Today we tackle servicing my Holden VE CalaisV L98, and also show you how to reset the service reminder and engine oil life stats in the trip computer.
This video should be useful for anyone that has a:
Holden Commodore SS or HSV (GTS, Clubsport or Maloo) with an L98, LS2 or LS3 V8
Pontiac G8 GT or G8 GXP L98, LS2 or LS3 V8
Pontiac GTOL98, LS2 or LS3 V8
Chevy SS LS3 V8
It is a pretty straight forward job and one anyone can do at home with basic tools.
Thanks for watching!

Hi bro , the oil filter removal. Little trick I learnt , use a bread bag over the filter then unscrew , the oil stays in the bag and hands don’t get oiled. Had a gen one coyote over the steering rack ( pig of a thing ). Thanks for the vid will be using this reference for the Ute. Thankyou

G'day Chris - Oh wow! What a pain in the backside! If you have a jack handle you can sometimes use that as leverage, otherwise maybe give the plug and surrounds a spray with some penetrating fluid. Good tip on lubing the seal, but I was always told to fill the new filter as much as possible to avoid a "dry" start. Also after the oil change get in and hold the throttle right to the floor and turn the motor over a few times. With the throttle matted the engine won't start but it will circulate the oil throught the passages. Does it make a difference, I don't really know? but it's the way I was shown years ago. Good straight forward vid, cheers.
@MeatballGarage

Thanks for watching Graham! Interesting theory’s on oiling - when i start my XW Fairmont, i crank it a little before allowing it to fire so i can get oil pressure to the top end (as it sits for months on end without being started) For modern cars with computers and drive by wire, I don’t think you could manipulate the throttle like that so the engine cranks and doesn’t start, as the computer will adjust all parameters to allow the car to fire up, regardless of the throttle position. As for pre filling the filter, that is another interesting one! I never do it. Oil pick ups are usually in the sump, so will be pumped from there on first start up i would have thought. But, plenty of people say otherwise! Cheers mate!

Hey Chris! How did you go? These ramps absolutely help with lowered cars - some jacks dont like modern cars overhangs these days either!
@MeatballGarage
@MeatballGarage 3 года назад
Hey Damoboys - the car will be at a similar angle with these ramps if you change the oil on Jack Stands. There will always be some residual oil left in the pan I suppose - if you are concerned about it you could always put the rear of the car on stands as well so its level? Not sure how much would be left in there though. What do you reckon?

Thanks for the vids. I inherited my dads ve ss sports wagon a year ago and have slowly getting it back to perfect again. One problem that won’t go away, oil pressure sensor 🤬🤦🏽‍♀️ Have replaced it twice and the engine light and beeping is still on. Has been to 3 mechanics and it goes off once plugged into the reader. 5 mins down the road it’s back on. It’s doing my head in. Dad did have a problem with rats in his shed when he passed away and the car sat there for 6 months before I got it (hence having to fix a bit in the engine bay where the rats ate, ie wiper bottle neck 😳) any suggestions please. I’m in south east Melbourne and would love some help. So far I’ve done most of the work on it (dad raised a bit of a Tom boy 😜) except for the service as I wasn’t 100% sure and without dad making sure I did it correctly, I wasn’t willing to risk it but after watching this I’ll be doing the next one. Thanks heaps Mell 😜

Hey Mel! First up - well done for cracking in and getting your hands dirty trying to do a bit of problem solving on the car yourself! You will absolutely be able to conquer the service yourself - and your old man i am sure would have been super proud with how you are going about it!! Hmmm the oil pressure sensor. Knowing that there have been rats in the engine bay - yeah it could be a wiringing or earthing problem somewhere in the loom. I HATE wiring and have been putting off trying to find some earthing issues in my XW - which is way simpler than the VE - for ages now!! As far as somewhere to go in your neck of the woods - i would try Chevs (www.chevsautorepairs.com.au/). These guys had a great reputation on the old LS1 internet forums back in the day. They were a little too far for me but many people swore by them - they really know their LS motors inside and out and might be able to help pin point that oil pressure switch issue. Please check back in and let us know how you go!! I might have sold my calais but if you have any other gremlins or VE questions please yell out here and we will see if we can help! Cheers - Marc

Hmmm - Crazy chick 79 (see user in the comments) appears to be having the same issue! She has changed the switch a few times but still gets the warning. Suspect there might be some funny business happening in the wiring that might be triggering it/earthing out the sensor. Does your car show any signs of low oil pressure/lack of oil up top? E.G your drive train loud, noisy lifters etc? Cheers Des!

What do you know about code p0700 transmission code?
@MeatballGarage
@MeatballGarage 4 года назад
Hey Carmela - From what I can find that code is not specific to a single issue but an indication from the ECU that there is an issue with your Trans (if that makes sense). From a quick google there appears to be heaps of people that have experienced this code for various reasons. Sometimes that code is accompanied by another code specific to the issue and sometimes not - which makes things tricky. Have a read of this article here:(www.700r4transmissionhq.com/p0700-pontiac-g8/) depending on what symptoms you are experiencing whilst driving might help you diagnose the issue. Otherwise, id be seeking out a Trans shop to get them to take a look at it. What are you driving and how many KM or Miles does it have on it? Cheers - Marc

I use penrite 5w 30 which is what they say at penrite. What are your thoughts
@MeatballGarage
@MeatballGarage 3 года назад
Hey Damien! Good question mate! From memory Holden used 5w30 from factory in these things. I heard a lot of people, switch from that to 5-40 or 10-40. The theory behind it tends to be the higher viscosity will burn less oil between service intervals - especially if you are following the 15k interval, and if your car has a few miles on it. In my non professional/expert opinion - if you are changing the oil more often than not (i.e. every 12 months regardless of km - or every say 8k) 5w30 should be fine. Is your car standard? How many kms do you have on it? Hope this helps! Thanks for the comment! Cheers - Marc

@MeatballGarage 3 года назад
G'day Mike - the ESP fault could be one of a million things. For something like this where there are no obvious symptoms of things wrong with the car - id book in with someone with a scan tool that can read the fault code. Otherwise you can disconnect the battery for a little while and see if that clears the code - but this might only be a temporary fix. Is the car running ok otherwise? Cheers
