke with horizon. Won't tell you what they said. . You can't even get a mega truck here. It cost me 900 bucks to get my tlr lmt kit. And sad is china is closer to me than the states.🤣🤣 in total with treal axles .. raw 500 and treal sway bars and servo saver wheels tires and body . 2500 usd. Sad, isn't it. Only thing I purchased in Austria was the hobby wing max 8 combo
@@dontdoit6403 I've heard similar things from others over there. Apparently Australia isn't much better. If I lived in one of those countries I probably wouldn't be in this hobby.
Not sure. The rotor looked pretty good to me in the video. The 8BL 150 ESCs are not known for catastrophic failure. The firma 150s are a little bit more likely to fail but I don't see any reason to be concerned about this one. Thanks for watching!
The Max 8 G2 is definitely a bit more powerful and has some more features but personally I like to keep things simple and cheap for bashing and I would run this over the Max 8G2 on pretty much any vehicle. The Max 6 is going to be a lot more powerful but if you're wanting to go max six I would wait because hobby laying it would be releasing a G2 very soon. Thanks for watching!
@DoRC thanks man, really appreciate your insight and responses. Always turn to you for the new stuff. Only other video I saw on the 8bl g2 is from exocaged. Thanks again!
