I just bought one, a 2022 camo Compass. They have a new seat design for 2022 hopefully they addressed the issue with the bar. It will be about 3-4 weeks before I can pick it up (the dealer is an hour and a half away and I'm working 60 hour weeks until after Christmas) so I guess I'll find out then if the new seat design fixed that issue. Either way it's going to be way better than my Tarpon 120 it replaces, the Tarpon is a good kayak but you can't paddle and fish at the same time. I've lost too many big snook and redfish on my annual Florida vacation when they pull me into the mangroves. Pedal drive solves that problem!
I love my 2023 Hobie compass in the orange camo. I've been an Oldtown guy. But I fell in love with that boat, when I could touch it and see it in person. The only thing I'm not a fan of is. The rudder. I sold my 1st j2 Bixpy to my buddy, he's happy lol. And I purchased the new J2 PP 768 Bixpy, with twice the power, but I have to purchase the power pole adapter for the Hobie, because of the rudder. I also did my hatches, just as you did. The seat is also my other complaint. But now with these boats, you can change anything. I actually have a small pool noodle, in my seat, it'll resolve that bar issue. But I can walk all over her bow to stern, she's fast, love the fin drive. I'm 5ft 7 158 lbs so it's a perfect, and stable, boat. With all my add-ons, electronics, lights, just love the kayak. 😎 🎣 🛶
I’m not surprised how much you enjoy the Compass! What is it about the rudder you don’t like? And they changed the seat (I think in 2022) thought that bar in the tailbone was fixed???
Great video! Wow you have added a lot of extras, smart. Maybe you could put a little Styrofoam tube over that bar in your seat. Kind of like those Styrofoam tubs you see in swimming pools..😏🤔
Hey there, great stuff. I am thinking about adding a downrigger and enjoyed that video series. I think, however, that you should get rid of the Boondocks thing before it does more damage. If it cracked sitting there than whats it doing while you are dragging it. There are plenty of carts out there and the Boondocks will be easy to sell... its a neat idea but yours is not the only kayak that has been cracked or damaged like that. I have a Wilderness Systems cart for my Recon but a basic Amazon cart works awesome for my Compass, even fully loaded. I do have a vid of the basic cart on my channel. Point your camera at the crack while you drag the kayak through a little "rough terrain" and I'm sure you'll see more "flex" than you like. Hope this helps.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the videos! I appreciate the input on the Boon Dox... I really like the convenience of the Boon Dox setup... Being able to put the wheels down and just drag it right to the truck. However, I have been a bit worried about what damage can happen to the kayak when on rougher terrain as you mentioned... I think I might do a video on it and see what response I get ... Thanks again for your input!
I love my Wilderness Systems cart, very easy to use and I've never had to use the straps. It's more expensive than the Hobie one that goes through the scupper holes but I don't think it's a good idea to put that stress on the scupper holes even if Hobie says it's ok.
@@SSHitMan I agree with you about the stress on the scupper holes… I looked at the WS cart, looks sturdy, I just really like that I don’t have to pick up the kayak to put it on a cart… I’m going to see if I can come up with a mod that takes the stress off the top area of the kayak… 😁
Thank you for your walk through! I was going to buy this line of hobbie, thinking about that chair bar ,maybe a foam pool noodle or plumbing foam rap taped on could help ,if you find a fix ,could you video it ,thanks.....FISH ON.
I talked to my Hobie dealer a couple days ago about the seat and he thinks that they have changed the design of the seat to take care of this issue. I’ll post when I find out if this is correct 😁
This model was built to fit a Lowrance transducer, my Garmin transducer was a bit longer, but I was able to fit it in there. It’s been working flawlessly since I installed it. 😁
@@WildEdgeOutdoors Thanks, I have the Garmin Striker 7 with a bigger transducer vs Lowrance. I barely fit it in a Hobie Passport 12, planning to buy the Compass, just wanna make sure.
