Watched this, and smiled the whole way through, even though selling my VL14 years ago still hurts. Wheel choice it needs a set of vx GTS 19's to match the the early 2000s theme. Still my favorite, red over silver Calais, best combo out there.
Same, had 4/88 model, same colour beige interior. Converted it to genuine turbo 5 speed. Hit a wallaby and wiped out the front. Fitted a Brock Group 3 front bumper/spoiler and colour coded the body. Polished the Calais rims. Bloody great car, wish I had kept it but it’s called buying a house…..
My mates VLT ran a 10.8 with similar power, people forget you don't need massive power when it's like 40% lighter than a modern Falcon/Commodore (FG/VF)
A great amount of nostalgia attached to this video, I personally went down the R31 Silhouette route instead of the VL route, a big hat's off to your cousin for such a clean example! 100% agree on the factory polished standard Calais rims over aftermarket rims, if only a company would reproduce slightly larger versions like they do with the early HDT Aeros and Irmschers...
As a owner of a VL calias turbo and a Vn SS I must say this is by far your best video. It's got nothing to do with me owning one I swear lol. Nothing beats a good dose in VL. 👌🏼 Lui is good at what he does I've had work done by him, knows his vl's. Watching this and seeing how exited you were to drive one made me smile. Have a happy new year look foward to see your vids in 2022. Cheers 👍🏼 👌🏼
Thx for sharing bro I miss my youth of late 90's the vl's were everywhere my brother had VB'S to VK'S and everyone had early commies with stereo's ahhh the sex spec era was awesome kits, wheels and all the bass
Love the red over silver. I’m not a Holden fan but I always like the VL Calais. I also agree on the 15 inch polished factory alloys as the look awesome. Love those RB engines too. Noice ride.
@@MindieJ each to there own but id rather the worked v8 over the turbo dose sound, anyway been following you a long time and your a legend i will probably see you down heathcote sometime in my vy, anyway best wishes for the new year!
Oh man the memories, great vid. I had a tuxedo black VL Calais Turbo (factory) and sold it when I was 21 (in 2001) for $11k. I cry myself to sleep every night wishing I didn't!
The wheels suit it with the red paint, I'd keep it like that. No need to go for the full stock look unless it's time to sell - just enjoy as-is with a period look.
My brother had a vl turbo manual formula when we were young but sadly wrote it off in an accident. It was white with the red berlina interior and a really nice car
Man I miss my Calais, I only sold it 3 years ago and regret it big time, it was a light blue series one factory turbo, made 400 rwkw tuned by JPC, in 2005 it ran 10.1 @137 mph at Calder with the factory 4 speed built by KEAS, it also came second in the street drags at Easternats many years ago, I rekon yourself and some subscribers may remember it, it was registered BYBYE. Watching this mad me sad 😢
Nice rig man, it's interesting you say that about the wheels. I have a blue lowered vl calais on polished calais wheels, but after seeing this beast, I'm tempted to run some 18/19s
Hay bro I was in your era on Sunday ther were cops 👮♀️ on Main Street evwere on mane street were the shopping centre is from mad max ps keep up the videos nice Vladimir 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍merry Christmas from mad max and a happy new year 🥳
Vl calais turbo is also my all time favourite, has to be the combination of the interior and that Nissan motor, I recently sold all my cars to get one, could only afford a vl berlina turbo but I must say it is still good but not vl calais good!
@@johnsnow5239 if you do the s15 lca front end upgrade you can put 5x114.3 studs on. youll need to replace the rear end too. r31s look so much better with low offset 15s though
Vl turbo hubcaps are 600 for set.. wish I bought one a long time ago.. still lucky my dad bought a 5 speed vl new in 87 that I'm going to boost this year 🤞 Best of luck with your vl turbo hunt mate
Love it had the same car and colour was not as clean. Paid $5,500 10 +years ago and sold it🙄. So now im kicking myself but didn't know what i was selling at the time
