Initially I was going to buy Mafate speed 4. I thought it will be instant comfort just like when I bought Mach 5. But when I tried Mafate speed 4 I feel like I was wearing sandpaper especially at my heels, very uncomfortable rubbing. I hesitantly try Tecton X 2 because of the price but I immediately grew a smile on my face as I tried Tecton X 2. Instant comfort. Really worth the money😊

Thank you - reminds me of an even better EVO Mafate 2. I’m loving mine. The original Tecton X carried me 125 miles in a 200-miler with no blisters. Only changed out because my feet swelled a full size ;-)

Oh nice going! Yeah the Tecton X 2 has got some great speed and comfort! 👌🏼

Loved the review, I decided to pass v1 because I could hear the review about the upper but I am planning to upgrade for my ultra race from the Challenger atr 6 to the tecton x 2. How was the feeling in term of technical terrain when running uphill and downhill (as they appear to be really fast)?
@trailandkale
@trailandkale Год назад
Hi Ludovic! It was great on the technical downhills and climbs very well too! It’s an upgrade in performance over the Challenger ATR for sure - even though that’s a great hybrid trail runner in itself!

Quick question, and sort of stupid, but what are your thoughts about using the Tecton X 2 in a 100 miler like Leadville with less than a week of using it? I know I’d be breaking a fundamental rule of ultra running but I don’t think I’ll get the pair sooner to break them in… TIA

I’m quite new to the trail running… however there is a discounted Tecton 1 in the local store, so I’m wondering whether it’s the case to try it. Or I will break my ankles 😂

Loved the video, you got a new subscriber with the bell on too , can’t wait to get the X2 for sure , but tell me something it’s gonna be my first pair of hokas ever I got used to using Salomon that are usually hard the sole etc , would you say the fit of the speedgoat is not too far off the X2 ?
@trailandkale
@trailandkale Год назад
Thanks for the sub! 🤘🏼 my past experience with the speedboat is that it was tighter in the toebox - I need to get the new version of them (5) for review and will be able to give you a better answer there. I’ll do it soon! But the Tecton X 2 is very similar to most other Hoka shoes for sure including the Mafate Speed 4 and Challenger ATR 7

Great review. Is the Tecton X2 a nicer choice than Mafate Speed 4 even when the race is very long and slow with much elevation gain (steep hiking for extended sections). If stability, comfort and grip are the same, I guess the lower weight would still be an advantage, is that correct?
@trailandkale
@trailandkale 11 месяцев назад
Yes the lower weight will help over longer distances but if we’re to choose between those two and also the speedgoat 5, I’d go with the speedgoat
@manuelmariagallegosanchez6600

The X 2 is a great shoe but if you’re looking to get into the carbon plate trail shoe arena at a more affordable price, go with the X 1 I’d say. The Mafate Speed 4 is also a great choice

Sorry just re-read and noticed you said you've run in the X 1 - how did you get on with the upper in terms of breathability and fit? If you're looking for a more refined and breathable upper - try the new X 2

After the torrent 2 being replaced by the three, which I ended up, not liking.… kind of fell out of love with Hoka. The speedgoats as well as the mafate’s didn’t work with my running form/ body. Yeah, the drop was too low and or the cushioning too mushy. These though are the same drop as the torrent and maybe would be stiff enough due to the carbon plate. Might have to give them a go and see if they’ll work. Currently running in both Nnormal styles. Ordered Xodus Ultra so will see how it compares to Hokas I’ve tried so far.

@@trailandkale The Kjerag is absolutely an amazing shoe if you want to go fast and light over technical terrain. Not sure if I’d train in it, but for how minimal it is, that foam is something special. Sizing can be tricky, I had to go down one full size to get it right. Grip is super good, no issues there. Tried Tomir today in mixed, wet, snow conditions in CO, gripped wet rock like it wasn’t wet. Gotta get the lacing right tho and it’s a lot stiffer, which is taking some getting used to. You’d do well in the Kjerag, it gobbles up trail tech or not…..but tech is where is shines.
@tommilam6320
@tommilam6320 Год назад
@@trailandkale One thing to add, it is a bathtub design just like the hoka’s, so you actually sink into the shoe and have the foam somewhat cradle around the bottom part of your foot. So, from the outside of the shoe, the stack height looks more than what it actually is. Also, it comes with zero insole. I honestly thought that that would be a problem and a dealbreaker for me, but after about 20+ miles into the shoe, it hasn’t bugged me at all. The biggest thing I’m concerned with which I can’t really no until it gets hotter, is the breathability the upper as strong as it gets, but it already seems like a fairly warm shoe, So we’ll see.

Never a stupid question! They feel really great out the box so you’ll have that going for you - and they don’t need breaking in which is nice! The outsole isn’t the best for technical trails, which I imagine you may have a fair amount of on Leadville? Maybe I’m wrong there? What do you currently run in?
@robytosso9311
@robytosso9311 Месяц назад
@@trailandkale thank you so much for your kind and quick reply! Well, actually, Leadville doesn’t have that much of technical terrain, maybe Hope Pass is the most technical part but my plan is to run from start to mile 38 in the Tectons, then switch to Akasha 2 por Hope Pass, and then switch back to Tectons once I’m back from Hope Pass (mile 62) to finish. I’ve been running in all kinds of terrain with Mafate Speeds 3 but some how I’ve felt my feet a little beat

Oh in that case, I think you'll have a lot of fun with the Tecton x2 - it's a really well balanced trail shoe that's fast! Good luck with the race, it sounds epic! -Alastair
