I knew this was going to happen. Of course!! Oregon state and San Diego Chargers... really no surprise here. I don't blame him. I blame the GUY WHO HIRED HIM!!
I remember when Nebraska destroyed Minnesota 84-13 in 1983. What a fucking disgrace this game was. Cornhuskers hired a 62 year old college coach with a win pct. of 0.537 running a pro style offense and incapable of understanding the importance of defense. Black Shirts defense is dead. The game of football passed Riley by 15 years ago at Oregon State. Now you have to pay off Pelini's $3.1 million salary and Riley's $1.5 million salary. Riley has lost the team. The defensive secondary players are jogging to catch defenders. That's unacceptable. If Nebraska cannot get Scott Frost, then they should go for another Nebraskan, Bob Stitt from Montana. Stitt is innovative as hell on offense and is defense minded as well. But my hope is Nebraska brings back Power I option football again and bone crushing defense. Husker fans deserve it, and frankly the BIG10 doesn't need anymore of this pansy ass basketball-on-grass spread option crap. Bring back in some new Tommy Fraziers, Turner Gills, Tom Rathmans and Joe Mackovickas.
shas wards i thought about miles because Nebraska needs someone who's won a championship before but miles is super old and prob tired of coaching esp under pressure.
I can't wait for these next 2 games to be over and this guy and his entire staff to be gone.He really has taken us way down.We weren't even 4-8 under Bill Callahan. We'll start getting better when he's gone.
I lived in Nebraska for 10 years. The problem is you think the Cornhuskers are an NFL team. Its not Mike Riley. Its your team. You spent YEARS playing basically community college teams your first 4 games so you could start out 4-0 You barely travel and then pay teams to come in to your stadium and beat them. Well your finallly playing better college teams and finding your just not that good. The coach can only do so much. You still have to play. You could see today that no one wanted to play.
killgo- these people are still fans. To be a fan you don’t have to be a yes man and agree with every single aspect of the team. They want Mike Riley gone because it’s what’s best for the program. They are looking out for Nebraska football.
killgo- I’ve liked Nebraska football since I was little and I agree with most of these comments. The football program has gone to crap since he’s been here
"Impact migraine"? It's a concussion, because the offensive line is terrible, because the offensive line coach is terrible. It's embarrassing to have your players quit on you, especially at a program as proud as Nebraska's. How embarrassing for the university.
Please. NU is one of the few university if not the only with an athletic department that is self sufficient. Meaning we don't take grants, taxes etc... it's all funded by the people who supports the university. I honestly don't even know if there are other athletic departments like NU. So with that said can you blame us for wanting better?
Don't you want to know what do you expect when you fire two 9-3 coaches. This has been years in the making with all the coaching personnel being moved and replaced constantly. This isn't the coaches fault this is Lincoln's fault.
Please, Solich couldn't recruit and that was apparent once TO players was no longer with the team. His record slowly declined when his own recruit started playing. What was Pelini's record against ranked teams again? Yes 9-3 season is a lot better than what we have now, but under pelini we still got embarrassed in national tv, then coupled that with his sideline antics. Look we're not saying we're deserving a national championship every year, but pelini is 9-3 at best and it would've never gotten better. NU has too much money and resources to be this bad
I be shocked if another sell out at memorial stadium on black friday. Oh i forgot there sold out before the season. Still great support. Disappointed husker Riley needs to resign. Wait he wont get the pension if he retires.
I admit to have been a huge Nebraska fan back in the days but not anymore. The problem with Nebraska is that they're trying to recapture their former glory days by using a system that is seriously outdated. It's like someone using Windows 95 today. It was great back then but it's simply ineffective in this day and age. And yes, the coach issue. Seriously, is there any college football team in history that has routinely fired coaches with winning seasons? There is something SERIOUSLY wrong with this mentality. Why do they do it? Because everyone Nebraska fan says we can win a national championship every year. New coach? Yeah, were going to win a national championship this year! When we don't accomplish that, we fire and hire another coach. Yeah, now we're going to win a national championship. Rinse and repeat. So how do we recover? First of all, get rid of that old, stale, ineffective mindset from the 70's and 80's. Yeah, we were great then. No doubt. But we continue to rot away in an archaic program that has been shown to be highly ineffective. But we stick with it because it brought us success two generations ago. Everyone from the Devaney/Osborne era still lingering around? Get rid of them. This needs to be a clean wipe of everything that made us great in the past. Yes, let's remember those that made Nebraska great but that's all. Keep it as a memory, not as a means of duplicating what we did because it obviously isn't working. Nebraska needs a total rebuild, in mind, body and spirit. Many teams have incorporated these concepts to rebuild their teams. Remember the days when we would destroy teams like Baylor? Kansas State? And yes, Minnesota? Well, not anyone. Those teams have made great strides over the years and have good programs. Not perfect. Not national championship quality, but they found a way to get better without resorting to firing coaches every two years thinking that a national championship will come from it. I could go on and on here and forgive me for ranting but as much as I hate seeing Nebraska get humiliated like this, I hope, somehow, that the athletic department executives can sit back and see the whole picture. My guess is that Riley may be fired after this season. Or maybe not. All I know is that this entire football program needs a complete rebuild with the idea that success will not come overnight. Start with focusing on building a good cohesive and talented team on a whole new level. You'll win some, you'll lose some. But stick with it! And come to the understanding that we may not win a national championship for a long, long time. Yep, that's part of the process. Deal with it. Other teams have. Or you could fire Riley, hire another coach, and hope you'll win a national championship next year. Rinse and repeat.
