Tyson from Inline/Ice Warehouse talks about hockey stick length and flex you should know about before buying a stick. Available at: www.icewarehouse.com/Hockey_St...
Hey Tyson, thanks for your great videos! I just received my new CCM Octo Gun 50. The stick arrived with a huge scratch on the blade (about 6cm long, I'm about to contact the dealer) which is quite deep. I just wondered whether this mark will have any effect on the durability of the stick? I heard about blades that broke because of water inside?
It depends on how much you cut off of the stick, I have an 85 flex stick, I cut about 9 inches off of it and it's now 107 flex, so it all depends on your size and weight and how long you want your stick to be, also take what type and brand stick your using into consideration, for example some sticks are made whippier and some made stiffer depending on the type and brand that you use, just take those ideas into consideration and you'll know what type of stick is best for you.
Hey guys, i just recently purchased an Easton Mako Shaft at a great price from your company. It's a 100 flex, it seemed a little short to me so I added a 2 inch extension to it. I'm 6'2"/245lbs. What flex should I be at and by adding the 2 inch extension to my 100 flex shaft what would the new flex of it be? Thanks for being such a great company. These videos rock!
@icehockeywarehouse Thank you for the explanation it really helped. One more question why would someone want the stick to be stiffer. Would a good shooter want a lower flex rating?
hi there guys i have been watching for a long time if only subbed for a year or so and wanted to ask a quick question I'm 23 years old about 6'2" in hight and 75kg and looking to get the right stick I'm a fast winger and looking for a sick that has a quick release and light to move just wanted to know the range to look in to thanks for the grate content and thanks for all the info
Ive noticed hockey is similar to snowboarding, skateboarding, and baseball. You measure the stick length just like a snowboards and theres a factor of flex, they're both in cold areas and use wax. I seen hockey players hit their sticks on stuff like how skaters bang their boards when their friend lands a trick. And with roller hockey and skating theres the wheel durometer and size and bearing abec's and stuff. And for the skates they have this oven bake form fit thing like they do sometimes for baseball gloves. Hockey seems to have its own little thing like baseball also with similar videos. Like these "whats in my equipment bag" videos n stuff.
I am 6'1 and I am 13 years old turning 14 next month. I was wondering which flex is better for me. I am 160 pounds. I Have A CCM RBZ Custom 01 and it has 85 flex. I also got a Reebok A.I 9 with 75 flex . Which one is the appropriate flex? I am a centermen and take mostly wrist shots and have a really fast release
yo so i just started i’m 13 and i don’t know if a 75 flex is good for me i can barely flex it so should i stay with this stick and get stronger or should i get a lower flex stick like 65
I'm 5'9 1/2, 13, but only 102 pounds. I've been using a 75 flex for a while and am used to it, but I was wondering if you think I should go down to a 65.
Hey Ive been using a intermediat stick but it's hard to stick handle and pass and recive passes I'm 5'3 I'm more of a dangler and zip off shots so I might get a v9 jr. I cut down a old x:60 to 52 inches about and I like it a lot off skates I might cut down the stick to a 60-65 flex and put a composite plug in. Do you sell jr composite extentions? Would the composite plug just make it whippier?
I'm 14, 5' 6 and 100 pounds. What flex should I get and should it be junior or intermediate? I bought a Intermediate Easton Mako M1 II with 65 flex because I wanted it to last longer, and I can't really flex it that much. Any suggestions?
Hey bud, im 5'8" and 140 too. I have always used an 75, I love a short stick so when I cut it down, depending on the brand I normally am left with between and 85-90 flex. This is just a tip, seeing as we are very similar in size/weight. Good luck, thats just my little information.
I have been using 85/87 flex sticks for awhile now and I'm just wondering if switching to a 77 flex would benefit me. I'm a 5'10 and 165 pound forward.
Thanks for replying so fast! Also for my height and weight should i get a senior or should i stick with intermediate for a couple more months? I'm 5'6 121 pounds and 13.
That rebok is so nice.. a guy at a store told me 102flex was ok for me.. im only 155lbs i can barely use it.. and i have another one that is 87 flex it is still hard for me to even use that 1.. im tempted to use my easton Z bubble from like 8 years ago and it has 50 flex!!!
Hey ice warehouse, I’m a 13 year girl starting beginner hockey. I’m 5’1 as far as height and I weigh 115 lbs. I’m super confused about what stick I should use I want to order one but I have no clue. Do you think you could help me find the right measurements for a stick? I was wondering if you have any specific sticks you could actually recommend.Thanks.
Every season I come up with 2 things I must do. This Winter season is learn how to ice skate backwards and learn how to play hockey. Should be fun lol.
@jonge95 I'm a big fan of bauer vapor's. They are amazing sticks. Ive heard people say the the blade breaks on slapshots. But i'm much like you, as i mostly use wristers and snapshots and havent experienced any problems. Super accurate stick.
Hi, Mr. Tyson, I would like to ask you whether you can make a video on this topic: The difference between traditional shaft with low kick design and the low kick shaft. I am looking af the shafts on IW web site but...I am not sure which shaft to buy. I do not know since when the low kick shaft is on the market. When I looked at the traditional shafts, I want to buy the CCM U+ Crazy, and it has low kick design.........I actually do not know what make it different from the low kick shafts...
Started playing hockey a few months back but unsure of whay stick flex to get. I currently use an intermediate Reebok 23k Ribcore but my pal who is the same height (5'1" ish) is using a junior stick. One difference between us is the weight, I weigh around 171lbs, not sure about him but probably a lot less since I'm not exactly skinny. Does this sound about right? Or should I get a junior one??
I'm currently looking at Bauer X:20, Easton EQ30, and Easton Stealth 65S. I started playing hockey a few months ago, I can only take wrist shots and snap shots. I'm 5'6 125 pounds. Which stick do you recommend and at what flex? And should I get intermediate or senior?
thank you also i was wondering if you knew of any curves for easton or bauer that are the same or similar to coffey of sherwood that i use now as i stated before..thanks
I tried my 50 flex junior stick to mess around at open ice, and i had way better stick handling w/ it b/c of the flex or b/c the blade was heavy and separated. Idk if the stick is supposed to flex wen you puck handle but it def helps me .. the 87 is to stiff and feels rly uncomfortable to stick handle unlss im playing D
Thanks I also ment to say I play Roller hockey should the flex rating be the same (87flex) and would the Bauer supreme one pro 3 be like the total one thanks
Hey i need some advice im 5 11 12 yeats old and 140 p i wanted to get a 75 flex stick but none exist my lenght in intermediate so i had to take an 85 flex any advice p.s if u give me any links make sure theyre canadian thank you in advance

Junior intermediate? also i have 3 questions 1 which is the best stick overall for wrist shots and snap shots 2 which is best for slappers and one timers and 3 whats it best for a right winger who hardly take slap shots but a lot of wrist shot and snap shots. sorry for the big question
Hi Tyson, My son is 11 1/2 yr's old, 61 inchs (5ft 1in) @ 117lbs. He has long legs and a mid length torso. (not sure this means anything when selecting a stick) He's currently using a Junior stick with a length of 55 1/2 inch. His current stick measures to his chin with skates on but seems to cramp his hand position. Questions; - Should he move to a intermediate stick? - Do you have a recommended brand and curve? Thanks!
Hello Ice Warehouse. I'm new to playing hockey and looking to start this year for the first time. I'm 31 years old, 5'5 and about 145lbs. I have no idea what kind of stick to get, size, or flex. I'm starting out really new to this, so what would be a good stick to first start out with? Thank you!
Sorry for the late response! I ended up buying new hockey skates and now I have saved up to buy hockey sticks. Thank you for the advice! I had no idea what kind to get and this gives me a good sense of what to look out for. My price range is under 200. Should I buy more than one stick? I'm right handed. Thank you so much for the help! You guys rock!
Dear icehockeywarehouse, I was just wondering what flex I should use. I am 4 foot 11 and 80 - 90 pounds. I take mainly wrist shots, but I sometimes take snap shots and slap shots. Right now I am just using a junior. Should I step up and use a intermediate? PLEASE REPLY SOON
Hey guys, I'm 5'11 and about 130-140 pounds. I want to get a new stick. I mostly take wrist shots and snap shots. What should the flex be on the new stick that I am going to get?
Hi there im 12 5,6 95pounds and i use a bauer apx2 65 flex is that good enoght? But just saying im one of the strongets kids on my team i can lift 300 pounds??? Whats best?? Im a defence man to???

Hi, Ice Warehouse. I am thinking about getting one of the bauer composite end plugs for my intermediate APX, but should I get the junior size or the senior? Thank you in advance.
Im 5'10" 350lbs and i love the getzlaf curve open face square toe should i use the 100 or 110 flex i have 85 at the minute and want to buy 4 new shafts what is your suggestion i want easton or ccm preferably
hey mate plan on getting a new twig from ice warehouse, im 21 years old, 5'7" and weigh 129lbs and pretty skinny lol. I also have small hands and only take wrist shots (i play forward), should I use a int or sr. ? and what flex?
Hi! I am 13 years 5'2 and 96lbs i take a lot of quick snapshots and I like to use as much flex as i can, being a small player, to maximize my shot power. What flex should I use?
so i just bought a warrior dt1 in a 70 flex intermediate now i usually use 75 flex senior how noticeable is the shaft dimension change going to be and will it affect my play thanks
Hey, I know this vid came out almost 5 years ago but I have an urgent question. I'm 13 years old at 5'7 and only 110 lbs. What flex and stick length should I use since I fit in both categories of intermediate and senior except in weight where I'm a junior, what should I do?
i have been thinking about getting the ccm rbz 60 and ive have been having a hard time deciding between senior and intermediate im 19 140 pounds i just started playing a year ago my uncle is 50 and 200 pounds and uses intermediate sticks and says im ok but i am worried about breaking one to quick what would you recommend
I have a CCM U+ Pro stick and I was wondering how I could take the paint off of the taper and the blade. Its chipping off the blade and I would like to just remove the whole thing
I have an old Bauer Vapor XXXX stick with a Senior shaft that tapers. But the blade is broken, so I was just thinking about cutting off the blade and putting a new one in. The obvious problem being that the stick tapers where I would put the new blade in, is there any way to buy a replacement blade for a tapered stick?
hi im kevin and i have stick problems since im about 5'4" or 5'5" and weigh about 125 pounds should i get an intermediate with a really light flex (like some warrior sticks) or should i add a buttend to a junior stick. any feedback is greatly appreciated
hi im david, i have a long reach and when i choose sticks, i find my arms are to long for it and i have to reach far out to get a good shot off, any advice for me and other people who have long or short arms?
Hi Tyson/Casey, I'm 5"9 155lbs and I play with the Warrior Widow stick 85 flex. However I need tu cut about 6 inches to get the proper length. Warrior say that even if you cut thier Widow stick you not loosing any flex...But not so sure! I'm now looking to buy a Widow Custom stick and was wondering if I should get a 75Flex. What do you think? Thx for your help!
Hi, I'm Walt, and i'm 11, looking to get a new stick. im 5'1"-5'2" and I weigh about 90 pounds, I play strictly stay-home defense, and I like a stick that comes up to around my nose on skates, as I like a long reach. What should I buy, an intermediate, a junior + a butt end?
Hi I'm in the market for a new stick and my dad is trying to convince me to use a p91a type curve. I have been using Salkic type curves exclusively for a long time and I agree that it's time for a change. I love the curve for wrist and snap shots but I find that clappers don't come off as cleanly as I'd like. Do you think that switching to a p91a curve would help with this problem? If it helps I play defence and I'm 5"9 155 lbs.
I'm 5'10" i have a 58" int stick lie 5.5. It is a bit tall for me, my top hand elbow bend when stick handling and i am using more of the heel portion of the blade instead of the whole blade lie flat on ground. I like to keep the puck close to me so i choose a lie 5.5. The stick is up to my eyes without skates on. How much should i cut my stick down?
heres the thing...i'm a 5"2 14 year old that uses a junior stick...but i like to have a stick with a 80 flex...and the stick length that i would like to use is the intermediate stick... so which stick size should i use??
im 5'8'' 138lbs i like a backstrom and the crosby curve i currently use a stick that i picked up from a market it isnt a brand name it is 50 flex i want a stick that isnt to expensive and a light stick i preffer bauer or reebok wich one do you reccomend.
so I have a Bauer vapor x3.0 87 flex i think.. the stick goes up to my eyebrows. I love having a stick with crazy amounts of flex. What would you're advice be on cutting it? if I cut it to my lip it goes up to 105 I think. Is having a shorter stick a lot easier to take more accurate or hard wrist/slap shots?
Quick question, if I weigh around 135 pounds and take mostly snapshots and am in an intermediate stick length what should I get? Also, is a stiffer or whippier stick better for snapshots/quickly elevating the puck?
Generally speaking, the butt end of the stick should be between your chin and your nose when you're in your skates. A whippier stick will be easier to lift the puck with compared to a stiffer stick. Chase at IW Hockey
I'm 6ft 170 pounds defence man I like the stick coming up to my nose or top lip when I'm on skates I play in jouner b I'm still deciding on what flex I should get
I got the warrior dolomite DD stick with grip, 75 flex with draper curve. My best advice is if your going to cut off a couple inches, go with a 75 flex, because getting a 85 then cutting some off is going to leave you with a stiff stick..
Hello ! I'm 15 years old 6feet and 140pounds. And I've just started playing hockey. Do you think I did the right thing buying Bauer Vapor X3.0 77flex ? Thanks !
i need help, im 5'8 130lbs . i have big hands, so an intermediate shaft is pretty small on me. i would have to cut the stick by an inch but the flex is too whippy . but when i use a senior stick, i always have to cut the stick by a lot, making the flex stiffness too much. please reply it would be helpful
I'm 5'6 125 pounds. I'm recently started playing recreational hockey. I can only do wrist shots in my league. What would be a good flex for me? Also, are there sticks that you recommend that are under $100?
