Genshin crowd if you're reading this, I've been listening to the Fontaine OST and absolutely loving it! I'll do my best to make a medley out of it
It's been a busy summer for me! Not much time for arranging or transcribing.
So, in the meantime, here's a lovely simpler track that I've somehow never heard before, even though I've been listening to the FF7 OST in general for so long! The main motif that appears in it gripped me instantly.
Technical update: Taking a break really puts the sound of the last few videos into perspective. It's kind of muffled? I've definitely been doing something wrong...
Since then I've finally figured out how to plug in all 4 mics in my possession, which I'm not really sure will improve anything at all, but since this is a rather niche upload I decided I'd keep the sound editing to the bare minimum and hope for the best. Do tell me if you have any sound-related thoughts, feedback would be very much appreciated!

you play this one so BEAUTIFULLY!!!!!! 😭😭😭😭❤❤❤❤❤ so moving and expressive ❤ also would love to know your mic situation--what are you using and where are they placed?? I've been using my condenser pair forever and I've been dying to upgrade forever because i just hate the quality of my recordings ugh

Thank you so much!! ❤️ Right now I’m using a pair of AKG C214 as my main mics and as room mics I’m using my leftover Shure sm57’s! Though I kept them too quiet here I think, I need to work out how to balance out the sound more haha! I find it so funny that you say you want to upgrade because I’ve been looking to your videos as examples of great sound haha, I think they sound fantastic! Though I’m guessing your Steinway does a lot of the lifting there, the bass is so powerful!

Caliko performance drops and I'm enchanted all over again. Can someone contact Square-Enix and get them to use this recording in the second part of the FF7 Remake series. My god! That took me back to being 10 years old and waiting eagerly at the game store to get my copy on release day.

you just took me back to being 5/10. 5 when I first watched my cousin Kevin play this game (first memory was seeing ramuh summon) then when I was 10, going on my own full fledged journey - must have been about 2002/3. you were able to capture the excitement and pure awe I felt that very first time. thank you for bringing me back to that special place.

I love the FF7 ost so much, I don’t know this one since I only played Remake so far (so excited for Rebirth!!!) but I definitely recognize that motif and it really warms my heart

This is a variation on the FF7 main theme, but not actually it. It first plays in the Mt. Corel region, on the way to North Corel, IIRC.

Sound quality is good! Very listenable, and it captures your melodic lines in a nice balanced way. A little bit more room sound could be nice, room permitting. I’m hearing mostly “close mic” sound in this recording. I’m no sound engineer though…Personally I cope with my Shure MV88+ stereo mic, adding a little fake reverb after the fact. You’re right, I just tried tweaking it a bit so there’s more room sound, and I think it does sound better! I just checked out your video too, wonderfully played!
