Hello Matt! To my ear, the EzeeDrones sounded smoother and richer in all three sets and out of the three, I like the sound of the Henderson set best! Thank you for making this video! Cheers!
Eezedrones on all sets, just more blended and less harsh, more refined. Best was difficult, probably a bit of prejudice, but Heritage set for me. Impressed by the McCallum plastics though. I have a set of inherited cocuswood Thows made in 1907 so am very reluctant to take them travelling. So I am contemplating getting a plastic travelling set and the McCallums will be a candidate after hearing them during your test (but it will be with Eezedrones!). Thanks for the video.
Listening to these with Sure440 studio monitoring headphones. I'm tied between the Hein RH04 and McCallum P2, though the PH Heritage set is quite excellent as well. I think that comes down to personal taste. Overall, I prefer the sound of the EzeeDrone reeds (esp with inverted bass). They blend so smoothly and are warm. All the same, I do enjoy how the other reeds can be less warm and more buzzy; they're all fun! Maybe you should have a "Drone Reed Prescription" sticker XD Fav combos: Ezee with McCallum, Carbon with Hein, and Std with Heritage.
Matt, I'm curious about the tuning and strike in of the reeds in comparison to each other? Did you note any variety or difficulties in tuning, start up, and moisture affects? Thanks
That's why I included the strike in and cut off of each set/reed combo in the first go round. All three sets strike in and cut off great! It's hard to say if one was better than another in that regard.
