You might be able find plastic feed sacks around a farm or something similar. You can stuff each sack with leaves, grass or trash paper, anything with insulation value. Then sew the sacks roughly into shingles. We’ve insulated our chicken coop that way. Paper sacks are okay but the waterproof plastic feed sacks are the better choice.

Cool. some plastic on the south side for a bit of solar gain, those building material tarps are great, construction site scraps if a contractor is willing to let stuff go. I wonder if a Green certification would allow scrap to given away for upcycling would give more points? Probably not. I got lucky with some green house covering once, the folks running the green house was refreshing their cover, still good but they had cash crops inside and didn't want to risk another winter. I got lots of projects out of it. I've often thought of a young birch grove and just bend over the young birch trees as a core then add cut trees where needed, let the rooted trees keep their branches and incorporate a cob like material, clay and marsh grass mixed and mud up a skin. Kind of like a beaver house. use debris as a skin on top to help shed some water.

I never cut down the trees to frame out a hut. You can find five or six trees growing together and twist them around and tie them together to make a hut that wont blow away because it is anchored. Use the whole trees and branches. Makes for a lot less work. If you use clear plastic the trees will not die from lack of sunlight. A large sheet of plastic is all you need to camp outside in freezing and wet weather. You can sleep in a snowbank without even a blanket in a sheet of plastic. I always when riding freight trains back in the day carried a 12 x 12 sheet of plastic and a sheet as a bedroll.

Tie cord to a stick for a needle and unroll you grass mats starting at the bottom. Secure the mats with your "threaded" cord. *See my comment on grass mats vid.
