The Hogwarts corridors stretched ahead, the dim light casting an air of mystery as I walked. The aftertaste of a grueling Potions class still lingered, leaving me feeling drained and slightly defeated. The professor had thrown challenging concoctions our way, and my efforts to master them had left me frustrated. A nagging doubt lingered - was I really cut out for this?
Eager to shake off my self-doubt, I made my way to the Potions classroom. The scent of ingredients and bubbling cauldrons filled the air, the atmosphere thick with anticipation. As I settled into my seat, I noticed someone taking the seat beside me - Ominis Gaunt, a fellow Slytherin. We hadn't crossed paths much before, and curiosity piqued as I wondered why he had chosen to sit here today.
The class began, and the professor animated explanations filled the room. Yet, as the minutes ticked by, Ominis seemed increasingly restless. His gaze kept drifting towards the window, and it was clear his attention was anywhere but on the potion being brewed.
Just as I thought he might actually doze off, he leaned towards me, his voice barely above a whisper. "Hey, can you do me a favor? Let me know if the professor starts to notice me snoozing."
His sudden request took me off guard, and I nodded in agreement, a bit puzzled. After all, we hadn't exchanged more than a few words before. Still, I couldn't help but wonder what led him to choose me for this task.
As the class continued, Ominis's eyelids grew heavier, and he struggled to keep his eyes open. I watched as he fought a losing battle against sleep, his head bobbing slightly. Yet, every time the professor attention shifted, Ominis would snap awake, a look of feigned concentration on his face.
With each struggle, I found myself more invested in Ominis's plight, silently cheering him on. There was something oddly endearing about his determination to stay awake, even if his methods were comical.
Eventually, Ominis's efforts faltered, and his head drooped. I discreetly nudged him, and he shot me a grateful smile. The professor gaze swept over the room, but he seemed blissfully unaware of Ominis's predicament.
After class, Ominis turned to me with a sheepish grin. "Thanks for the assist. You're a real lifesaver."
I chuckled, finding his gratitude charming. "No problem. You were quite the actor back there."
Ominis's special eyes twinkled with amusement. "Well, desperate times call for desperate measures."
As we walked out of the classroom together, I couldn't shake the feeling that this encounter was the start of something unexpected. Our brief interaction had brought about a connection that I hadn't anticipated.
"By the way," Ominis began, "I don't think you know my name."
I smiled, realizing we had yet to exchange introductions. "You're Ominis, right?"
He nodded, his smile growing. "That's right. Slytherin through and through."
