It was too gorgeous a weekend to sit on my butt all day so I decided to take my new Hobie i12s inflatable kayake with Mirage Drive out on the water and bring you along for the adventure! Join me as I review the Hobie i12s on the water and talk about some of its features... and a few of my mishaps.

Interesting review thanks. I’ve had my i12s here in the south of France for about 10 years without a single problem. We don’t have fancy boat ramps like you guys and I don’t have wheels so I inflate in the car park about 100 yds away and carry the Kayak to the water (I’m 75 years old). I have never seen another Hobie around here. I shall be on the water later in the week and as a paddle boarder, I’ll try to stand up and paddle the thing for fun. Incidentally, I have exactly the same North Face T shirt and Love it. Finally I love your Cadillac, but would advise you consider lowering the B pillar seat belt attachment point. À high belt like that could do you a lot of harm in an accident. Just a thought from an old paddler who has made it to 75 !!

Has anyone fished from this kayak? Im used to a hard shell pedal kayak...Native Watercraft Propel 1o which is a fabulous fishing yak but much heavier fully rigged than this Hobie . Does this Hobie model which i see was discontinued have a pedal drive that goes in both forward and reverse? I suspect it only goes forward due to how old this model is which would really detract from using it for fishing.

if you look at 5.49 at the pedal drive you see 2 plastic things going towards the paddles. that is the forward revers pull levers

How does the i12 do on windy days ? Does it chop through the water better than the i11 sup ??

You do not have to tighten the Mirage Drive if it is assembled correctly... Probably your assembly if I were to guess, since you bought it off eBay. Get it correct, which Hobie provides the instructions if your dealer didn’t assemble it. Do I understand that you sent this back after buying the wrong cart?

+angela martin the life jacket was behind me... I definitely don't kayake without it nearby. The lake is fairly shallow... I could stand in it if I needed to.

Thank you for watching! It has performed well in the time I've owned it. The largest maintenance item, besides keeping it clean after each adventure, is tightening the bolts of the MirageDrive and making sure your rudder cords are in good health.

Thank you for the positive comment.... at the end of the day, it's all in how I feel and I know how I feel when I lose 5, 10, 15+ pounds! Nothing can beat it! Having the motivation to do it is the greatest challenge.

You earned a like for your effort ;) I own a hobie inflatable also and it always seems like a big challenge to pack everything back into the bag after. Believe it or not when you fold it correctly (whether it be searching for a how to video on the hobie or youtube website). You can do it! However the only item you may not want to store in the bag is the actual mirage drive. You can damage it when packing it away or it hurting the inflatable. You may need to research more on hobie's recommendation on packing the drive when checking your bag at airlines when traveling. Btw I noticed you didn't censored your vehicle plate when you close your car trunk :)
