Thanks for sharing. Thinking of getting compass over the outback because of the weight, water getting in front hatch of outback and price. Never been offshore in kayak. Do you think it does well out there on calm days for a beginner?
Nice rig 👍🏻. You say you’ve tried multiple Hobies. Any experience w the Revos? If so, could you give a comparison of the two? I’m familiar w the Revo and would like to see how this compares. Particularly speed, tracking, nimbleness and the non vantage seat & comfort over longer periods. Thanks
The Compass cuts water chop like a Revo and weighs the same as a Revo. The main Pros are it has much more cockpit space, more carrying capacity, with a higher yet more stable ride. It's just much more comfortable to spend time in. The only Con for me over a Revo is the Compass is bit more broachy when challenged by a rough following sea. The Compass chair is perfectly comfortable for most people, those who find it uncomfortable are usually slender people with pointy bums that slip through the seat gap and rub their tailbones on the rear bar. Regular to broad people are mostly fine.
Thanks for the feedback. It sounds like this boat would benefit from a bigger rudder. Tough these days getting a demo. Between covid and a shortage of kayak inventory...So your input helps!
