This lesson will explain how to create new custom user interfaces in Hearts of Iron 4. It covers the basic functions of making graphical elements appear/disappear, attaching interfaces to other elements in the game and creating dynamic lists.

I knew I forgot to mention something but after 3 hours of recording my brain was a mess of jelly. If you want to attach your scripted gui to decisions you do that via the decision category file. Just add the line scripted_gui = NAME_OF_YOUR_GUI_FROM_BEHAVIOUR_FILE You can see how it's done with the USA congress system which can be found in Steam\steamapps\common\Hearts of Iron IV\common\decisions\categories\USA_decision_categories.txt

This is very cool! Do you know how to change the Text Font for Countrys? What I mean is the text that is on top of the countries when you load the game. Would be awesome to know how to do it because I have been struggling with it.

How do you make a custum GUI in the relations tab (the tab next to diplo not the one where you can see the relations?) i still have no clue (especially to make the flags stack/move with every new country)

Very interesting and rich with information video! However I wonder if what I intended to do is even possible; which is to create a custom window or to override the existing one where you assign equipment to certain divisions in the division manager. My idea was to group them in tiers and sort by experience added to the variants, perhaps - again, if that's possible - giving them some kind of annotations to better recognize foreign equipment. Given that next step would be to add a check box button to assign/unassign the whole tier at once. Would that be possible with scripted GUI? Could you advise me where to start and what to look for?

Heyo, this video was great! I do have a question though, is it possible to make hovering over buttons display stuff, eg: like hovering over decisions? I've made a mod that's currently based in decisions, and would like to build a custom gui for it. I've made the gui, and currently adding buttons, and was wondering if there was a way for me to add more information via hover overs? If not, I'll probably have the buttons open up smaller gui's with this info. Thanks :)

Hi, I am a bit puzzled: I have tried to reload the game (from the main menu), but the game keeps showing the giant "X" and on top of it the decision to open does not reset after being completed (even if it is set it to fire_only_once = no)... What could be wrong with my game? :-/ Do you have any special setting to reset the decision? :-? P.S.: I have understood what I was doing wrong: Reload the game means "reload from desktop", right??! :O (And the decisions resets at the end of day even if is listed as not to fire only once...fire only once = no is equal to days_re_enable = 1!! :-/ )

I made a custom bookmark choosing interface where I made both bookmarks 1936 and made them overlap (I want to remove the 1939 bookmark). I am pretty sure that the .gui file works since when I drag it into the interface folder *after* i launched the game, it worked as intended. However, if I launch the game with my custom .gui file already in the interface folder, it would not work and will show two 1936 bookmarks. I am sure that it is not the .gui file itself that caused issue because I also tested with the .gui file from the TNO mod. How could I fix that?

Excellent work with your mods and videos, they're very good! I'm planning to do a translation mod but I've never done a mod before and I don't know which files I should add to the mod folder apart from the localisation. Could you do a tutorial on how to do a translation mod or tell me which files I should add to my mod folder? Thanks!!!

Antonio Gutierrez Put depencies = { “NAME_OF_THE_MOD” } in both .mod files. The game will now read this mod as its primary source. You can then just take the localisation files of the mod and edit them to your preferences.

No need to "link", just create a localization file and put all of your text there like you would with events/decisions/focuses.

Changing buttons is just changing the graphic files used by these buttons... Don't know what FPS map is.

Can you please help? When I edit the text in the YML File, teh text does not update in game. Everything else updates, but not the text in YML file. I always have to reload the game top display the new text. I am in Debug-Mode. Seems that yours is working. Any zip? BTW thanks for this great video help.

A known issue, you can solve this by changing something about the interface and saving the file... Or just by copy+paste and element. As soon as the game recognizes that a GUI file was changed or saved it will auto refresh the inteface.
