3:53 Daniel you are by far the most thorough and comprehensive of all the Tattooists on RU-vid hands down. However, I am still looking for any information tips or anything on being a left-handed Tattooist. I have mostly always been told just to mirror what right-hander Tattooists do. I know that you will hopefully agree that it ain't that easy. Any thoughts or comments from you would be enormously appreciated 🤪😊

Thanks so much for the time and effort you put into making these videos. Just starting out on the machine and have been a little frustrated with getting my hold sorted and my lines have been wobbly and shaky. Turns out I wasn't cradling the cartridge low enough with my middle finger. Shifting that down lower toward the tip has not only straightened and cleaned up my lines MASSIVELY but also more of a help with depth control now too. So happy I came across this tip, has saved me more hours of frustration haha. Thanks man!

Thank you for the super thanks first and foremost! I am deeply grateful for you, your time and your support! You are appreciated. I am glad I was able to help you find a better holding style so you can produce cleaner results. I remember when I started I also struggled with creating clean, solid, consistent lines. I knew that I would not be able to proceed if I didn't learn that so I was testing various holding styles and methods high and low. This method also helped me tremendously along my way so I am glad it was also able to help you! Should you ever have any questions along your way please don't hesitate to drop a comment and I will do my best to assist you in the best possible direction. 🙏

Ive started holding mine this way after watching your video. Thanks a lot! It feels so much better, also the most comfortable way. It's the absolute best way to hold a tattoo machine (coil or pen) to be in more control of where the needle is going. So, definitely the smartest most effective way to hold and guide the tattoo machine better without all the shakes. Thanks again for the video, I appreciate it very much. 👍

@@DanielYuck Thank you) What about your wrist? You relax your hand or make it harder?
@DanielYuck
@DanielYuck 3 года назад
@@nuclearslayer5336 that’s a good question! So when I’m pulling long lines with little room for error I will naturally stiffen and or tense it up as I need to provide me with stability. But for the most part I never really tense up too hard or anything like that. The wrist to me should feel natural and not overworked upon tattooing, if I have to try to flex to do whatever I need to do I’m probably using a bad approach and or winging the tattoo. When I stipple shade I’m a bit more looser with how I use my wrist so I can achieve those gradients upon stippling.

Ah yessssssss. I'm working on machine hairstrokes for pmu and I love to have my middle finger on the needle cartridge, it just feels like I have more control that way and I don't see any other pmu videos of anyone else doing it lol. This makes me feel like I'm doing alright lol.
@DanielYuck
@DanielYuck 3 года назад
When I see pmu work being done I think it’s very interesting to watch. I like the up close pmu videos haha. I also have to agree with you on the control of the machine due to the finger placement. For me it didn’t take me that long to come across this method of holding my tattoo machine. I started with a coil machine and I didn’t or really can’t hold it like this because of weight and balance issues. I don’t mind using barred needles or cartridges but whatever the setup is has to allow me to use that middle finger for that stability and control.

This is awesome. I draw so the transition is something different. So when drawing intricate lines and small parts, do you move your wrist, arm or both?
@DanielYuck
@DanielYuck 3 года назад
Ohhh that’s another great question! So when I am doing designs that are dense with details , depending on the direction and flow of the lines and design would determine how I conduct myself. So some lines I’ll move my entire arm in unison with my wrist and some lines I will use my wrist to input the line. To determine which method I’m going to use is more of a natural thing that happens and is never really difficult to figure out which approach I need. In a nutshell longer lines will require me to move both my arm and wrist where shorter lines will require my wrist movements. If the space from A to B is able to be pulled with my wrist I’ll naturally know I won’t have to use my arm so I will plant my elbows and input that line.

Is their any tips for being left handed ?
@DanielYuck
@DanielYuck 3 года назад
Ohhh that’s a good one! I am right handed so off the bat I myself wouldn’t be able to give any helpful tips for tattooing with the left hand. I could be wrong but to me I think the techniques and applications would still be the same however what would change is the positioning in which we sit to tattoo, and possibly a few more variables of such. I still think that in theory overall most variables upon tattooing would still be the same, again just slight adjustments for comfort purposes etc. I am not left handed so it’s hard for me to say, but when thinking about the question this is what comes to mind. I apologize I couldn’t give you direct info in correspondence to your question.

@DanielYuck
@DanielYuck 2 года назад
Thank you for your feedback and support! I appreciate you. I think it will vary form person to person in terms of how they approach tattooing. I don't think it would be the same for everyone. I would say try to find a workflow and positioning that is comfortable for YOU, not so much what worked for someone else. I tried this and it worked amazing on fake skin. I did notice though that it was hard to keep the stencil intact. Any tips on how to preserve the stencil on skin. I always heard you should work from the bottom up butDo you also think I should be working from the bottom right Since I am Right handed

Hey ! I really liked your video. May i ask you very simple question as Product designer, as i am working on a project ? Does the inner diameter ( inner plastic roll ) of tattoo grip has any usage ( like we can put figure in it for better grip ) ? Or can we reduce it to make this tattoo grip space saving as it comes in pack of 6 or 24 etc. I would be very thankful if you reply according to your experience. TIA!

Good day sir! You touch the cartridge with your middle finger side or where the nails are (side of it)
@DanielYuck
@DanielYuck 3 года назад
Yea ill place my finger on the side of the needle cartridge which acts as a stabilizer for me. I don’t use my nails upon tattooing, I use the tip of my finger. This helps me pull clean and steady lines.

is it bad form to stabilize with my pinky out? I've never seen anyone else do it but i cant get comfortable with pinky and ring tucked like everyone does. it feel like my machine is too far and therefore too angled when i tuck

Hey ! great video it helps a lot actually, i've been trying to use this technique for some time now but for some reason i find myself getting a lot of ink on my middle finger as it's supporting the cartridge and it would make my finger slip a bit, any idea where this might come from or how to fix it ?
@DanielYuck
@DanielYuck 3 года назад
Thank you for your time, feedback and support first and foremost. I genuinely appreciate your support. I think I know exactly what you are talking about! I also experienced and will experience this from time to time. I think when this happens it’s because the needle is hanging out a bit too far causing the ink flow to run instead of flow is how I look at it. Now I could be wrong and this could be happening for a completely different reason but when I adjust the needle a couple clicks inwards the problems appears to correct itself. I’ve also thought about the idea that I may have took in too much ink for the cartridge so when the ink would begin to pool at the tip of the needle our finger could potentially be pulling the ink in that direction but me personally I’m leaning more towards the first one.

Wow so I had the cartridge whole facing up ( needles going in this direction _) but yours is sideways (going this direction |) across the skin. Ill try that way Also do lines with the shader come out more crisp then with the liner?
@DanielYuck
@DanielYuck 3 года назад
Thank you for your time and support! Me personally I feel it’s a matter of finding what is truly comfortable per individual. So one may like the way I hold my machine but it feels more comfortable if they did this to better meet their needs,is how I see it. In terms of crisp lines with round shaders versus round liners is that the round shaders are typically bolder over a round liner because of the space in between each needle and the diameters. So what that means is basically round liners and round shaders can both achieve nice crisp lines but it’s a matter of what we need. Do we need a bold line? Are we needing thinner lines ? Etc The design for me determines what configurations I will be using.

Does the ink cartridge rest on the corner of your finger tip and and nail? Or does it rest at the center on the side of your middle finger? When i rest it on the center side of the middle finger i find that i have to squeeze the machine to control and feel the pressure if i were to guide the needle with my middle finger - and i somewhat feel discomfort and pain which I'm not sure if i am doing right (though i like this method!) Please help!!
@DanielYuck
@DanielYuck 3 года назад
So the side of the needle cartridge sits on the side of my middle finger and I do not use my nail. The cart sits on the very point of my finger not on my nail. So depending on the line and design at hand is what would determine if I squeeze a bit harder, or if I let loose a bit and relax more. I would have to see a video of you pulling a line to give more insight as it’s hard to say. I apologize, I want to give you a good answer but sometimes it’s rather hard to do so. What I would recommend is to take what you want from the video , take what works for you, and leave what you don’t. Kind of tune your settings on your end to find a hold that is comfortable for you.

@DanielYuck

Thats a great question! There is no specific reason why my holding stance has changed. I would say it is something that I developed into over time from where I started. Nothing specific caused the change, more so what is better for my tattooing style.

Do you hold it the same way when shading? Apologies if u covered it in the video I didn’t hear if u did or nah
@DanielYuck
@DanielYuck 3 года назад
That’s a great question! When shading I do hold it the same way. I don’t think the manor in which I hold my machine changes. For lining till today I still hold it this way, for shading I still hold it this way, and for packing I do hold it this way. This question actually sparks an idea 💡 If you would bare with me I can make something happen to to better relay my points.

@DanielYuck
@DanielYuck 3 года назад
Ahhhh yea I know what you mean. If we are careful how we move upon applying the tattoo it’ll be rather easy to lose the stencil. What I do is I start from the bottom up most of the time and upon applying the tattoo I’ll get a dry wipe outz tattoo wipe and I will put it over the stencil I’m not going to be tattooing. The idea is instead of touching the stencil directly the napkin is a constant reminder not to touch everywhere and to focus on section by section to get the tattoo done. Having this approach is a great practice for me and raises awareness on where our hands should be upon applying the tattoo. Let me know if you have any questions, I can possibly make this into a video as well for you all.
