Thanks for the D-Ring leash attachment idea. I’ve been scratching my head trying to figure out where to attach my leash. Hobie sure didn’t make that easy🤨
Hey there. I just picked up a compass, but it's the newer model with a different seat design -- the seat area is less stiff. I'll let you know if I end up installing the handle bar in that area / how it works out, but I'm definitely installing that one at the cup holder. How are yours holding out?
I have the exact kayak and I've had it since May. I did the usual upgrades moving the small hatch up front and adding in a bigger rectangle one. That is a great upgrade for storage, etc. The drink holder hack is awesome because I am using the Scottie cup holder but they no longer make the brackets so it's being held in with velcro and I am very disappointed with it. I am going to use the brackets you are showing! Can you explain more about the placement of the washers?
Once you have the handles in your possession, I just eyeballed it, marked it with a sharpie and drilled it with a 1/4 bit. That bit size is small for 1/4-20 screws so I had to "hog" it out a little for the best fit but it was the best choice of bit that I had. There is a fair margin for placement of screw holes but reach in through the center hatch and feel the back side where the washer and nut will end up, before you drill, so you know exactly where your drill bit is going. You may have to push aside the foam blocks in there. Make sure and use "fender" washers that help to distribute the load of the handle. Hope this helps.
This might be a silly question, but when you say that you backed the RV handles with fender washers, are those washers on the inside of the kayak? Were you able to reach those mounting points through the circular center hatch?
as much as I hate drilling into my kayak, I have to say that the solid handles look surprisingly sexy and attractive @_@. How I'm holding a screw on my hand, what should I do lol?
