Worth the money? A quick and honest review/beginners guide of the Hobie Pro Angler 14. I am a first time hobie owner, so I wanted to give my thoughts on some of the aspects of owning one in case you are debating making the purchase. In my opinion, well worth the money but it takes a little getting used to.

Congrats on a great kayak! I recommend turning those Boonedox wheels around so they slant towards the back of the kayak. When you have the wheels pointed forwards it puts more weight/stress on the crossbar and can crack your kayak easier. Also avoid potholes or dropping off curbs with the Boonedox. This is how kayaks get cracked.

thats good to know thank you I'm gonna give that a try

I disagree, it’s not at all balanced with that wheels at the back . Much easier to move with the wheels ahead . I did find that taking the wheels off in the water is a lot harder , they float . So I do now just on the waters edge . Much easier .
@jerrykrobby
@jerrykrobby 3 года назад
@@airwarrior5125 sure it is be easier for you but it puts much more stress on the kayak hull which will almost certainly lead to a cracked hull. That was my point.

Congratulations man. That's a beautiful fishing machine. I'm about to go for a pedal kayak too, not a hobie but still a big investment for me, that's the only con haha specially now that we are in crisis times. Can't wait for the kayak fishing videos man ! Again congratulations

@@Fish-RI yeah i really like what you got available over there in the US but importing them to my country would add at least 300-500 bucks extra to the price tag

You need to change the fins to turbo fins that’s what usually comes with the pro angler

How does the pro angler 14 do on large corp of engineers reservoirs which tend to have some pretty significant waves on windy days. If wind comes up unexpectedly is it seaworthy enough to return safely to the boat ramp. Or should one just fish in coves or areas in a large body of water with protection from the wind?

There are suitcases that will follow you through the airport, why not a kayak to the water?

I feel like the best kayak for fresh water fishing hands down has to be bonafide kayaks native water crafts and old town kayaks

Seems like everyone I talk to says that all other kayaks are a gateway drug to the Hobie
@Fish-RI
@Fish-RI 3 года назад
that's a good way to put it. I started off with a cheap paddle kayak and landed on a hobie. Absolutely love it though if you fish a lot they are well worth the money

I am looking at a 2012 hobie pro angler 14 for 2,000 on facebook marketplace. He says there is a 5-6 inch crack in the top of the deck. It seems pretty easy to plastic weld. He also said he peddled 8 miles a day after work. There is nothing else that it wrong with it. Do you think this would be worth it?
@Fish-RI
@Fish-RI 4 года назад
Its hard to say exactly. Pro Anglers are expensive, usually retailing around $4000-4500 depending on the exact model so $2000 is relatively cheap compared to that, but on the flip side it is 8 years old. I would take a good look at that crack before buying and make sure you can repair it, the last thing you want to worry about is that opening up again while you're on the water. Also hobie peddle drives have a tendency of breaking after years of use so I would take a good look at that too
@sgorman9523
@sgorman9523 4 года назад
Fishing With Jonny I don’t have any experience with hobies what should I look for with the mirage drive? He said since the crack is on the top deck he has had no water leaking in and never had water in the hull
@Fish-RI
@Fish-RI 4 года назад
@@sgorman9523 I'm not a hobie expert either I guess just make sure nothing is rusty on the peddle drive/it doesn't make any weird noises

If you kayak fish a lot paddle drive is the way to go, paddling everywhere sucks your arms will be destroyed and you won’t feel comfortable casting.

Just got my outback for 1800 off a buddy. Gives me room to buy more expensive hobie shit lol. I cartop on my hatchback so there is no way in hell I could get the pro angler on unless i get the thule hullivator.

my buddy just got an outback I was debating that type they are sweet, you need a truck for the pro angler its such a wide kayak. the amount of hobie accessories are literally endless haha
