Hi Edd, loving the reviews. My rocket X’s were delivered a few days ago and already have 30 miles in them. First run was only meant to be 6 but the shoes were that light and responsive I just carried on for a half marathon. Love how easy the turn over is in these shoes and fully agree that they are very stable for a carbon plated racing shoe.
In Australia, they are selling these for $300. We are getting taken for a ride by Hoka here on pricing. They are much more expensive than they should be given the price in the US $180 and UK 140 pounds. I'd like to give them a chance. Maybe if they were selling them here at $250 I would. I had a pair of Carbon X I got in August still sitting in the box when I saw the pre-order for this. Fortunately even though I was outside the 90 day period, my running store allowed a clean exchange and will have this tomorrow. Am excited to try this for tempo runs.
Now, I needed you to hate these shoes, the Mrs might not appreciate another pair in my already impressive/bloated running shoe rotation. Great call on the movie. That is a staple in the house during the holiday season. One I could legitimately watch each day and never get tired of. Great review...and I’m totally not going to go out and buy a pair (or at least that’s what I’m telling the wife).

Love your channel. As always you delivered another great video. I really like the Rocket X. It's been moved to the top of my list as my 1/2 marathon racer over the Endorphin Pro and RC Elite. I'm not a Hoka fan because I don't think their traditional EVA midsole foams are the best. With that said, I have been trying all of the new plated shoes so I gave these a go as well. The foam is definitely not the most responsive, but I actually really like this shoe. I think it makes one of the best plated fast day trainers. The shoe is well cushioned, stable, feels like it will be pretty durable, the rocker isn't aggressive, and it feels good at easy and fast paces. The fact that it is a bit cheaper works well in its favor for this too, but it wouldn't be my top choice for a racer. I think it is actually a lot better than the Tempo Next% in this regard because it transitions between slow/fast paces way better instead of just for fast paces. I'd put this in there with the Endorphin Speed and TC. It is actually much easier to really wind up fast than the TC and more natural at easy paces as well while being cheaper than the TC. So it really might be up there with the Endorphin Speed.

Thats a high score! I am very hesitant to try this because of the carbon x. But I am glad to hear that the midsole now is more forgiving than the carbon x and it lighter!. Maybe i will give it a try next year Too many racing shoes for me right now😅. Keep safe there edbud! Keep it up!

You mentioned long laces...I just got some Rincón 2s and the laces on those seem long as well. New trend from Hoka? BTW, “Christmas Vacation” was good, but “Christmas Story” is the one I watch over and over!

This may be the carbon plated shoe for me! However half interest in the carbon x2. And the Mach 4 (obviously not plated). But very very interesting. 3 for value. Definitely deserved. 11.4 out of 12. Is that a record? Are you on first name terms with the dpd/dhl/hermes and Royal Mail delivery person?
I always want to love hokas, but I do feel that recently they’ve been left behind in the future of midsoles. The eva foam they use doesn’t seem to give back a ton of energy in most of their shoes. Once they change it up I think they will get a bunch of good press
Hey man is that a good long run shoe or u got any good recommendations for a good long run shoe my long runs are from 16 to 26 miles every Sunday and mid runs are 10 to 14 miles usually I run those alot too so I need a good shoe thank u
Edd what do you think about the durability of hoka's? I love the Clifton 6 and the rincon 2 but both only lasted me 300km and then they were just ripped to shreds on the outsole Shame as the cushioning for those easy runs is a delight
Hey Eddbud, do you find these shoes more of a race fit that other normal Hokas? I always take UK8.5 in Hoka (US9) but these are noticeably shorter in length than my cliftons/rincons. Wondering it mine is a defect or whether it's meant to be like this? Width is fine 🤔
I’ve just picked up the red version here in France as I’m training for the Barcelona marathon in November and lace length and lockdown is fine with no bunching of material,interestingly all the rocket x reviews are of the blue shoe.Any coincidence in this ?
Well am feeling a bit of a fraud as a show reviewer at moment as still can't run but did manage a 2 mile walk in my Rocket X today (as you do)! On sizing I first ordered the UK 12.5 as I have that size in the Rincon & Carbon X but they felt too short for me so went and ordered the 13.5 as well as will definitely send the 12.5 back. So, like you, if in doubt go up I would say. Initially they felt narrow but Hoka tends to be quite "straight" and would share a feeling would need to pull in the laces a fair bit for an actual run and, even so, plenty of lace length. Could be that the tongue is a racing style minimal so little to lock the foot down bar tightening the laces. Just walking they felt relatively firm but certainly not odd to walk in so yeah think could well work at slower paces or very very slow in my case. Will have to reserve judgement as a "racer". Gut feeling is that will be another training only option for me but I am hoping it will be the first Hoka have actually liked as did not get on with the Rincon or Carbon X.
@@PoetWithPace True even harder to comment after a ride on Zwift in bike shoes as am also doing a lot of! Oddly (or perhaps normally!) I only use one bike shoe at the moment although I did sell a few on eBay a few years ago.
@@TimGrose ahhh bike shoes. I have only ever had one shoes which date back from spin classes in 2012 and still only have those. Used them in my first Triathlon in August this year also :-)
Hey Eddbud-dy, what do you think of the durability compared to the endorphin speed/pros? From what I've gathers from the limited reviews so far, seems like both the rocket x and endorphins are the more versatile plated shoes for the everyday runner. Would you pick one over the other? Hey Song! I appreciate your kind comments. Our little baby is now 10 weeks old and he’s doing very well though it’s a stressful time with another major lockdown here. Thanks for asking of my family. I do feel this could be a shoe that people pick up as a economical option and less overly prominent feel of the plate. It’s good to remember that super cushioned shoes sometimes do more damage than good. This one is appropriately balance in that respect. Thanks for tuning in 👍🏼😊🏃🏻♂️

Edd does it have a high arch? I've given up on Hoka due to their high arches and narrow width. Looks like a great shoe but unsure it would work on my feet
I found it great on most distances. As long as the weird lace pressure issue didn’t rear it’s head. Less squashy than the rc. Less rigid than the Saucony.
@@TimGrose that would be my point Tim. Is it only good for up to a certain time before the feet start saying ****? I ran a marathon in Freedom ISO 1 and many would not consider that for a 5k, let alone a marathon. Horses for courses and Hoka seem to market it for short distances.
@@EDDBUD well I have a pair of both on the way, along with a pair of the fuel cell tc and the zoom fly 3. I’m basically looking for a trainer/competition shoe for up the HM. I think I’m leaning towards the rocket x.
