Hi, I just wanna add something. If you guys want to make ur own ideology to increase like a democratic reformer u could just create ur own trait in the ingame files and assign the newly created trait to the advisor. I tested it myself and it works fine. Thanks for the tutorial tho ill explore more in the ingame files so maybe I can improve it myself.👌

Thanks for your great videos. I am totally new to HOI scripting and I want to script the GUI. I watched your video about GUI scripting but there I got problems. I read about not to send you questions about modding, but... I need to bulid a containerWindowType within a parent containerWindowType. The inner container should contain a TextboxType which gets it´s text from my YML-file. That works, but the text is too long and it did not display the hole text and displays "..." I have to make the TextboxType scrollable. So I tried to add a scrollbar, but it does not display at the TextboxType - maybe I am doing it wrong, maybe this will not work. I cannot find an example how to do this. Maybe you can make another video about this topic? Other thing is how to do a listboxType and then fill the listboxType with entries. Maybe filling it with simple strings which came for variables or better fill it with some TextboxTypes and make the listboxType scrollable. Would be great if you can explain it within a video too. Arrays are a problem for me too. Filling a listboxType from a simple array which contains simple text strings.. all the examples with arrays are targeting to countries i found, or are arrays only for using country related properties to fill with? If you cannot do a video, could you please answer how to add a scrollbar to a TextboxType and a example of filling a listboxType? I do not find any examples and help in the Wiki and searching for hours.. Perhaps it would be easy for you to give me an example how to add a scrollbar in your Spongebob GUI example to the songebob speech text? Thanks! Konni

iron workshop just to let you know the ideology_group files are the ideology itself, the ideology icons without _group are for subideologies, which is why pdx did that with anarchism, because anarchism isn't its own ideology anarchism is subideology of non-aligned

I found out,he forgot to put the icon for ideology. I don't know did you manage to find how you should insert that photo you made for a ideology,but after some time I found the solution. Even tho I mod on Mac OS, I don't think it would be a problem. Anyway I mod on 1.12.1 version. So what do you have to do is go to Interface vanila game folder and find something called and open it(but before you copy it to your folder where you made your mod). Then I assume you're on windows so press ctrl + F to like find something. And like write communism or democratic whatever. You will find down somewhere like it would say something like this: (this is for democratic) spriteType = { name = "GFX_ideology_democratic_group" texturefile = "gfx/interface/ideologies/democratic_group.dds" } Now you copy that, and paste it under or where you like it. And instead of democratic write your ideology here is my example: I created conservatism and if you want your ideology for example let it be monarchism like he did in video then it would go like this: spriteType = { name = "GFX_ideology_monarchsim_group" texturefile = "gfx/interface/ideologies/monarchism_group.dds" } And then it should work,I would test it now. It should probably work. Reply if it didn't work,now I go test it. EDIT: I tested it and it worked!

Great tutorials! They have helped me create mods for HOI4. I was wondering if you could do more videos on EU4. That game is new to me and although has some similarities, it's still very different from HOI4. Not too many videos on youtube that cover heavy modding for EU4. @@mat-qh7sf if I want to mod a new ideology ' Extreme Nazism ' , I need to create the new ideology type in 00_ideologies.txt like the tutorial says , the create a picture file in gfx\interface\ideologies\extreme_nazism. dds(or .png) , to connect the picture with the correct ideology , I must keep the ideology names of the picture and the 00_ideologies.txt same ("extreme_nazism") , then ' mark '(I dont know how to describe the process ) the picture in a .gfx file in \interface (the name of the .gfx file doesn't matter) with the code I've sent you , so that the game can recognize the picture file and match it with the correct ideology . I am not a native speaker , sorry for the unclear explaining

@@c0br4l0rd8 no im talking about an event that attaches small bonuses to a unit based on a badass soldier thats fighting with them. not large bonuses that come with the veterancy system or the general leading the unit. i haven’t explored the idea at all yet because i still dont know if that’s possible. im guilty of not exploring what even makes the ace event popoff for vanilla pilots.

it certainly is possible, but i think you should spend the tens of hours of programming and the additional hundreds of hours of debugging in something different then something like that. I myself have not figuered out the problem why my states overlap after 3 months of debugging and rewriting the entirety of my mod, which creates a whole new map.

how do you replace current party leaders? I want to create a germany where SPD under Otto Wels takes power as democratic fashion rather than Adenauer. I've recreated all these steps but Adenauer still takes power as leader of the democratic faction even though i removed him from any of the files in the mod folder.

I don't know if you will respond to this, but i'm having trouble with my leader portrait, ideology icon and flag not showing up. I created a new leader, made a portrait for him and put the whole gfx_portrait_name_name thing in the picture thingy, but it still won't show up. I tried searching for the 'characters' folder in case i needed to do something there, but there is no such thing in my game. I did everything that was shown in the video with the ideology icon, but when i change the ideology it shows the 'unknown' icon. Same is with the flag, it's just black and doesn't show the one i made.

Okay,I don't know did you figure out yet. I can for now help you with ideology icon. So one thing about characters folders not showing up,is because you don't have a No Step Back DLC I think. I modded earlier and didn't have DLC's and wanted to mod characters and on the start of the video when I wanted to copy that folder,it wasn't there. So I don't think it would really work then. But for ideology icon tho I have solution. I replied to one guy as well. So here is solution,I don't know will it work but from my personal perspective I think it should work. So how do you do it? Well first thing go to interface folder in vanila game, and you should find this file: countrypoliticsview.gfx So you copy it and paste it into your interface folder that you created earlier. Next step is you open it with Notepad ++ I assume,I am not Windows user,instead I am a Mac user,so I use other program but for you it's probably Notepad ++. Anyway you open it and press ctrl + F to like find text you want and write like democratic or communism And then it should drop you somewhere if you find something for democratic then it would be like this: spriteType = { name = "GFX_ideology_democratic_group" texturefile = "gfx/interface/ideologies/democratic_group.dds" } So when you find it like that,it can be communism or whatever ideology,you copy it and paste it under or where you like it. And you're gonna change some things. Here I will explain through an example. So let's use monarchism as he used in video then that group would go like this: spriteType = { name = "GFX_ideology_monarchism_group" texturefile = "gfx/interface/ideologies/monarchsim_group.dds" } If you made something else for ideology I don't know for example Islamism or something what you made then you would write this: spriteType = { name = "GFX_ideology_islamism_group" texturefile = "gfx/interface/ideologies/islamism_group.dds" } I hope it helped. Now I tested it and it worked! So I hope it works for you as well. I know I replied late because it's after one year,but I hope I helped!

i used this tutorial, and when i opened the game, alll the countries were my custom ideology. any ideas why? On top of this, it was the only selectable ideology, all the other ones didn't show up on the pie chart. My custom ideology had 0 support but was the only option. it gave a ton of errors aswell.

Hello there. Probably it's (was?) because instead of adding the ideology to the others you totally replaced them, leaving yours as the only ideology in the parties file. Also, it may be that you did not do that but there's a parenthesis error somewhere and for some reason the game doesnt think the other entrances are ideologies...

You need to assign your path to your icon. Interface folder → countrypoliticsview.gfx.

So, my new ideology works but my icon for my ideology somehow isn't showing. Bummer you didnt show that it worked with you. Also, what is the file we rename "new_ideology_graphics" for ? You also spelled it wrong in the video ( 4:48 ) idology. I also made a typing mistake, searched it for an hour. never typing stuff again.

You can just assign the ideology to the leader of your country, or make it the superior ideology by making it 100 and the other ideologies 0 in the main country.txt file

I am making a mod about new countries and new ideologies, I dunno why, but all countries are switching to the first ideology in the "00_ideologies" file, though I've changed ruling parties in other countries to other ideologies, and when I try to change the first ideology in the "00_ideologies" file, for example to Communism, all countries are switching to Communism, what should I do?

would it be possible to create a mod where all countries have kings AND elections, which change only the policies, not the state leader ? So what do you have to do is go to Interface vanila game folder and find something called and open it(but before you copy it to your folder where you made your mod). Then I assume you're on windows so press ctrl + F to like find something. And like write communism or democratic whatever. You will find down somewhere like it would say something like this: (this is for democratic) spriteType = { name = "GFX_ideology_democratic_group" texturefile = "gfx/interface/ideologies/democratic_group.dds" } Now you copy that, and paste it under or where you like it. And instead of democratic write your ideology here is my example: I created conservatism and if you want your ideology for example let it be monarchism like he did in video then it would go like this: spriteType = { name = "GFX_ideology_monarchsim_group" texturefile = "gfx/interface/ideologies/monarchism_group.dds" } And then it should work,I would test it now. It should probably work. Reply if it didn't work,now I go test it. EDIT: I tested it and it worked! By the way I copied almost same text to the guy that I replied earlier

I know this lesson is not from this video but sense this is the one most recently uploaded I thought you are more likely to see this. Its from the creating a focus lesson. Im trying to make a mod for a friends birthday and I have followed your steps in the video. Somehow it wont "overwrite" the normal ingame files and when I boot the game up in the debug or regular mode it wont even register that I have my new mod installed. I did do as you wrote in the comments with the "english" folder under localisation but still nothing happens. I would love to have the mod done within a few months so I can present it for him at his birthday. So if anybody can help me with what i am doing wrong, I would be so grateful thx

To clarify i can see the mod in the launcher but even when activated nothing even happens
