Hobonichi Cousin Quarter 1 Update | 2021 | LindseyScribbles 

I’d love to plan in something like this but my days are the same. Wake up, am routine, take dogs out, feed dogs/water, feed myself, work 8-5, home, sometimes groceries, home, take dogs out, feed dogs/water, feed myself, shower, RU-vid, bed. lol 😂 occasionally I have errands to run at lunch too. That’s when I feel like a real rebel! Lol

What I love about the hobonichi is you can change it up, work in the week section for a week or work in the daily for a month, if I had a pretty boring month I can write one or two words in the recurring monthly section. The different sections allow you to do what you want and if there’s a blank weekly spread I can go back to my daily pages to check out what I did for the day, not feel bad about it and vice versa. I found myself feeling bad when I have had other planners or pressure to fill it out but for some reason not with this planner. But thanks for showing your process, it makes me feel less pressure to have had figured it out cause I haven’t 😆

I had two years in the cousin. I would start off really good and used the whole planner. Then I stopped using the months, then the weeks part. Then I just used the daily pages. Like you I use the weeks to plan so I didn’t really need the cousin. This year I am using the weeks as my everyday carry. I am also using an A6 for memory keeping, which I am loving. I also use a standard TN for private journaling. I am now happy in all my planners.

So refreshing to see a cousin video not ruined with sticker kits that cover everything up so there’s no room to write anything. Love the more functional style! I love stickers! Just don’t like all the big blocks that cover up huge swaths of space.

Thank You for sharing your insightful insights..It helps to listen to how you have used Hobo Cousin in different ways and how it was effective and efficient. I stayed away from the Hobo Cousin (so far) and am experimenting with other sizes. My aha moment is that the Hobo cousin has the space for most needs (avoiding multiple systems), it is up to us to find how and what to use.

I always enjoy your videos and this video really resonated with me because I am also struggling with what to do with my hobonichi weeks. I mostly use my bullet journal and have started to use a long term collection notebook, so some of the things I had in my weeks are going in my long-term collections. Thanks for the reminder that it's fine just to use the planner however you want and just for fun!

Love the idea of using the year page as an index! Will definitely be stealing that idea immediately! I love the a5 size and don’t feel intimidated at all! I use all the planners and even a wonderland 222 for work only! I’m attempting an experiment where I try to use another cousin as a catch all for everything to see if I can use only a cousin and weeks for 2023 instead of the 12 planners I’m working in now.

I think my Cousin practice changes monthly, but it’s consolidated 4 journals into one, so I love it. Your Weeks videos makes me want to add that to the mix, mostly for tasks, but I want to have at least one “streamlined” year.

Always love your update videos ... reinforces the "permission" to change things up and experiment even if you're mid-year (my brain sometimes struggles with that, but I think it's probably better than disliking what you're doing for months on end). Would you ever consider doing a video on what you're doing for gratitude these days? I have been so "all over the map" on that one .... definitely a work in progress! Thanks again for sharing.

Thanks for sharing this Lindsey, it's super helpful and it's just fun to see how other people are using their Cousin pages. I'm glad you are finding the FUN in planning again! 👍 For me, I have soooo many blank pages in March since I've had a crazy month without much time for even my usual daily planning (I'm really missing it!). I'm trying to not worry too much about going and backfilling things, and instead look ahead to April. Blank pages in the Cousin don't bother me as much as other planners, but this is almost the whole month blank 😬

As I juggle several systems, I really am beginning to see how long each step takes daily. When it stops being fun, something needs to go.

I love seeing your pages in this planner! They inspire me in multiple ways! I'll be disappointed if you discontinue using it at some point, but I also understand you have to do what's right for you.

Why don't you try the 5 year for memory keeping? I have been loving that. I saw sterling ink and she uses the daily pages as just a notebook for that month and she ignores the dates. I thought that was a brilliant idea.

I believe it's ok to drop or change your journal preferences anytime! I said goodbye to my Hobonichi Cousin in Nov 2020 as the monthly+weekly+daily pages are taking a toll on me. Even though I keep seeing the Cousin gaining popularity recently I'm now content with my MD Diary 1 Day 1 Page as my memory keeper. It may be too early to say this but I may continue 2022 with MD Diary again 😊

I got into fountain pens this year too! Get sample inks rather than full sizes, that way you can play with a lot more colors without spending even a 1/7 of the price. I like getting samples from vanness. I'm in the second year with the hobonichi cousin, its my main planner. I use it for both work and personal. With fountain pens its certainly a lot of fun. I was planning a lot more in the weekly layout but when I'm busy I always forget to. I love using the daily pages to breakdown all of my tasks.

I am chomping at the bit to get started in my Spring start cousin! I've decided it's going to be my work/life planner while my Techo is my memory planner (less pressure to fill up those little pages but I do enjoy journaling most days) and my Week is my health/fitness/all other things tracker. At least that's the plan at the moment!

No shame in changing what you’re doing! I tend to flip back and forth between a bujo and a target planner depending on the month. Whatever I feel like my brain needs is what I do!

Hi, this was so helpful to watch. I found another of your videos where you showed your index system for your daily pages and I thought that was brilliant. I don’t have a hobo cousin but I tried the weeks in 2020 and couldn’t get on with the paper. I’ve since discovered it was the pen I didn’t like with the paper 🤦‍♀️ so now I’m contemplating the cousin because my planning style has changed from back then. I don’t use sticker kits; maybe some small icons and washi and a few added photos here and there in my journal. I was hoping this would work for me for next year as all the layouts that I need for specific things are in the same place and I could get back into using my fountain pen with the paper as well…… I’m seriously tempted. Just a tight budget so whatever I purchase I will have to stick with for the year. Thank you for sharing this!

It’s interesting to see the updates, thank you! Do you refer to the timestamps in the weekly layout when doing the memory keeping? When i tried it for pre-planning i found some time blocks ended up blank while others were chock full

I started using mine as an archival planner. It will have the weekly/monthly for reference with the daily pages for journaling/meals/workouts

I use my Weeks as an EDC and it is in my wallet. It has all my notes,grocery list doctor notes,ect... I transfer everything into the Cousin for memory keeping and journaling. I art journal and write in the daily section. The weekly section is just like my Weeks, personal event, appointments. The monthly sect is a time line of events and special days... holidays and Birthdays. I write down when events/news happen: example When pandemic started/ended... Etc... I throw away weeks at the end of the year. I keep my Cousin forever.

I am in the process of figuring out whether I want to use the cousin as my planner for 2022. I am debating between the cousin and the weeks. I am using the cousin as my family planner/ memory keeper and plan to use it again in 2022. I wonder if it would be weird to have two cousins?? thoughts anyone? xoxox
