For version 2, Hoka changed the upper, the midsole, and the carbon fiber plate. And while the Carbon X2 made a very good showing for it's debut at the Hoka Project Carbon X2 100k, how is it for non elites?

Thanks for this Michael. Great info to know, but with my wide foot it will likely never fit me. Nice to see you back running in beautiful Chicago, not that the Iowa countryside was not beautiful also. But you make me so nervous running along the edge of that wall and on the frozen ice of the lake! I took a fall last weekend on a slippery rock on an otherwise bare dirt trail and landed hard on my right thumb pad. It was black and blue for a week but thankfully no broken bones! Be careful out there!

After getting, and seriously hating the X1, I was ready to write this off, but I LOVE the FuelCell TC and the comparison to that is super positive in my book. Would you say that its like a TC with a rocker? And I hear that its softer than the X1, but how would it compare to the TC? Would love to see a comparison of the 2 actually :)

Interesting review, I bought the Rocket X to replace my New Balance TCs but although the Rocket X is a good shoe, and I feel you can lock-in a decent rhythm they just don’t feel as fast as say the Vapourfly. I think the TC was better. I’m interested in the Carbon X2 as more a long distance trainer, that keeps the legs feeling good.
@Neilveg
@Neilveg 3 года назад
The Carbon X2 is feeling better than the TC for my running style but early days for the X2. The X2 is a lot more stable than the TC and I would predict getting more mileage out of the X2 as well. The positioning of the Carbon plate suits me more than in the TC.

I’ve run extensively in X1, and one thing I don’t understand about the X2 design is how moving the plate closer to the ground helps them be more forgiving? I would think moving the plate more to the middle of the padding would make them feel better a la Vaporfly.

You'd think with technology these days that there would be some way that manufactures could reduce the stack height of shoes. The stack height of Hoka One One are one the things that keep me from purchasing this shoe. It just raises the center of gravity way too high for taller runners... and if you're on a curving route there comes time where confidence comes into question. I look forward to the time where they just about 1/2 the height of the shoe with better tech in materials to accomplish what their shooting for with the shoe.

I had the original CarbonX and in Hoka in general I had to go with 8.5 whereas I wear a 9 in most running shoes (Brooks, Saucony and others) and only rarely 9.5 in some NB and Nike shoes that run short IMO. I also size down to 8.5 in adidas (Boston eg) as I find they run long as well. If I were to get the CX2, I’d definitely order my smaller size based on their being even longer than the original CX.

I think your review told everything needed to be known about this shoe. I think the explanation for the carbon plate to work better in this version than in the former one has to do with the midsole material. The carbon plate in any shoe needs a surface softer than itself, so it will work like a kind of trampolim, so to speak. If it hits a very hard surface it will not work. This is physics and I believe this was the greatest problem with the first version: it was hard beyond the measure to allow the plat to work in it’s full potential.

I had the original and while it was a smooth, comfortable shoe, I agree that it was on the deader side with its “plain” EVA compared to what v.2 sounds like in Kofuzi’s very detailed description/comparison. Also, in the end the original was narrow in the toebox and started creating callouses on the medial side of my feet at the big toe metatarsals. And I have a medium/narrow foot. V2 seems to have a more generous toebox in terms of width from what he is saying. Martha

I ran the 10k portion of my triathlon in them. they were great, but they would not be my first choice. all the preceding assumes we were talking about racing and not every day training.

How much space did you end up having at the front of the toe box given you thought the shoe ran long?
@wonkydonkey7899
@wonkydonkey7899 3 года назад
Everyone’s feet are different, so the space at the toe area is vary. You need the space because your feet swell during the run. The last thing you want is having your toes cramped. That said, the version 2 does run a little longer. Some people go half a size down. I’d still advise that you stay true to size.
@thehossdog1
@thehossdog1 3 года назад
@@wonkydonkey7899 hey thanks, yes I know you need space at the toe box but as these run long I wondered how much was there to feel like sizing down might be the option.
@wonkydonkey7899
@wonkydonkey7899 3 года назад
@@thehossdog1 the carbon x2 is widely available currently. It won’t hurt to pay your local sporting good stores a visit that carry Hoka one one, and try them on to get a perfect fit. You can always order two sizes online and return the one that fits too long to your liking. I hope this helps. P.s if I told you it left a thumb’s space in my toe box, it wouldn’t necessarily mean you’d have the same space as mine depending on the length of our toes, which are different from person to person.

I am thinking about this being my first carbon plated shoe..., it’s between this and the metaracer ..
@kofuzi
@kofuzi 3 года назад
I would decide by distance. If you’re going to be running marathons, then X2. Shorter than half marathon, Metaracer
@levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183
@levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183 3 года назад
Having had the original Carbon X, even though knowing v.2 is more responsive, I’d agree with kofuzi that up to HM, you should go with the Metaracer. I think the CarbonX will shine at longer distances but be less nimble at shorter, faster races.

As someone with both of these I agree, the endorphin speed is also a faster shoe! The one caveat is for anything > 15 miles I’d choose the x2. Just personal preference I think the hoka midsole more forgiving for longer distance

I’ve got the Endo speed 2. I tried the marathon distance in it. After 26 KM i changed my shoes and ran the remaining distance in my Asics nimbus. Honestly, i love the speed i get from m Endorphins but stability wise, I wouldnt take them past 21.1 km again!

Just some feedback for reviewing. I have very wide feet and I am a US 13. This pretty much eliminates 90% of all trendy shoes. Hoka, Nike, Adidas, etc are all write offs for me. When you talk about fit, it would be great if you explicitly mention whether the shoe is suitable for people with wide feet because it sucks so hard to watch a bunch of reviews, get excited about a product, and then realise it’s not for you.

Asics has the Noosa Tri. I believe when the ASICS endorsement was going to expire, ASICS did not have any carbon plate shoes and that was a handicap for him. He run in a Metaracer prototype, but it seems he didn’t like it.

I enjoy your videos. I need help with something that I don’t see you discuss on your channel. You are in great shape. I am a man 5ft9” I was 215 pounds now I’m 174 pounds. I eat mostly vegetarian I’m jogging more and I was told to lift weights at a fast pass and by doing that I won’t get big muscles I’ll just get lean and tone not skinny fat! But what can I do now. I can’t loss anymore weight I want to be 155 pounds. I can’t really lower calories or burn anymore I work And only have so many hours in a day. How can I get to 155 which would be my idea runners body! Please help thank you
@kofuzi
@kofuzi 3 года назад
my first recommendation would be to consult a registered dietician - preferably one who has experience working with runners and athletes. other than that, I would stop focusing on the number and instead focus on living an active lifestyle. do you like the running and the weight lifting that you're doing? if not, find some activities that you do enjoy. and find a way to really pour yourself into those activities. if you like basketball, don't just play more basketball. really think about how to train and improve. and then wherever that takes you, go there enthusiastically. when I started training for half marathons and marathons, I found myself passing on dinner beers because I wanted instead to feel great for my morning run. and then I stopped thinking about food as good or bad and instead thought about which foods would best fuel my runs and recoveries. from an outside perspective, it may have looked like I was giving up treats or making sacrifices. but to me, I was making room for gratifying experiences and a better understanding of my own body. I was performing better than I ever thought I could. and I overall just felt better than I ever had before. losing weight was a side effect. I don't really think about weight.
