@@MichaelSmith-pg6gi indeed. I haven’t read the book but I read someone else online who had, and described Chgur lol. And anyway I think that’s part of what Chigurs character detests in these rural, sheltered Americans. He grew up in cartel territory and was exposed to the violence and struggle of the world from an early age. So he has a particular sort of disregard for these naive, trusting, chatty country folks
A deer will stand still and then jump in a random direction at the last second because that actually has the greatest chance of survival if a predator is trying to catch it. Ofc if this is used to avoid a car then this is less effective, and even less so if the car is moving faster than their natural predators (they may mistime it and not jump at all). Ultimately the deer has better survival instincts than this guy. But it's amazing how compliant people will be in a "mildly" stressful situation of being pulled over by a stranger who is talking like a cop. He's been conditioned to obey orders from a perceived authority figure and 99% of the time that'd work... Unless you have the misfortune of running into Anton Chigurh.
Dude the scene where Anton (the murderer) goes in that gas station in the middle of nowhere and is like “let’s make a bet” and the guys like “what are we bettin’?” And Anton’s like “everything , you’ve been putting up this bet your whole life you just didn’t know it….” Then flips the coin and the guy wins… Anton kinda lets a laugh out and congratulated him and leaves… such a great scene. Dude came so close to losing his life
Scene is GREAT!!! BUT.... if you've never seen Kevin James "Sound Guy" version... You should stop what you're doing and search it. Just put like "Kevin James No Country Sound Guy". You'll ROFL, guaranteed.
@@pastashack3517 thats the point. Had he walked up aggressive and was an ass the dude might have drove off. But he approached calm, cool, and collected and was very polite. Most people tend to freeze up and follow commands when confronted politely and confidently
@@manithierry-mieg7600 the joke went right over your head. In fact it launched into space over your head and then crash landed into the ocean behind you.
I was gonna say something smart about you being terrified but then I realized you said acting and then I realized he scared me very much so yeah I am to scared to think about it
Lesson 1. Never get out of the damn vehicle. It's never a good sign. Lesson 2. Being Respectful could get you killed. Trust no one. Lesson 3. Don't approach a man who is approaching you, holding a damn tank of compressed air & a bolt gun. He's not there to fill up your tires.
Tbf he literally says “What is that?” not knowing what it did If he did know he probably would have run. Though people also freeze, too. But also, it’s a movie 🤷
@@DeathnoteBB Movie, or not. You'd be surprised how many people pull off to the side of the road, in order to help someone else in need of assistance. People are mugged, hijacked, abducted & murdered daily by just pulling over. When you get out of your vehicle, you're leaving the safety & security of your vehicle & leaving yourself open & vulnerable. Just because it's a movie, doesn't mean that events such as this, don't, or won't occur. The only difference is the weapon of choice, in which they use to gain control of you, or your vehicle. Instead of a bolt gun, it might be gun, knife, or a finger in the jacket, made to give you the appearance of a gun. Nevertheless, in events such as this. The ending & outcome doesn't end good. That's why it's always best not to pull over & if you do, don't get out of the vehicle, nor allow them in.
This scene says a lot more than people give it credit for. The man’s compliant and you sense a mingled disgust for the individual; perhaps with the characters despair for humanity… the assassin’s use of a device that kills cattle to kill people acting like cattle so perfectly fits his view; and I don’t doubt a twisted joke there on his part either.
The problem with his reasoning (other than he is a literal textbook psychopath) is that he feels justified in executing people because they make the 'wrong' decisions, but he's deliberately hiding half the information. Even by his own rules, he cheats.
Once an expert on Satanists circles said: "The best protection for the offenders is the credulity of the population" (German public television 20 years ago)
Yeah, from a logical standpoint, this part makes no sense. If I saw him walking up looking like that with that air canister, that pedal would be through the floor.
@@cincin4515 that's when situational awareness is even more important. Guys not dressed like police officer and is carrying a tank with a hose containing an unknown element. I'd drive off
This was shot in a little road between Marfa and Ruidosa, Texas, I drove along it and stopped right where this legendary scene was shot. Amazing landscape, absolute loneliness.
This character is the most terrifying, scary & convincing psycho I have ever watched in any movie in all my 41yrs of life. The acting skills of this man are next level in my opinion. 👌🏼
the fact he is so calm, asks people to politely follow their order, call them sir. then he takes a culler and puts it to his head without a flinch before or after, it's eerie. Javier bardim did an amazing job portraying this complete psychopath.
Legendary compliance by the dude. It feels like he could have told him "I need you to jump off that cliff sir" and he would be like "well jeez I don't see why" and still do it.
Hmmm, situational awareness is all that is needed. I agree with appearing rude if you feel like your life is in danger, fuck their feelings. But as an Asian, I feel the need to at least oblige them cause why the hell not?
Well, yes, he’s the most accurate. But, you will very rarely find a psychopath like him. I personally, do my best to blend into society because people would see me as dangerous. I mask myself to get through life. Do I have the same emotional responses as this guy. Hmm, yes. But, I don’t go round asking people pick heads or tails. To everyone, I’m just another charming guy with a high intellect.
When I was watching the movie in this scene when he said, "I need you to step out of the car." I saw his facial expression and at that moment I knew this man was gonna win an Oscar for sure.
Hey I was in cabin 5e and well, this will be one heck of a ride. NCFOM is a fantastic movie. So much intrigue and yet so little conventional Hollywood bs. It is and will be a icon
When brolin gets away from him at one point and he's hiding behind car in the dark, your just like wtf where is he!? the tension and suspense throughout the movie
This is another reason why Anton is so terrifying in this movie: basically everyone Anton meets has no idea the kind of monster Anton is and what hes capable of. Most of them probably can't even comprehend the evil Anton commits on a daily basis. God knows what he would've done to the motel lady if there wasn't anither witness present he'd have to take care of too. These rural Americans are extremely trusting people, they're the kind of people to hand you back a 5 when their change is a 1, who'd wait around and make sure you got your lost wallet, who'd help someone whos car broke down on the side of the road. They respect authority and trust cops, because the cops are just like them out in the country, they probably know them on a personal basis. Anton is fully willing to exploit this kindness in the worst way possible. Only Moss, Carson and possibly Bell have any chance of surviving because they have dealt with evil, they have seen what horrible things people are capable of.
I'd argue that Anton IS uncanny valley. I've met people who try to debate that Anton is some kind of alien or supernatural being because he just doesn't look or behave like any normal person. Almost human, but not quite.
Not to mention the shit haircut makes the character even creepier. The lucky quarter scene shows perfectly how no matter how you perceive someone, you dont fuck around
I dont know why but this kill is one of the most disturbing things i have seen. I have seen fuxked up gore movies but seeing an unassuming basically waiting to be killed is scary
Chigurh was Death in human form! This poor unfortunate soul should have just driven away. Instead...we see what he does, and we see the horrific results!
Movie: No Country for Old Men Directed by: Coen Brothers Actor: Javier Bardem Excellent. Unmatched Original. Un-ratable. Just go watch it, then come back & read the spoilers.
Ky njeri nuk duhet të kishte lindur që u mor me njerëz të zakonshëm njerëz në të drejtën e tyre pëfitoi që doli i fituar .le të përballesh me mostrat e sojit të tij .🌹🌹
You know what that thing is, dont'cha? It's a device used to put down (Kill) Cattle, Pigs, Sheep, and such, so that they can be prepared for the Super Market
This actor portrayed the creepiest bad guy of all-time in my opinion. I mean he was scary for real it's not Jason who comes back alive nine times or Michael Myers or anything like that this is a real dude who's crazy and is good at his only job and that's finding the money thank God it's just a movie
Anton Chigurh would give Hannibal Lecter a run for his money. I'm really surprised McCarthy's most celebrated villain has not resurfaced in another story. Especially since the last time we saw Anton he was alive and well, except for a f@#ked up arm.
theres a theory that anton isnt even real since nearly every character he meets ends up dead (or assumed dead) soon after, possibly implying that anton mearly represents chaos in a physical form rather than an individual person
very true remark. well... Keng won't be the last badass in the MCU and just after Hopkins had his phase, we may send Bardem. After which the franchise will have lost any relevance. 😋
@@Bruelax11 Yeah… no. The film had many different themes, but the most prominent one is the inevitability of change and the struggle of the older generation to come to terms with it. Listen to his monologue at the end and take it within the context of the story.
@@dominikk6026 Sauron isn't even the best villain in LOTR. Shelob has more personality and presence than he does, and she's a fucking spider. Vader is pretty up there, to be fair. Not nearly as scary as this maniac though.
Who the hell would just let him put that to their head without any hesitation like wtf? My fight or flight instinct would kick in really quick and would fight for my life
It’s subtlety showing that the man is too afraid to do anything as to not comply to what Anton wanted. He subconsciously knew that the moment he stepped out of the car that the man was dangerous and that noncompliance would end painfully for him.
@@mavericktorr3324 right on the dime. People saying they would drive away say that just because they saw what happened next. It's a quiet terror and yet disbelief that anything remotely terrifying could happen that drove this unfortunate man to his death. He thought that it must've been something else in question. Once asked to hold still the man was locked in fear and was unable to object because he met the most incredibly evil person. Anton Chigurh is absolutely the most terrifying antagonist I've ever seen in any movie. The role was so brilliantly acted by Havier Bardem that it is basically the only pillar that makes this movie important. The rest is ok, but nothing special. Oh...and Jews went into their "shower bathrooms" compliantly without objection even though they felt the dread...normal people simply cannot shake off this lock. It would take a special person, used in fighting for their lives...usually no one gets passing this point "successfully"
This and that scene where he calmly walks into the pharmacy-as the car he just sabotaged explodes behind him to create a distraction-so he can grab the medication he needs are FREAKIN’ MESMERIZING with how calmly he portrays this character.
Javier was on a talk show after this movie was made. He said with his hair style for the movie, he'd walk into a grocers store and women would be terrified of him. LoL Javier is a pro actor.
@@PotatoeJoe69 as if that would hold me there once I got a look at that psycho grin, no uniform weird canister & certain malevolent waves coming off him. Screw the cop car, I'm off. Radio ahead if you must, at least there will be more legitimate cops there. The guy was a m0r0nic sheeple.
@@markbaker5599 look around brother. Most people are still this way today. Shit, we pay taxes and now down to a government that can lock us up or kill us for any number of arbitrary reasons. Times change, but people don’t.
@@gc8328 Excellent reference, and hard to argue. Bloom was significantly less mentally disturbed, however - He could pass for human, while this maniac has madness coming off him in a cloud.
