Extremely well articulated and informative. Also liked that it was all about the shoe. Some RU-vidrs try to make it all about themselves and that can be tiresome. I have some foot issues at the moment and thorough, good quality videos like this one, help me sort out what might work before ordering something. Thanks for the opinions and info.

Great vid Tim 👍 I have a pair of Clifton 7’s for easy days but find I get blisters around the foot arch. Just bought today the novablast 2 for my easy/recovery runs.. hoping these will be good 🤞🏻
@@dennykristianto8123 nova blast for me are a lot softer and preferred the fit. Clifton 7 fit small so would recommend going a size up if go for them. Just got the Nike invincible run flyknit 2.. really nice easy day shoe
Hoka Clifton 8s feel a lot like Brooks Glycerin and the Novablast 3! All of them amazing to me which makes sense since they are all the same show in different brands! Thanks!!!
Wow. I ordered the Novablast 2 but decided to cancel them at the last minute and purchase the rebel v2 instead. I’m happy to hear I made the right choice.
@@traderhines76 for daily training, you didn’t IMO. I own both the rebel v2 and novablast 2 and they’re quite different. Much prefer novablast for daily miles and rebel v2 for tempo speed work
@@MattD86 You can use the rebel v2 for daily training. You couldn’t with the first version. I have both. I have the first version of the Novablast as well (3 pairs actually) and its springy and responsive although heavier than my other shoes. Excellent for daily training and long runs. I am one of those runners that simply can’t run in heavy shoes especially if it is not responsive. The first version of the Novablast is the exception for me however.
Unfortunately, the Novablast 2 didn't work for me at my usual 8.5. Fortunately for me, a running buddy ordered the wrong size Saucony Endorphin Speed. So, we traded. Great video as always,Tim!
Just had my first run in the Novablast 2 on Friday morning. I felt that the ride was firmer than I expected. Didn’t quite feel the spring and bounce most people are experiencing. I don’t have the Clifton 8 but I do have the 7s and I felt that my 7s were more cushioned even after 390k in them. However I do like the fit of the Novablast 2 and the upper felt breathable in very humid conditions.
@@terencetan236 Curious how everything worked out for you. I've run in the Novablast and Novablast 2's the last year and am thinking of switching to the Clifton 8's...would you recommend the Cliftons over the NB 2's?
@@brettlowden6752 I eventually did get a pair of the Clifton 8 and I do prefer them to the Novablast 2 as I feel the Clifton’s are better suited for the everyday easy run for me. More cushioned and more forgiving when I get tired and sloppy. I find my ankle starts to roll in the Novablast 2 when tired.
I find the heel counter of the Clifton 8 a lot less secure than Novablast 2. Even with runner's knot, Clifton 8 still feels a little loose. I don't need to use runner's knot with Asics shoes.

LoL.... Yes pick up both. Running shoes are so expensive is awesome when they go on sale. All of these are great. The Mach 4 is my favorite for speed work. The Asics Novablast 2 is probably the most versatile for me. I wear them all the time even when I'm not running. The upper fits great and they have a wok cushioned midsole. The Clifton is also a great all around shoe that I'm comfortable taking out for any workout, speed, easy, and long runs. The Skechers MaxRoad 5 while a great shoe would rank last in the list of these. They are very lightweight and quick though. The midsole has a rocker design that wants to propel you forward. I noticed the first NovaBlast. Shoe is different too, I bought 2 pairs. First one has holes in the toe area and the other doesn't have any holes. The heel is a bit different too. I wonder if different Cities make only a couple of color shoes. And yeah, on the NovaBlast 2. Some shoes don't have pull tab.

Hi Astry. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. I am constantly working on improving my overall running form. My right foot especially is subject to issues since I use my right hand to hold and film my run with. It throws off my counter balance arm swing trying to hold the camera still and that impacts my stride. A few months ago I went through a pre marathon assessment with a company called Netic Health physical therapy. They have done an excellent job to help me work out some of my running form concerns. I have the Novblast 1 and it feels so soft, truly marshmallow-like bouncy feeling. But it’s very unstable. Does anyone have experience with both the Novablast and the Novablast 2? I love Asics but have been looking at Hokas to find something super cushioned but more stable.
Hoka is great. The Clifton is favorite for many runners. The Novablast 2 and 3 are much more stable. They are highly cushioned and fun to run in. I really enjoy them both. Have a great day. Have fun shoe shopping!

Hi Tim. OK so I'm a bit confused now, which one between Nova blast 2 and Clifton 8 is more plush and softer midsole? How about throwing in the Bondi 7 as a 3rd pair? Which one would be softest to stand or walk long?
The Bondi 7 would be my choice of I were on my feet all day. All three are highly cushioned. The Novablast 2 has more going on in the heel as far as cushion goes. And I think they are faster than the Clifton. The Clifton is a very comfortable shoe and I think does great at moderate paces. Have s great weekend!
I had the Clifton 7s last year but bought the Novablast 2 this year and my ASICS don't have the heel tab. I think the colourway decides whether you get it or not (same goes for the different badge on the tongue)
Hey thanks for watching. There isn't a big difference between the Clifton 7's and the 8's. If you like the 7's I think you'd like the 8's as well. The upper on the 8's fits me better than the 7's. Both are great daily trainers. The Novablast 2 is also a good daily trainer but has lost the wow factor that the first version had. I like the Novablast 2. The only issue I've had with them is on a treadmill. They felt a little clunky to me. I wasn't able to find a smooth stride on the treadmill for some reason. But outdoors on the sidewalks, pavement, and even hard packed dirt trails they did great. Let me know how it goes. Have a great day.
Apart from the heel drop, do you think the Hoka Clifton 8 is in the same category as the Asics Cumulus 23? or is much softer than Cliftons? Looking to have 10mm Cumulus 23 for a bit faster 5k runs and 5mm Clifton 8 shoes for easy 5k to 10k - Do you think this would be fine, or should maybe choose something else than Cumulus 23? Thank you
Hi Maciej. Unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity to run in the Cumulus 23. I like the Clifton 8 as a solid comfortable daily trainer. The ran Fartleks this past week in the Novablast 2's and they did great. I think for my next 5K race I'm leaning toward the Nike ZoomX Streakfly. They are comfortable and very quick. Both are great choices. I think the 1080V11's do feel a little softer in the midsole but the Clifton 8's feel a little faster. I prefer the heel design in the Clifton over the 1080's. ive got the clifton 6s and 1080v10. right out of the box, the 1080s ride is really firm. almost jarring. i didnt understand how people felt it was plush. it sure was responsive. but now that ive clocked 300+ km in the 1080s, it has soften up a whole lot but not in a bad way. i like the balance between softness & having the same responsiveness. the cliftons do feel like i'm sinking into marshmallows. its quite a contrast between the two. i love the cliftons for easy, crusin along recovery days. in the 1080s, i can pick up the pace since its more responsive. weight wise, clifton def wins. it sure is light for the amount of material it has. just my opinion (:

Bought Clifton 6 and Novablast v1 'bout the same time. Still have the Clifton going strong. Sold the Novablast v1 after 2 runs. Don't know if I trust the Novablast V2.

The Aurora BL feels a little more bouncy and a little faster. I think the new DNA loft they are using has a bit more energy return plus they are lighter and that helps them feel a little faster. Hey Damjan. The Novablast isn't for everyone. It has a history of being somewhat of a polarizing running shoe. Asics addressed many of the issues with version 1.
